Motorola Razr 50 Ultra/razr+ (2024) review

Overall seems like a pretty decent phone, just seems really bizarre that you have to actually stick your case on for it to work properly, which I feel is probably the first time that's been a thing. Despite that, it is nice to see that it includes a full charger rather than just a cable, which being in sales with phones I see as a massive issue that they just don't include a plug anymore.

Oh my god those throttling on all those new Snapdragons are hilarious You literally getting Snapdragon 7xx series after few minutes...
And sorry but its not due to phone being foldable, Its just crappy chip and total lack of proper thermal conduction.
I recently had to replace back on Pixel 7 phone that is know for running extremely hot and after adding few thermal pads under and over board phone it stopped throttling that much, not just tinny blob of cheapest paste where chip is, but thermal pad over metal cover to despite heat over wide area. Now imagine if they just do that as standard... its literally thermal pad that costed me maybe 2$...

"if you're more into ultrawide shots, there's always the non-Ultra". Hellooo, panorama mode? Much better than a nearly useless 8mp ultrawide that many still use.

True its only been 6 years, not 7, so should I worry its gonna explode on New Years Eve or when exactly?

Funny, the battery lasts 2 days(1 if gaming), the 3.5mm Jack and the FM radio work flawless. The phone opens every app I tired (can play Genshin withouth problems), cellular signal did not diminish...i could go on and on

Where did you people get this idea that you should be changing phones like underware?
How often do you buy a new washmasine, fridge, auto, owen ..?

jnknkkj , 25 Jun 2024Does this finally support wired 'ready for' mode?... moreSamsung does have DP alt mode in the Flip 5, just not wired Dex (they use wireless which sucks), but Razr50U is still stuck with USB 2.0, so no DP alt support required (and still crappy file transfers (no point adding 8K support when it takes you a week to transfer files. Slightly faster charging speed doesn't makeup for that.
That and the lack of UWB (Flip series included) are just ridiculous for $1K+ flagship phones.

AnonD-1159808, 26 Jun 2024"Sad the still try to get away with 3 OS and 4 years o... moreRegardless of whether your phone last 7 years, better to have the option and not need it than vice versa, especially if you hand the phone down to other family members. I still have a fully functional Blackberry Style that still works as a great travel alarm.

Moto software support is still sub-par even if it isn't as bad as it once was.
The current Razr 40U is still on Android 13, while the Flip 5 got updated to 14 Last Year, and the Flip4 & Flip3 both got updated months ago, plus Ai update over a month ago.
Also security updates every 2 months instead of monthly is also not acceptable now as it once was. Probably the top complaint about the Razr line is the terrible software support as others get updates long before.

Doesn't matter if you wind up not needing it, if they can't match it, then they haven't changed.

              8S is fine for mid-range, but $1K US / 1200€ isn't mid-range.

As these two factors are going to decide throttling, it's either Qualcomm's good job or Motorola's, I don't care it's from which one, it's a win for customers at the end

For same money, not to mention it will get faster updates and the real high end chip."

Flip 6 you say? Well will the phone battery work for 7 years? Will the screen? Will a 7yr. old OS work on that phone? What about 7 yr. old apps? And how "high end" do you think todays chips will be in 7 years?

Think about all aspects of keeping ANY phone for 7 years. Are 7 years of updates feasible? At what point do we reach the "my-updates-are-for-more-years-than-yours" situation that offers no real value to the consumer? Marketing hype isn't of value to me. It's a waste of my money if I don't use it.

Lenovo/Motorola seems to have figured out how to make a nice folding phone externally. The internals haven't quite caught up but at least they're headed in the right direction. I'm looking forward to the next model. Competitors should be worried.
