And also, this is a first-of, and the first product in something like this is always going to have downsides. That's why you never buy the first-gen product and wait for the second gen. Still, many people will ignore that and still buy it, which is the only justification for Huawei releasing this for anyone to buy.

It's a proper tablet form factor when fully unfolded. It can also be used as a foldable and slab phone. It's 3 devices in 1. It's unique and the 1st of its kind.

Cause whilst this may be a cool-ish tech demo. As a consumer product, all I'm seeing is a ton of unnecessary compromises for practically zero benefit at a massively increased price 🤷♂️

4-year-old processing performance is at the end of its lifecycle so, not futureproof. besides, this is a huge display to watch contents in SD resolution, not impressive at all. battery life is terrible considering the huge capacity on paper. GMS workarounds are not a premium experience. smartphones are made to make life easier, not more difficult. jerryrigeverything proved that one edge of the display is exposed to severe damage when folded and easily end up with dead pixels. nice prototype but, not a proper product.

This is impressive piece of technology, no doubt about it. Especially when you consider what limitations Huawei has with US ban on latest technology. Huawei is the proof that you can be innovative if you want, so I'm looking at Samsung and Apple doing basicly nothing with all of the resources they have. Shame on them!

They keep adding hinges and that this rate we'll be using these dam things to practice origmai in just a few short years.
Anyone want to take a crack at explaining what possible problem this thing is desperately trying to be a solution too?

But people glazed and supported the Z Fold5 and they called the original Z Fold a masterpiece. Yet they make fun of this phone's thickness. That's what irritates me the most tbh.

Not to mention the fact that the display is MASSIVE for such a relatively small battery. Samsung's Tab S9 is 11 inches and has a 8400 mah battery.
Finally, the Kirin chipset is also a little icky lol imagine what they'd do with an 8 Elite tho!!!

Over engineering device but it will lay the foundation for future devices.makers should start works to bring down the price of every foldable to below 1000$.

That profile shot of the display makes it look like an all-plastic display, the way it is warping everywhere. If I look at my Z Flip in that angle, the bits away from the crease are very uniform. If it is all-plastic, I have serious doubt that this phone has any longevity at all. Without the glass to keep it in place, it'll stretch and deform from basic use.

Tensor has it's fine share of issues, but overall it depends in what it is good or not (google has their focus on few things, but overall Tensor is less versatile than Exynos)
But oh boy didn't expect Kirin 9010 to sink even lower, explains the abysmal battery life when unfolded (it would be bad anyhow, but with a more efficient chip it wouldn't be that bad)
Durability of folding phones is a thing I have issues with, but at least the more classic ones like Galaxy Fold or Vivo one are more protected when folded, and have a regular outer screen.
The design here makes both impossible, that combined with the makes makes this a phone for "a niche of a niche of a niche".
I wonder if this concept will ever be popular, time will tell when other companies try it too.
