DaFink, 13 Mar 2025No, they were not 'made up by me' they are my int... moreYou can't ignore or downplay that it is an engineering marvel that only Huawei is capable of producing. I agree it is more on the expensive side but I do not agree that it is compromised product. It works just as well as any other foldable or slab phone out today. As for durability, many reviewers have handled it and found it durable enough for normal use.

It's a cutting edge 1st gen product and it's adopters will be people who don't mind paying a substantial premium for it.

Anonymous, 13 Mar 2025You were claiming that it was bad in peforming as a tablet,... moreNo, they were not 'made up by me' they are my interpretations of the findings of the review.

Nothing to suggest it has durability problems? Dude this represents nothing but considerable compromises to durability go watch JerryRigEverything's video on it. It did not show a device capable of standing up every day use in the real world for any reasonable length of time (certainly not enough to justify a £3500 investment). And I would be vary wary of warranty limitations in such an....experimental product.

Look, bottom line is I hope anyone who actually busy one of these enjoys it. It's a hard pass from me though, not just based on the aforementioned limitations, compromises and cost but also, I keep drawing a blank on why another hinge is in anyway actually useful 🤷‍♂️

This is a device for the rich, you’d be insane to buy this at Gen 1 and expect it to last more than a year.
      It’s a great prototype though.

All reviewers have praised the performance in the 3 different modes and the seemless switching between the 3.

There's nothing to suggest it has durability problems. Even then, it has a warranty and free display replacement. The performance is adequate even in tablet mode. Battery life is understandable when driving such a large display.

David 040882, 13 Mar 2025Everyone will agree that the Mate XT represents poor value ... moreI guess i just don't understand the need for an extra hinge, at any price. I don't see what need is being catered for. If having it fold twice is better than once, then won't folding three times be better than two, four better than three, and so on...

It's interesting from an engineering stand point, sure. But even at half the price or less I just do not see what is being accomplished by going down this route. How many times do people want their smartphones to fold 🤷‍♂️

Anonymous, 13 Mar 2025"And its apparently mediocre at all three." Th... moreBy spreading nonsense i assume you mean offering an opinion that differs from yours?

It has poor battery life, multiple screen creases, and durability that likely mean this will have a limited life span at best. it's a compromised smartphone and tablet and more expensive than both.

DaFink, 13 Mar 2025I don't care whether anyone buys one of these or not. ... moreEveryone will agree that the Mate XT represents poor value as a consumer product. That's very clear. Frankly, $3500 for a phone is and will always be too much, regardless if it cooks for me and cleans around the house.

But arguably, even though it is readily available for the average consumer to buy, its price tag automatically restricts it to the not-so-average consumer, don't you think?

David 040882, 13 Mar 2025Fair, then let me reformulate. You wouldn't spend $350... moreI don't care whether anyone buys one of these or not. I'm offering my opinion that as a consumer product it represents poor value, that ok with you?

That's not the case at all. All reviewers have found the switch from the 3 modes to be seemless. Stop spreading nonsense. Yes, it's expense but that's the early adoption price for a cutting edge 1st gen product.

And if it is a bad choice or not, why do you care? Is that going to affect you in any way? No. If Huawei thinks that it was worth releasing, then it was. They're not going to make significant financial gains, at least outside of Europe, but they sure will get attention, which is what they are after.

David 040882, 13 Mar 2025And what exactly is the problem if it is being sold? Certai... moreMate you have no idea regarding my financial means, so knock of the silly insinuations.

Obviously it's Huawei's choice to sell this if they want to, I'm not suggesting they be prevented from doing so, I'm saying it is a bad choice.

Again, as a tech demo this has some merit. as a consumer product though, practically none.

DaFink, 13 Mar 2025Then it should remain a tech demo only, something that gets... moreAnd what exactly is the problem if it is being sold? Certainly, you don't have the money to buy it, but there's people who do and simply just want to show off.

And also, this is a first-of, and the first product in something like this is always going to have downsides. That's why you never buy the first-gen product and wait for the second gen. Still, many people will ignore that and still buy it, which is the only justification for Huawei releasing this for anyone to buy.

It's a proper tablet form factor when fully unfolded. It can also be used as a foldable and slab phone. It's 3 devices in 1. It's unique and the 1st of its kind.

Cause whilst this may be a cool-ish tech demo. As a consumer product, all I'm seeing is a ton of unnecessary compromises for practically zero benefit at a massively increased price 🤷‍♂️

4-year-old processing performance is at the end of its lifecycle so, not futureproof. besides, this is a huge display to watch contents in SD resolution, not impressive at all. battery life is terrible considering the huge capacity on paper. GMS workarounds are not a premium experience. smartphones are made to make life easier, not more difficult. jerryrigeverything proved that one edge of the display is exposed to severe damage when folded and easily end up with dead pixels. nice prototype but, not a proper product.

This is impressive piece of technology, no doubt about it. Especially when you consider what limitations Huawei has with US ban on latest technology. Huawei is the proof that you can be innovative if you want, so I'm looking at Samsung and Apple doing basicly nothing with all of the resources they have. Shame on them!

But but but, it folds.....twice.....because 🤷‍♂️

They keep adding hinges and that this rate we'll be using these dam things to practice origmai in just a few short years.

Anyone want to take a crack at explaining what possible problem this thing is desperately trying to be a solution too?
