06 March 2009
Convergence is the buzzword and the Cyber-shot Walkman affair-turned-marriage is busy producing offspring. And hey, the young Sony Ericsson W995 sure makes the first-born W902 look like a...

this is probably the pinnacle of cellular equipment, but I can't understand why SE does not include all of the frequencies GSM and UTMS so that one could use this phone anywhere in the world. That would be my dream phone!!

When will SE wake up and increase the Video recording spec? If this had VGA 30fps, it would be a beast! It's like a Ferrari with a 1.3l engine.

I have the latest hardware version of this phone and the kick-stand has been improved and is more solid. Remember, GSM arena, your review prototypes are not final hardware

Ok, yeah, video recording is nothing to brag about...but video playback is fine.
Not supporting DivX/XVid is a non-issue, since it would be kinda' silly to just put the video you downloaded for your telly on the phone without transcoding to the much more effective H.264 format.
It not supporting high end formats is simply not true: it supports H.264 baseline profile 1.3 (that you can pack in MPEG4, or maybe even 3GP container), which is excellent!
(main profile is a bit too much to ask for, to computationally intensive, but not really needed for QVGA resolution either).

Actually it make sense, why do you need to install all these codecs on your phone, when you can easily convert it?

I had such a hard to doing trial+error trying to convert videos to avis with free aps. SE optimized software will save loads of time and fustration

I love this phone. Sure it has some downsides but why do you really need dvix ro such if 99.8% of all torrented movies are avi and play dvd quality like anyway? The smartphone thing whatever i never liked such a thing and well this phone is almost touching perfection. I mean if the build quality xept the stand is excellent imagine how so it would be in the final product. And no i dont think that this will get ruined like the C905 as well i think they rushed it.

                                    N86 is much better choice.

Ok, I relly like this phone. First of all, it is so beautiful, I can not beleive that SE made something so adorable. As I have noticed, W995 lacks: Better video recording, codec support and smart UI. Compared to N86, it is much more pretty and fancy. I even think that SE camera (regular, not Ciber-shot) can be compared with Nokias. But of course, not video recordings. And it have all one could wish..And best of all, it is fluid, no bugging and lots of animations. There is enough applications to install if something is missing, so it doesnt need to be smart for that. For me, this is some piece of device. Sony ericsson made me in love, even though I have a girlfriend. Please respond, I am keen in buying this baby :D :D and sure it will be 20%-30% cheaper than N86.
