I'll buy either canon G5xii if i want pocketable solution or apsc with kit lens combo for a better quality and longer zoom range at much lower price. Though it has 1" sensor it's quadbayer means output will be 12mp and lenses are made by plastic which makes me wonder about the quality upon closer inspection compare to 1" P&S cameras. Why don't anyone pit the smartphone against them?

Nick Tegrataker, 25 Mar 2024Xiaomi and BBK continue to impress in the camera department... moreI shoot with the Leica Authentic mode too, and use their VIV & NAT filters. It makes for some very nice color reproduction.

"The 5x telephoto is a bit less excited about shooting in low-light."
The periscope camera actually is the smartphone camera with the largest effective lens diameter (7.76mm) on the market (Huawei P60 Pro has 6.93mm, S24 Ultra has 5.47mm). Theoretically, it should capture better photos from a galaxy than any other smartphone.

Yeahh I'm not buying the new "improved" look. If anything, the 13 Ultra's back looks more refined than the 14 Ultra. The slope made it more comfortable to hold.
I think the photography kit is quite nice though. If I wanted to get very serious with mobile photography (that one inch sensor legitimizes it), then I'd buy it.

The ones who buy flagship phones like the s24 ultra are the type who change phones every 2 years because they want the latest flagship and can afford them. They don't keep their phone for 7 years. It's a none issue.

Invetor, 26 Mar 2024GSMarena should do a zoom lens comparison test among flagsh... moreComputerbild made a 30x and 100x comparison of Xiaomi 14 Ultra, Pixel 8 Pro, S24 Ultra and Honor Magic6 Pro. The Pixel 8 Pro won, even though the Xiaomi 14 Ultra has a theoretical advantage due to diffraction. The Xiaomi 14 Ultra disappointed with a lot of fake detail (most reviewers don't check whether the details are actually true).
When I compared my Pixel 7 Pro with the Pixel 8 Pro, S23 Ultra and S24 Ultra in a store at 360mm (roughly 15x) + Night Sight and took a photo of a distant sign, the Pixel 7 Pro outperformed the S23 Ultra, it had about the same detail as the S24 Ultra, but looked more natural/had fewer artifacts and it also delivered about the same performance as the Pixel 8 Pro (I even checked the dng files, the 8 Pro actually had more artifacts in the dng files than the 7 Pro). But I know that not all Pixel 7 Pro units offer the same sharpness, not even the same OIS performance (which will influence the exposure time the camera app choses).
By the way, at 30x, the S23 Ultra produced more fake detail than the S24 Ultra.

veasna69, 25 Mar 2024I don't know where you've seen 850€. 1500 in Euro... more16/512GB was announced for 7000 yuans (€900). That is €600 difference.
This includes local taxes already, you cannot just add VAT to its retail price.
Funny how ppl here complain about prices of certain brands, but give free pass to xiaomi for charging more for phone that has lower final price.
Only BoM of 15 Pro Max 256GB is probably already higher than final cost of this one.
If this phone had factory price of €700, then retail in China for €1100-1200, then being 1500 in Europe would be fine.
It is not case here.

Good phone but I don't see why it'd be worth more than 1200 euros if the photography kit which is supposed to make it an actual camera and actually worth all that much, isn't included. Battery life is disappointing, display is just fine, the S22 Ultra got just as bright 2 years ago.
Cameras are great, fantastic even. But I think if you're going to take photos of people the Oppo is still the finer choice, Xiaomi's not the best at taking photos of people and portrait mode shots are "stylistic" on the Xiaomi as always. For object shots both these phones are pretty much equal to me with just processing differences that I'll just say are stylistic due to the excellent noise reduction and detail retrieval on both, only the exposure, contrast and color saturation are the differentiating factors here. Oh yeah and of course, the 50 MP is excellent on the Xiaomi, as always. BBK's ones always look upscaled for some reason. Variable aperture is cool but there's always the UW cam to take great shots with everything in focus considering both the 14 Ultra and the Find X7 Ultra have good UW cams. Oppo's one might be less sharp but Xiaomi's one just doesn't look right to me at night, Xiaomi's processing must be destroying the details or something and noise is hideously coarse. The Find X7 Ultra imo has the stronger UW cam due to that, all others seem matched to me at least.
But the Vivo X100 Pro makes a strong case for itself. It's got similar performance and throttling to other flagships, all cameras are great and just like the 14 Ultra, the UW cam is not top notch. If one can stomach the slight oversharpening they do, I feel like Vivo's just an awesome pick considering the higher brightness for the display, better battery life with just as fast if not faster charging and a far lower price.
Credit where credit is due, Xiaomi has had the best speaker tuning on their phones apart from gaming phones for a while now and this one is no exception. But apart from that, nothing too crazy, this year just felt a bit too muted apart from the X100 Pro and the Oneplus 12. Like the top end flagships are good but the jumps aren't that huge, the price tags sure are though and so yeah I'm not excited by stuff this year much. Xiaomi made a huge mistake by not having 5300 mah batteries on the global variant, they needed the extra 300 mahs to at least match the Oppo I think.
And finally, apart from Vivo, neither Oppo nor Xiaomi are able to properly do in-sensor crop of the 5x and 6x telephotos, the S24 Ultra reigns supreme at 10x still in video due to that. Idk why these guys spent so much to get such high quality sensors but aren't able to properly optimize the software for it. Like you have the hardware, just crop into the middle portion and you're good to go. These guys also have nicer processing so it's just a shame, really. Neither Oppo nor Xiaomi feel comfortable with their telephoto cameras' in sensor crops and I think that's a good move from them, they know they aren't gonna get the longer reach so they don't go for it. Slight nitpick yeah but still it's annoying that Samsung has the upper hand here when I'd say the game is supposed to be even. The UW cam is super disappointing on the Xiaomi but acceptable on the Vivo due to its lower price.

GSMarena should do a zoom lens comparison test among flagship phones (both at reasonable zoom ranges like 3x to 5x and long zoom ranges like 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x and 30x). Also, the test should be done at both day and night. Portrait mode should be tested too. Testing macro photos w/ the zoom cameras would be fun but unnecessary.
I wish all the camera phones from China and Japan get the chance to show their camera prowess in this test. GSMarena might want to wait for the Vivo X100S/X100 Pro+ w/ SD 8gen3, and the Nubia Z60 Ultra photographer edition.
