All of these shots have been run through Zoner Photo Studio 15 - none are straight out of the camera for some inexplicable reason, so I suspect that's why they look so mushy.

In terms of camera capabilities, which phones does vivo v40 or v50 compete with? How high would it rank on something like DXOMARK? Would it even be listed there?

jiyen235, 09 Apr 2025it aint coming back. Corporate greed knows no bounds and no... moreEU is forcing phone manufacturers to make batteries easily removable by 2027, they're literally one of the few government bodies that is fighting against anti-consumer practices

What other phones are you considering or find interesting in this price range though? The only phone on my radar currently is the A56, none of the available competitors offer as balanced of a package imo

Eric20, 10 Apr 2025I am talking about Bluetooth throughput due to interference... moreIt depends. But again. I want that max near CD quality. And then I can go lower (depending on circumstances) with aptx adaptive (aptx lossless is part of that). They took my jack. They should give me a proper bluetooth equivalent. I will never buy a phone without a jack, if aptx lossless or better is not there. It is a matter of principle to me.

Jab, 10 Apr 2025Aptx lossless can handle way more. Nearly a CD level. Wheth... moreI am talking about Bluetooth throughput due to interference from WiFi and other devices. Anything over 300 kbps seems tough in urban environments.
Below 300 kbps,
Opus@192kbps is the king. (Android support already available though TWS earbuds availability is sparse)
AAC@192kbps (2nd best after Opus. Even $10 Chinese TWS support AAC codec)

Eric20, 08 Apr 2025What is the point of lossless over Bluetooth? Getting 300kb... moreAptx lossless can handle way more. Nearly a CD level. Whether or not you can hear the difference... That is another issue. Still... If the take my jack, then I want CD quality over bluetooth.

Unless you live in a country where Samsung provides the worst quality models of their phones.

Asher45, 09 Apr 2025Updates or charge cycles killed the battery life? One seems... morebro these arent the first phones we used. the s8+ i had before was perfectly fine for 2 years and it was a more gradual and less obnoxious drop in battery life, to feel the same degradation of battery of these phones, the s10 a relative used had to use his phone for 3-4 years. Basically nearly doubly fast degradation.
I also didn't use any battery health tricks before but for my S22 Ultra and M31 I used the "Charge to 80%" feature and also let my battery drop down to only 20%. That's it. Don't talk to my about cycles lil bro.
Please stop coping or say you dont care too much about battery.

jiyen235, 09 Apr 2025a relative used a galaxy a50 and it was crippled in 2-3 yea... moreI have had similar experiences with Samsung. I wasn't even a power user. Currently im using realme 6 for 5 years and it's still decent. Before that I owned s7 edge, j5 prime, grand prime, samsung galaxy Tab 2. These were all great but they died fast. My dad's using m31 for 5 years as well but his phone's monster battery is now just a pussy cat, takes 3-4 hours to full charge and drains within 2 hours. My brother's s10+ died within a year. Now we are all using phones from different companies realme, Motorola, OnePlus. Anybody but samsung!

jiyen235, 09 Apr 2025a relative used a galaxy a50 and it was crippled in 2-3 yea... moreUpdates or charge cycles killed the battery life? One seems more likely than the other, especially if you're a power user.
I'm ready to switch. If anything lags its the camera. It was never great and is now beyond terrible.
I get excited about these new releases but am too cheap to spend a lot.

It is actually available in Egypt as it is also manufactured locally. Price is really bad though although lesser than 13R due to the fact that 13R price gets shafted by customs and taxes..

Asher45, 08 Apr 2025I'm on year 5 of using an a51 5g, it has not been crip... morea relative used a galaxy a50 and it was crippled in 2-3 years. I used a galaxy m31 for a year to a year and a half, im not really sure, but it was pretty dang bad.
Im using a galaxy s22 ultra rn and it was nuked with updates, specifically the s24 ultra one. It was subtle before but the s24 ultra one destroyed it. The same happened with a relative and his s23 ultra, it got slowly but surely nuked with updates and now he has to carry a power bank with him.
We're power users, we use our phones a lot. Normal battery would mean a 10-30% loss of battery life but it's been essentially halved or worse.

Crazy that this costs the same as the s25 in my country and v30 costs the same as well. Make it make sense

Anonymous, 08 Apr 2025Without SD card=no buy Even though this comes up a lot but I think this is an important comment. With Nintendo announcing that Micro SD card express can only be used for the Switch 2 we need phones to return to having Micro SD card express slots. They have faster transfer speeds and can increase storage for 4k and 8k content.
BRING BACK THE SD CARD SLOT!!!

jiyen235, 08 Apr 2025and you're gonna buy a new midranger a year or two lat... moreI'm on year 5 of using an a51 5g, it has not been crippled by updates, so I'm not sure what you are basing your claim on. Do you have a source?
