DaFink, 02 Oct 2024Send a link to a consensus of the reviews 🤔……..really dude?... moreSorry if I've mislead you.
The facts are:
1. It's a feat that Apple has managed to score so well with this phone given the resolution, the refresh rate, and the 4.6 battery. This is excellent in itself.
2. It's a fact that Sony has a better battery life (in both scenarios: from one charge to another and in the long run!), as already proven.
3. Neither 1 VI nor 16 Pro Max charge fast. Most of the Chinese flagship phones today are in a different league. If you've witnessed a phone being charged in 10 minutes you know what I mean. But it doesn't actually matter: we too charge 6-8 hours every night. That's plenty of time for charging our phones too.
4. The review mentions no competition whatsoever because the review is biased in that respect. Mentioning only other iPhones is proof in itself.
5. Had you read my notes on the Xperia 1 VI page, you would have noticed an entire list of cons.
6. The storage. It cost me 110 euros a 1TB SDXC card. So my Sony Xperia now has 1.5 TB :). At a fraction of the price you get to pay for a 1TB iPhone. Imagine that. Smithravi's comment is very relevant for storage prices. Kudos.
7. The Xperia camera is in a different league and I believe the review is biased in this respect too. By the way, did you know that iPhone image sensors are Sony sensors?
But all these are irrelevant. I believe you must buy a new iPhone.

Yikes!Welcome to international prices (ridiculously overpriced by Apple, Samsung, Google and chinese phones). One must stay in US for cheap prices and taxes.
I will quote my own comment:
"Samsung (1590€ 1TB), Apple (1950€ 1TB), Sony (1400€ 256GB; can add 1TB SD card which costs again over 100€), Pixel (1690€ 1TB) or even Chinese smartphones (like Huawei costs almost 1500€ for 512GB and Oneplus 1200€).
Even laptops now a days costing around 2K with decent OLED screen and chip. Gone are the days 1000€ barrier, now companies became greed (inflations is smaller) and approaching 2000€ slowly"

And I didn’t say the battery life of the Xperia 1 VI was bad, if fact I don’t really know why we are discussing it at all here. Oh wait, it’s because you chimed in to mention how it scores higher on GSMarena’s battery test. Why, who knows, nobody was asking how they compared, the review itself doesn’t mention the Sony, and this isn’t a comparison article between the two.
No, ‘having written extensively’ over on the Xperia 1 VI page, seems you just weren’t done waffling on about how taken your are with it eh 🤷

If you want to see horror that a look at what xiaomi produces.
Apple and Google are the most subdued when it comes to processing. Remember: you can always add more but you can't take it back once it's baked in.

What if you forget to plug it in before going to bed or if you had to use the phone during the night?
I get up in the morning, plug my phone into the 67w charger and it is fully charged by the time I finished making breakfast.

Don't know man... 4.6 may be a little much. I still think S24 Ultra is a slightly better phone. And after an update beats the iPhone in battery life for 2 hours or so. It also has a better screen and camera.
I like the chip, but everything else is nothing special, comparing to the last years 15 Pro Max.
If it can't beat the S24 Ultra now... then the S25 Ultra will beat it easily (not on this page of course lol) if they implement everything Samsung said.

I was shocked by the picture quality, it's really terrible. Apple is clearly doing something with AI upscaling on every object edge. especially horizontal lines. Take a look at photo 9 with the 2 building and trees in front. Just look at the top line of the buildings and the tree protectors.
I also don't know why iPhone 16 got beef with leafs and grass? leafs in particular are just weird at 100%.
Not gonna comment on grain and noise

Having looked at these images on my computer screen they look awful. The pixel level detail is so bad it looks over sharpened and mushed

I believe there are engineers at Apple who measured how long a battery lasts for all different charging speeds, at all sorts of discharge/charge patterns, after being dropped, heated, frozen, dropped again, etc. They also probably look at every generation of phone they've made and summarize decades of user complaints. Why wouldn't they examine the data?
They then probably chose the speed that gets a high percentage of users to either the end of the two-year warranty mandated by the EU or to some arbitrary length that they decide their phones should last. They would of course have a decade of data on how much is spent on warranty replacements, handling customer support, supply chain costs of needing extra batteries in five or seven years, and even the potential of a class action if they pick the wrong percentage. (Just look at how much the butterfly keyboard cost them.)
You can also understand that Apple isn't going to announce/publish their findings. Why attract criticism from every armchair engineer plus give other phone makers a business advantage? They gathered their own data and made a decision. Other brands pick a faster charge rate, and those are often brands who haven't shown any evidence of long-term reliability.
(According to Galaxus, Apple as a brand has a 2.4% return rate. Sony, ZTE, and realme have double that number. OnePlus and Asus are yet worse. Honor has triple the return rate. Huawei is off the charts at nearly 15%. Defect within 24 months? Apple leads with less than 1%. Only Samsung gets close. All other brands have at least double Apple's percentage.)

Charge while you're asleep and then charging speed should never matter.
Of course, people will invent scenarios where their personal lack of discipline or planning or just plain bad luck require a faster charging battery rather than more capacity or slower battery drain. 🤦
Should we also switch our cars to use NASCAR fuel dump cans?

Been using my iPhone 16 Pro Max for almost a week (switched from Sony 1 II).
- Finally iOS feels like Android and in a good way.
- Camera quality is comparable to Samsung/Pixel and picture colours are better than both (reminds me of Sony)
- Capture button (My last Sony already had this) with Apple's innovative capacitive touch is good addition and been using it more often (didn't understand people complaining)
- Battery life sofar is good, definetely way better than my old phones. In my day to day, I can see that I get around at least 8 hours SOT but not like reviewers mentioning 11-13 hours. Good to see Sony 1 VI still held the top position (Sony does indeed have low ppi but it is indeed 1 year old now).
- Very surprised the size of phone is actually not that big but definitely feels wide compared to my old Sony 1 II
- I really wish Apple brings the AI to Europe, otherwise this is one expensive gadget and rip off (1TB costed me around 1950€)
- I can see myself using it for next 4-5 years. (I have used Sony 1 II for over 4 years)
