28 April 2009
Samsung S8300 UltraTOUCH, otherwise dubbed as the Tocco Ultra edition, joins in on the bandwagon of full touch handsets that occupy the whole upper range of the market quite successfully. Nothing...

Anonymous, 11 May 2009is the batteri really bad as some tests suggest??The phones battery isn't 'that' bad as some may suggest. I can get a decent use out of it and only charge it maybe twice a week - if I'm using it excessively. Taking into account, if people are constantly playing about with the camera, listening to music etc. Turning vibration and key tones off is a good way to save battery life. I find the battetry life to be fairly decent IMHO

No, you cannot change the screensaver on the phone, it's preset to the phones photo library. Most likely the GPS will not speak, it's not like 'nokia navigator' - not 100% sure as I haven't used this function.

Hope that answered some of your questions.

I have just got this phone yesturday, I Like it but I do have a few questions I would like to ask.
1st Is there a slide option that you can just close the slide and it would close all applications and cancel what ever your doing?
2nd Can I chance the screen saver to my own picture and does the file have to be BMP?
Last: Does any body know if the GPS speaks as well?
Other wise the phone is Great

Truth be told, I think the flaws in the otherwise classy S8300 are because Samsung have chosen the path of Android and Symbian, both OSs that can be updated. IE, the S8300 is a stop gap - and for now, probaby the nicest non smart phone out there - ideal for a night on the town with the ladeees - in particular with it's lovely keyboard backlighting and the stunning OMLED screen. ;) (We tested one for a week and the camera and video capture are stunning in good light - and even at night there is little noise.)

About the problems with the SDHC cards. I gave the S8300 the fastest sandisk 16GB I could find, and certainly did NOT see any of the odd behavior described in the test. Are you using some odd-ball slow no-name card in the test?

Everything on this phone is amazingly well thought out/great 'cept for...

Texting - I type nowhere as fast as my old SE K800. Having no nav cursor makes texting really poor IMO. Ionno how much would QWERTY help on this size screen.

Battery. Super-poor. I had 4/5 bars when I walked out of the flat this morning. Im already down to 2/5 bars 4.5 hrs later. No bluetooth, 15 min of calls, 20 minutes playing with the features, 5 texts, 5 minutes of speakerphone music, only weather widget using internet. I love the phone but my battery just sucks. I'm starting to wonder if battery is broken. I might have to bring mine back cuz I'm not sure I can live with < 1 day battery life.

Review says battery last 3 days, someone else said 2-3 days, how are you managing that. A day is all I get and that's just texting, emailing and then maybe 2-3 calls and a small bit of web browsing. Don't use bluetooth or any major applications.

bubbles, 28 Apr 2009no wifi??? nice phone but why no wifi?? ill stick with my... moreThe phone is good and is suprisingly quick for texting & making calls which is mainly what i would use it for. couple of things with it i don't like, such as there not being a cursor to move about and edit text quickly only way to do this is tap the screen (repeatedly!!) or delete back to that point and start again. the samsung pc suite is excellent and i was impressed how easy it was to transfer files of all types to your mobile from your pc & back.
would also be good if the radio tuner didn't require ear phones.
it also quite impossible to take pictures in bright light as you just cannot see the screen.
this said i am happy with the phone and will be keeping it on contract.

it's a really nice phone, but i think it really is slow when texting you can easily type so fast that the text comes after you wrote it really annoying and when looking in the gallery it struggels a lot , such a shame because other than that it's a killer phone, really hope that samsung comes with a firmware update to correct it, but it looks like samsung very seldom comes with updates!!

This phone with wifi, 3.5mm jack, xenon and symbian is my perfect phone. No doubt tho it's would be nearly impossible to fit a xenon flash in a phone this slim.

A 3.2in widescreen is imo the largest i'd go on a phone as I hate the feeling of a brick in my pocket.

No virtual qwerty keyboard but there is a full alphanumeric one on screen. So no big deal at all. It is not a smartphone.
And battery cover doesn't get scrached at all like the rest of the phone.

Have had this phone almost a week and love it! I'm more a texter and have found it fine but agree that the button in the middle would have been handier if used to navigate as it's a nusiance if you make a mistake in a text and want to amend.

Other than that I've found the battery life not too bad - I'm getting 2-3days on mine - remember to always switch your bluetooth off, as this drains the battery life on any mobile.
