WOW. This is the first Huawei I've wanted to buy since the P30 Pro. The camera is such a leap ahead in terms of fast-moving subjects that it's worth the workarounds needed to run GMS (via Gbox or Microg) plus alternatives to GMS. Well done Huawei. You're back.

I like the design of the phone. I love the camera quality, and I love how the 10x zoom photos looks like, well done Huawei!

Anonymous, 06 May 2024I personally prefer faster lenses f/1.4 or faster for dark ... moreYeah, a bright prime lens can make some serious difference in a poorly lit concert indeed. I use a combination of a dark ultrawide zoom lens with a lot of ranges (+flash), and a bright mid-long range zoom lens, attached to two separate cameras for pretty much all the events, but mine is arguably more of a convenience-focused set-up and can't really get the same microcontrast or creamy bokeh that one would get from an 85mm F1.4 lens, for instance.
I often combine the flash with a long exposure - The subject would still remain frozen, but a feint blur and surrounding light trails tend to make the photos look more vibe-y which is exactly what I like to look for. Sometimes EOs don't allow photographers to use flash, so in such cases, like you say, I compensate for the lack of light by using a longer shutter speed, then use AI denoise to clean up noises.
I don't know much about videography but I hear that it's far more complicated than photography (e.g. Different base ISO depending on which gamma curve you shoot the footage with) and I have 100% respect towards anyone who pursues it.

Anonymous, 06 May 2024I don't understand what you're trying to say here... moreI carry a camera when I feel it's worth it for reasons to save good photos. It generally works great. It's not a huge 5 kilo professional sports camera, so i don't need to work out or eat da m an extra portion oatmealin the morning. Still it's infinitely better and more reliable than a phone camera, relying on software guessing what to manipulate.
I mean, it's not hard to get, if you think a bit, is it?

Nick Tegrataker, 06 May 2024Thanks, but I don't need your lecture about flash phot... moreI personally prefer faster lenses f/1.4 or faster for dark events, using flash can overcomplicate things and also with events you often have other interfering coloured lights, which leaves some of your best options to deliver the photos in black and white or spends some time with colour correction.
I like to use lights for product photography and video work where you follow the 180 degree rule.
Also if you don't need to freeze frame, in low light you simply slow your shutter speed on a tripod, which phones also have low light modes.

Say hi to China when reach the other side. Or, I guess, as you're obviously digging the opposite direction, say hi to Lady Liberty when you get there.

Again, feel free to keep shooting in films. "Processing bad, editing bad, AI bad" - you can keep wishing away forever and say real photography shouldn't involve digital processing or whatever. Go ahead and tell the concert shooters that they shouldn't use AI noise reduction because it's fake. None of this would be my problem🤷

As someone who still uses an older Huawei cameraphone (P30 pro and Mate 20pro) I think that Huwaei are one of the most talented and skilled innovators and engineers in terms of cameraphones.
However, when looking at some of the image samples that were presented here (2x zoom, main camera), it's pretty obvious that these are way oversharpened and have too much of artificial microcontrast - which is very atypical for Huawei image processing.
Waiting for the full review, let's see where this is going....

Anonymous, 05 May 2024So, to deflect from one failed lie, you spin off to another... more"Not faked post processing butchering what I've seen"
Any type of post image processing involves the thorough manipulation of original data, since digital cameras (except for those with Foveon or B&W sensors) can only capture colours in mosaic due to the use of CFAs, whose data needs to be interpolated to even produce RGB images that we see. Start shooting in films then feel free to grumble about "fake" processing lol.

Anonymous, 05 May 2024So, _if_ that false statement is true, why are brands like ... more"why are brands like Huawei sticking camera manufacturer stickers like Leica and Hasselblad on their phones"
Because putting big camera company names on their phones will sell their phones more? Ever heard of branding before? Like, did you seriously think Leica or Hasselblad have superior image processing know-how compared to camera manufacturer peers let alone smartphone manufacturers? I can't believe this is a discussion we're having in 2024 lmfao.
"Meanwhile, in the real world, the first thing any system camera buyer does with their new camera is disabling the image processing"
Your statement makes absolutely zero sense. I don't know what you exactly mean by "disabling the image processing" (Maybe referring to shooting in RAWs?) but a lot of people keep the JPEG settings as they are.
"You do not need image processing when your lens is bigger than an entire phone"
Tell me why Adobe added AI noise reduction to LR/PS a little more than a year ago. Tell me why DxO has been improving DeepPRIME denoiser for years. "You don't need image processing" yeah damn right lol.

Anonymous, 05 May 2024If you think _that_ is flash photography, then you should t... moreThanks, but I don't need your lecture about flash photography - I use it all the time when shooting for events in the dark on my mirrorless, and I know certain techniques such as using a bounce card or projecting the light against the ceiling help illuminate the subject more evenly.
However, the old Nokia phones with a built-in flash which we have been talking about couldn't do any of this because the flash was embedded in the frame and could only blast the light against the subject's face, therefore changing the look of the scene dramatically every time it's fired. If that's a style that you're looking for then that's fine, but it's a decidedly "dumber" approach to freeze the motion compared to what Pura 70 Ultra does - an approach which is simply unheard-of.

Anonymous, 05 May 2024If you think _that_ is flash photography, then you should t... moreIt depends on the look your going for, you can add light to balance the image to the background or you can overpower the ambient light or even the sun with a powerful enough light to create a dramatic effect, other lighting options can include silhouettes, shadows, light leaks, ambient, mood, practical, reflections - just to name a few, but yes photography is simply the capture of light.
