Sony Ericsson Satio (Idou) preview: First look

5 June 2009
Sony Ericsson Satio (a.k.a. Idou) is perched at the top of the touchscreen food chain with an ominous grin. Currently rivaled only by the Samsung Omnia HD, the 12 megapixel predator readily bares its teeth...

This phone is the best for me but the internal memory is very small for these great features I think this phone will be slower than Omnia HD.

If SE expand the internal memory to 256 this phone will be the best.

Pictures are looking good, but of course they will be improved before the phone hits the market. Always wanted a camera phone that could replace my point and shoot...this is it! The Samsung looks like plastic trash compared to SE.

                i'm loving this phone!
It's got a look like no other in north american market.

I'm getting sick of that viewty look that every manufaturer (samsung LG) are re-using again and again and again.

This phone is looking great. Don't really care about 12MP camera (8 or 5MP is fine tbh as long as the camera itself it good). Disappointed no keypad, but the screen is really good.

Hopefully the battery and price will be reasonable.

And software noise reduction will make the pics cleaner, but also less detailed - you can't work magic here.

And about the scaling of the pics to fit the screen - this is a freaking 12 MP camera!!!!! Most monitors are 1.3 MP (1280x1024) and few reach more than 2 MP. If I'm going to look at the pics only scaled down, then the only thing I need is my 3.2 MP K800i! ;) I have a 10 MP P&S, and I'm planing on buying a DSLR soon, so I know how a good photo looks like (just browse the web for some sample shots of a Canon/Nikon DSLR or a Sigma Foveon ;)) and pixel for pixel my K800i makes better photos.

people who complain about image quality must be crazy, scale the image so that it fits your screen and it looks perfect for a phone (not sure about the colours, there is some difference with i8510, but I dont know which phone captured the true colours). as I recall the omnia hd's pictures were worse than i8510's.
on the other hand, SE takes forever to drop the phones, they should learn from Samsung.

and last thing, "The Omnia HD is supposed to hit the market as early as this month" its already out in the UK for some time

Nice work Sony, looks to be a good phone once the tweaks are all fixed. People should stop complaining about the noise on the photos, its only a beta version after all and will HOPEFULLY take great photos in the final retail version. Though I have to say I have the same feeling in my guts as I had around this time last year. I was quite excited waiting for the release of the C905, then Samsung released the Innov8 which I bought and am still using and very happy with. My friend bought the C905 and sent it straight back so I was happy I went with Samsung. I reakon Samsung will release a better allround 12mp cameraphone way before Sony get this released and sales for the Satio will be low. The Omnia HD is a competitor even at 8mp as it has the HD recording and is already on the market. LG will also probably have something released before the Satio. Sony have a great phone on the cards here but they need to get it on the shelves now as a lot of people wont bother waiting for it to be released if other companies are bringing out equal or better models months beforehand.

I like this phone, and the fact that it is resistive touchscreen appeals. If able to edit docs/spreadsheet with stylus will make a very desirable smartphone too. Hope the screen is bright enough for outdoor use.
