and Samsung could've done it earlier (seeing as they were one of the brands that kickstarted the foldable trend (if not the literal only one)), but they instead would like to miss opportunities just for money and AI. And the South Korean government, that too. If it weren't for the chaebols, Samsung would've continued to make phones that feel fresh and good to use.

The fact that Huawei can make this even when they don't have access to western tech..

With all the short comings, i still want one if i could afford it. It's damn beautiful and futuristic

That *doesn't* mean you can just say "Huawei is the only brand which can make tri-fold phones". That is fanboy cope.

Shamrock Sean, 13 Mar 2025Another one going on about fanboy crap 🙄That he is, I agree

You seem quite taken with it, I feel its an overly priced, overly compromised tech demo that in reality belongs either on a expo show floor in a glass box, or on a tech YouTubers channel in a video where they talk about having seen it in a glass box, on the show floor, at an expo 🤷‍♂️

I'm curious if EMUI OS could be installed on a CN device, if that's the case, there could be huge savings right off the top 🤔 This is mostly fantasy for me as my assumption was confirmed by Huawei sales support, that Canada is not covered under warranty, which seems pretty crummy. I don't understand why pdaplaza still lists global version as pre-sale and Chinese version is weeks for shipment, unless they procure to order?

One can buy a small car for that money...
But hey, I appreciate that Huawei is actually doing some impressive innovation, we are talking about world-class engineering and craftsmanship, so it's good to see what level of refinement and perfection has become available.
This is clearly a nice-product for CEOs and billionaires who can now show off their greatest and latesr "gadget" at the next meeting or party.
What we can hope, is that this technology will ultimately trickle down to less expensive products.

Samsung isn't close to making something like this.

Anonymous, 13 Mar 2025"imagine what they'd do with an 8 Elite tho!!!&qu... moreyeah but what i meant is the immensely more efficient process of the newer chipsets. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that the newer chips are more efficient.

Btw they were on par in CPU only, they were half a generation to 2 generations behind in GPU. Ofc, if Huawei perhaps partnered with Mediatek they'd have made chips as efficient as Apple by now i think but oh well, ig in another universe.

Anonymous, 13 Mar 2025"Actually, I can, for two reasons. First, in my opinio... moreum... what? this sounds like massive fanboy cope. Infinix just released a concept phone that tri-folds vertically, and why should Apple try to make a foldable when foldables still have so many faults they do not really "deserve" the iPhone brand? besides, who needs a tri-fold phone? even normal foldables (aside from the ones that "folds" like flip phones of yore) are quite hard to justify purchasing....
and Samsung literally could pull off the same tri-fold thing with more refinement (they literally kickstarted foldable phones after all), but their chaebols just like to stick their heads in the sand for more money and control over the South Korean government.
plus, have you seen the durability tests JerryRigEverything has done on the Huawei phone? the phone is just incredibly fragile....

Those 50MP full resolution images are of really high quality. Damn. Impressive.

Anonymous, 13 Mar 2025Can you suggest a way of unfolding into a larger display wi... moreI cannot, but then adding extra hinges just to achieve said result wouldn't be my suggestion to begin with. First I'd be asking what actual value there is to larger form factor foldables, beyond the current market standards. Second, how might that be achieved without just adding more second hinges and thus exasperating the compromises already present in the foldable category.

See, you don't seem to get it, just adding in extra hinges before solving for those compromises, isn't marvel level engineering. Show me a 'tri-fold that has a better quality, tougher display, equal or increased battery life and no creases, all at a cost that isn't double the current market standard, then we'll talk. Even if I'll still not be personally sure of the exact use case, I would at least consider that 'Marvel Engineering'.
