I think $300 usd is a more reasonable starting price. And will drop down to $180 in a year?
Just my guess.

If only it ha... morethere is no doubt you have a point mate. with these specs it's realy a challenge for SE to make it affordable, but how affordable is affordable? maybe less than 200$ you think?. if it only had xenon flash there's no doubt it will be on top of my list but nonetheless if it's less than 200$ it's realy worth it.

Hello guys. I am really getting this handset. If only it had Wi-Fi, then it will sure draw some serious competition against E51, i550w and N78 (but without counting the S60 OS, that is).
But then again, Wi-Fi is too much to ask in what they call as the "cheapest-Cybershot-ever" handset. So Wi-Fi should be excluded on your wish lists and make no mistake about that.
But actually, I doubt (and I mean real doubt) if this C510 will make its way to be on a price the same like the current price of the K770.
Just take a closer look at these specs:
1. 2.2 inch screen
2. Accelerometer
3. 3.15 Megapixel Autofocus Camera with LED flash
4. QVGA video recording at 30 frames per second
5. Face Detection, Smile Detection and Geo-tagging via cell triangulation
6. Tri band HSDPA.
Got my point?
Don't you think that those features are a bit high to be thrown to the midrange?? I mean, come on people! Even the expensive C905 also records at QVGA 30 FPS, has a 2.4 inches screen estate (which is just 0.2 inch smaller than the C510 which is what they call as affordable?). And another thing of note is that, even the C902 which by the way is expensive as of the moment, is only gifted with a 2 inches screen? (sounds strange isn't it?) Anyway, I know some of you are laughing at what my point is. But the fact that SE rarely load all of these in a so-called "affordable" handset led me into pondering all over.
So I'm hoping that SE will mark their word on their statement that this handset will be positioned as an affordable Cybershot. And please GSMArena, publish the price of this phone via your news section as soon as you gather info with regards to pricing of this handset. Because it seems like, I am getting paranoid on these features to be ever taken into consideration in an affordable handset.
Now don't get me wrong here. If ever it will be a midrange or an upper-midrange handset, I will still get this phone because of its feature load and I'm also hoping that the LED flash of this phone can also serve as a video light.

Gentleman Vegetables, 12 Jan 2009[Q]"cutting edge phones" is just another way of saying gimm... moreBecause majority of the market doesn't know the difference between optical zoom, and digital zoom. Ontop of that, any body who can take pictures knows of mega pixels, and therefore likes to brag about who's got the biggest mega pixels.
Its all about the gimmicks.

Gentleman Vegetables, 12 Jan 2009[Q]"cutting edge phones" is just another way of saying gimm... moreTechnically sony ericsson had already released a cyber-shot with 3x optical zoom. The only bad thing about it, is that it was released exclusively in Japan.
The thing why sony ericsson is having a hard time these days is because sony and ericsson are not cooperating well unlike in the days of k800i or T610i which are really innovative phones.

bummy, 12 Jan 2009"cutting edge phones" is just another way of saying gimmick... more[Q]"cutting edge phones" is just another way of saying gimmick phones. Thats the reason why HTC, Samsung and LG have been doing so well in the past year.[/Q]
Let's face it mate - sales figures are what really count in this industry. You either sell it or make way for someone else who'll sell something better at a cheaper rate. HTC has never done better in its LIFE than it did this past year while Samsung has been the only manufacturer to give Nokia a real run for its money. In case you weren't aware, there have been more top-selling Samsung units than Nokias in the highly competitive UK market.
[Q]But when it comes to quality build, and user experience, I can only recommend c905. But you can't really brag about that now can u?[/Q]
Are you saying that the C905 running a dumbed-down feature phone platform (A200) is better than a full blown S60v3FP2 phone like the Innov8? Mate you're out of your mind!
I'm a true blue SE fan (been using one since the days of the T68i) but when it comes to build quality, the Innov8 is better than the clunky slider of the C905. I'm not saying this myself. Go check one out yourself.
I think what everyone's trying to ask for is better optics and a bigger screen and not necessarily 12MP units since that's just overkill. I mean a C905 with a 2.6" screen and 3x optical zoom would be a common's man Bond phone. Nokia and Samsung have done it in the past, so why can't SE?

Thats the reason why HTC, Samsung and LG have been doing so well in the past year. Cause all 3 brands have been releasing way too many touch screen phones! Majority of them not even half decent...
Now, my original comment wasn't directed at the business side of their game.... And I don't know much about sales and what not.
I was simply replying to those people who keeps screaming "WHERE R THE 12 MP", when it is only the beginning of the 8mp market.
Innov8/Renoir vs c905.... Hah! Innov8 and Renoir simply have more numbers to brag about. That and a bigger monitor. All my co-workers are getting new phones, and they are truly clueless when it comes to phone techs. All they really care about is which phone will get them more phone numbers. Its all about impressing the ladies for them =/ But when it comes to quality build, and user experience, I can only recommend c905. But you can't really brag about that now can u?

bummy, 10 Jan 2009C905, and X1 has been released October of 2008. Its been al... moreAs if the current lot of dead zombies at SE are doing a great job. Mate trust me, any decent manager worth his salt could probably figure out the market better than those kids at SE. No wonder they are going down in profitability. They can't undercut compete with Nokia at every price point simply because they don't have the logistics and business plan that allows them to do so. Releasing cutting edge phones is the only way out.
If you're happy with the old C905 and X1, so be it. But there are countless others who would happily pay fork out the dough for the next big device. The Touch HD is outselling the Xperia here by a HUGE margin, same goes with the INNOV8 and Renoir vs C905.

We get it. Sony Ericsson makes the best feature phones, compare with Nokia S40 and you'll know what I mean.
Now we want to see a groundbreaking smartphone. Dear SE, you are the only one who can save us all from Apple world domination. ;-)

Great K800i-52 and W850i-1204 (which itself was a W810i slider)
i remember like years ago my friend and i used to compare K800i and N73, really SE what do you thing these phones are gonna do? the k800i has a Xenon Flash? the K800i is probably the cheapest cyber shot there is?
And if you want a Thin K800i you can buy K770....so what the heck is C510 gonna do?
i don wanna sound like a SE basher i still respect the K750i, K800i, K850i and the W810i... they truly were great phones but look:
-G902 and G702 noone even knows what they are. (Flop) (no more UIQ now)
all those Walkman sliders all just varriants of W850i with only the upgrade of Shake control
Now only on like the newest SE's have we seen GPS and Wifi come in, but the rest is just the same stuff from the past
MAN what the hell is SE doing?

[deleted post]dreaming, all you will agree with you is that N82 is the best 5-megapixel, then the rest, nokia not live up to Sony, K800/790 is more than N73, and music or talk, no phone Nokia ..
