Why is marketing AI described as a positive feature? It is simply there to blind people and increase the price

Anonymous, 11 hours agoRegarding my previous comment: I am pretty sure that some ... moreI also just looked at the 50 megapixel 5x sample images. They seem to contain more detail from objects than the 50 megapixel 10x sample images. I am talking about the photo of the clock, the exposure time is nearly identical. This proves that something is wrong here. Some 50 megapixel 10x, 30x sample images are just out of focus, but in other cases there seems to be an extreme amount of noise reduction (or maybe out of focus+ noise reduction).
I remember that when I tested the 9 Pro XL's 50 megapixel mode at 15x in a store, the level of detail could vary a lot from photo to photo, even when the exposure time was identical.

Anonymous, 11 hours agoRegarding my previous comment: I am pretty sure that some ... moreBut apart from the out of focus sample images, it's still shocking that 10x, 15x now seem to look so bad when analog binning is disabled (50 megapixel mode) due to extremely aggressive noise reduction (though many sample images seem to be out of focus). 8 Pro, 7 Pro don't have this issue. Though, when I tested the 9 Pro XL in a store, the 10x-30x jpgs were often better than the 12 megapixel mode, when I used the 50 megapixel mode.
It's also extremely strange because 2x still behaves like on the 7 Pro, 8 Pro: There is no binning in good light conditions at 2x, when you don't use the 50 megapixel mode. But there is always binning at 10x-30x, when you don't use the 50 megapixel mode.

a Dimensity 9xxx or at least 8xxx would have been a better choice than Tensor. I still don't understand Google policy about their SoC : it seems Pixel team is ruled by immature developers !

50% of power after 2 minutes... lets that sink in...

Open camera, 2min later, screen automatically get dimmed due to heat, 5min, it get to 20% brightness, 8min, ask you to stop recording...

I have pixel 8 and I have the same issues... I had that on pixel 7 too! how funny it is that 3 generations... no wait, as older phones had that too, so 5 generations of pixel phones throttle the device straigh to 2014! :D

Should I care about benchmarks? All I do is whatapps, stream, take photos and some gaming rarely though.

Simon, 11 hours agoI'd give 3 at most. I can't say much about the ... morei don’t know how to tell you this but not everyone care about how powerful a hardware is on a phone, there just want good photos for social media

It's worth mentioning that Google has clearly lost its touch when it comes to image processing after Marc Levoy left their imaging department.

On Pixel 5 Google changed the way images are stacked (instead of combining multiple underexposed images, it started to use exposure bracketing) which created far more obvious misaligned pixels as shown by awful random colour blotches in the stacked RAW files.

Pixel 6 and 7 series went way too aggressive with noise reduction in the post-processing, which caused photos to look excessively waxy.

Even the latest generation of Pixel still overprocesses details in low light, the stacked RAW still looks extremely inconsistent when it comes to noise pattern, and the main camera now suffers from what seems to be a hardware QC issue - the lens doesn't seem to have a good enough sharpness to fully resolve 50MP, as evidenced by the samples provided by GSMArena, as the centre of the frame looks noticeably blurry when viewed at 100% magnification.

It's funny how RAW files coming out of a GCAM port on my Galaxy S23 Ultra and Redmi Note 13 Pro look less noisy and are easier to edit in post. Google just can't seem to get it right for some reason.

                                    [deleted post]Yeah, except it doesn't.

Geekerwan's power curve chart really shows how far behind Tensor G3 (and presumably G4) is in terms of both CPU and GPU performance/efficiency. D9300+ CPU is more efficient than that of 8g3 under high load.
