LG KM900 Arena review: A touch of class

24 April 2009
One of the most exciting handsets the season - the LG KM900 Arena - returns to our office and this time it is going to stay a bit longer. After getting off to a flying start in both sales and reviews the Arena certainly...

I dumped this phone after a month. Way too many bugs and not a word from LG about updates. As someone else already mentioned, youtube movies wont work, but there's plenty more thats simply not acceptable.

Mail is displayed as plain text, you can view it in html, but it uses some crap conversion to make a picture of it and view it in a picture viewer.

gps doesnt even work out of the box, for a lot of people. you just wont get a signal. it now turns out this could be due to a bad contact between pcb and the backplate, which is used as an antenna. by scratching the surface of that contact some people have managed to get their gps to work (search for it on mylgarena.com)

the os used is propietary, so forget about installing stuff other than java apps. i read somewhere LG is planning (or already working on) an apps store, but so far no word from LG.

and forget abot the hype about the cube thats in the interface, its useless. you can just as easy flip through the 4 screens swiping over the screen, that is, if you want to use the other screens at all.

because the contact screen and the media screen is nothing more than a favorits list. something like that might work for contacts (like on TF3D) but not for music or photos. the cube itself doesnt even display the real content of the 4 screens, its some static example of how your screen could look like.

in my opinion, with all these problems, LG should issue a recall. fix the gps, install a less bug infected firmware and make their customers happy

my advice: if you just use the phone for calling and texting, its fine. but if you want to use email, install apps, use the gps, get something else (iphone, windows phone)

Anonymous, 09 Jun 2009any STYLUS included? No stylus in the package. Screen is capacitive (thats good by the way) so if you are planning to buy a stylus make sure its conductive (check before you buy that it works on this kind of screen)

I got my LG Arena, still getting to grips with it; creating menu short cuts and fiddling with the ring tones and things but it’s the email that I find the most tricky to sort out. It can be a pain in the neck to set up, in my humble opinion, and always takes the longest of all the features in your phone to organise.

If you’re looking for some tips on how to sync up your email accounts on your KM900, check out http://www.LG-Arena.org They’ve got an all-encompassing, how-to on the subject.

You’ll be able to have your server and web based email trussed up in their relative accounts in no time.

                  Hello to you all.
I have this phone over two weeks and i'm very happy with it.
                  Al the features are amazing.
The only feature that is missing is real GPS voice-to-voice navigation instead of A-GPS.

But... i have a question, if someone can help me... i appreciate: what is the OS of the LG KM900 Arena?
                  It's Symbian?
What type of aplications can i download for it, for exemple, Mini Opera Browser?

                  Thanks to you all.

                    Peter R -
You can type with a qwerty keyboard... hold the phone in landscape.
Also you can search contacts by one letter... press the enter button and it filters.

                            Inaccuracies
Search on contacts is terrible! You have to type in full name to get contact, most phones search from 1st letter typed - totally useless and quicker flicking through contacts with touch screen!
Texting with qwerty keyboard - doesn't exist - maybe dropped from their review sample!

Id like to ask people who own Arena. According to review I can not watch videos on YouTube through WiFi. Can I watch them (still thru WiFi) if I go to mobile version of YouTube (m.youtube.com)?

Everyone seems to be under the influence of gsmarena.you will have to remain satisfied what lg gives u in retail package cos its not a smartphone and this is enough to put me off.as speaking about iphone it doesnt support multitasking.i think nokia n97 is the ultimate smartphone now.i have seen nokias latest resistive touchscreen.its bright responsive and above capacitive ones it offers multiple input types.if they include oled with resistive touch screen in their future phones it would be great.
