After all extra hinges will mean and even bigger and therefore less compromised tablet sizes 🤷‍♂️

Would you really pay a car's worth of money for a tablet with a mid range phones performance?

Yes, the larger tablet and not the "compromised" smaller tablet form factor. If anything is compromised, it's the 2 display tablet size.

Anonymous, 13 Mar 2025"Actually, I can, for two reasons. First, in my opinio... more'You simply can't accept that Huawei is the only phone maker with the capability of producing such a product.'

Actually, I think you are a little to inclined to believe that is the case, which would suggest a strong bias towards Huawei. let's try to leave Fanboyism out of this shall we?

What extra form factor? It can fold out to become a tablet, and then again to be a slightly bigger tablet. Doing so though comes at the expanse of an extra crease in the screen, reduced battery life, weaker overall durability and a vastly higher cost.

If that floats your boat dude, then by all means, go nuts 🤷‍♂️

The advancement is the extra form factor it can unfold into. Do you see any other phone manufacturer with a similar product? Samsung can't make a foldable with similar thinness and Apple can't make a foldable at all. You simply can't accept that Huawei is the only phone maker with the capability of producing such a product.

I agree its adopters will be those willing to pay the premium though, in fact that would seem rather obvious 🤷‍♂️

I agree it is more on the expensive side but I do not agree that it is compromised product. It works just as well as any other foldable or slab phone out today. As for durability, many reviewers have handled it and found it durable enough for normal use.

It's a cutting edge 1st gen product and it's adopters will be people who don't mind paying a substantial premium for it.

Anonymous, 13 Mar 2025You were claiming that it was bad in peforming as a tablet,... moreNo, they were not 'made up by me' they are my interpretations of the findings of the review.

Nothing to suggest it has durability problems? Dude this represents nothing but considerable compromises to durability go watch JerryRigEverything's video on it. It did not show a device capable of standing up every day use in the real world for any reasonable length of time (certainly not enough to justify a £3500 investment). And I would be vary wary of warranty limitations in such an....experimental product.

Look, bottom line is I hope anyone who actually busy one of these enjoys it. It's a hard pass from me though, not just based on the aforementioned limitations, compromises and cost but also, I keep drawing a blank on why another hinge is in anyway actually useful 🤷‍♂️

This is a device for the rich, you’d be insane to buy this at Gen 1 and expect it to last more than a year.
                      It’s a great prototype though.

All reviewers have praised the performance in the 3 different modes and the seemless switching between the 3.

There's nothing to suggest it has durability problems. Even then, it has a warranty and free display replacement. The performance is adequate even in tablet mode. Battery life is understandable when driving such a large display.

David 040882, 13 Mar 2025Everyone will agree that the Mate XT represents poor value ... moreI guess i just don't understand the need for an extra hinge, at any price. I don't see what need is being catered for. If having it fold twice is better than once, then won't folding three times be better than two, four better than three, and so on...

It's interesting from an engineering stand point, sure. But even at half the price or less I just do not see what is being accomplished by going down this route. How many times do people want their smartphones to fold 🤷‍♂️

It has poor battery life, multiple screen creases, and durability that likely mean this will have a limited life span at best. it's a compromised smartphone and tablet and more expensive than both.

DaFink, 13 Mar 2025I don't care whether anyone buys one of these or not. ... moreEveryone will agree that the Mate XT represents poor value as a consumer product. That's very clear. Frankly, $3500 for a phone is and will always be too much, regardless if it cooks for me and cleans around the house.

But arguably, even though it is readily available for the average consumer to buy, its price tag automatically restricts it to the not-so-average consumer, don't you think?

David 040882, 13 Mar 2025Fair, then let me reformulate. You wouldn't spend $350... moreI don't care whether anyone buys one of these or not. I'm offering my opinion that as a consumer product it represents poor value, that ok with you?

That's not the case at all. All reviewers have found the switch from the 3 modes to be seemless. Stop spreading nonsense. Yes, it's expense but that's the early adoption price for a cutting edge 1st gen product.

And if it is a bad choice or not, why do you care? Is that going to affect you in any way? No. If Huawei thinks that it was worth releasing, then it was. They're not going to make significant financial gains, at least outside of Europe, but they sure will get attention, which is what they are after.

David 040882, 13 Mar 2025And what exactly is the problem if it is being sold? Certai... moreMate you have no idea regarding my financial means, so knock of the silly insinuations.

Obviously it's Huawei's choice to sell this if they want to, I'm not suggesting they be prevented from doing so, I'm saying it is a bad choice.

Again, as a tech demo this has some merit. as a consumer product though, practically none.
