Tansen, 02 Jul 2009The 3GS is an amazing phone with with some pretty amazing s... moreas a former iPHONE 3G owner : iPHONE 3GS is missing
1) one handed operability (multitouch == 2 hands)
2) voice cancellation / adequate volume during voice communication
3) a shortcut icons that execute common tasks (ie bluetooth on)
4) more than one view into text message archive
5) better reception / voice quality
6) stereo speakers
7) ability to turn auto rotate off in image gallery
8) better (All new) PC connection software
it's a great toy. but marginal for voice and SMS communication:
can you hold your childs hand and call your spouse at a public event with the iPHONE? no, you can't send a SMS without both hands free either. It just doesn't work as a phone in a crowded place.

In the review you forgot to mention that the touch to focus also adjusts the light levels and white balance of the camera i.e. if you touch a dark area the photo will brighten up and if you touch a light area the photo will darken.
The hardware on this phone smashes the N97 into the ground, buries it and then while dances on the grave with "PERFECT" music reproduction and that doesn't mean through tiny little phone speakers but when plugged into the thousands of things with iPhone docks.
Now having exactly the same shape means cost and environmental savings as manufacturers do not have to design and make new accessories and parts, but do people recognize that?
No they are too busy whining.
There are photo's of ONE iPhone that is discoloured but that is enough to start an Internet storm as this ONE report is picked up and spread.
iPhone's have not been recalled there are stock issues as the demand for it is so high, they sold over ONE MILLION in three days and it was only released in eight countries, Nokia was crowing about the 5800 reaching this milestone after over a month.

Anonymous, 01 Jul 2009First of all - Thank you for the review GSMArena! Good job... moremeet my fren m3gi, the guy who work as 'repairer' in 'nokia service center' who actually has 1st hand experience that all or 100% of broken phones are Nokias.
OMG!! How could all 100% of broken phones get seen by him? Nokia must be wrong somewhere so much of crap phones!
Yeah, im also shocked why some eye doctors only see 100% eye cases everyday.

I am soooo tempted to upgrade my iphone 3g to the 3gs. But I think it would be better to just wait for the next iphone. 3.0 OS made a difference on my iphone 3g anyway that it seemed like I got a new phone. Nevertheless, new iphone users would love the 3gs. I know, because I already have a couple of friends who bought their first iphone, and they're just loving it.

The 3GS is an amazing phone with with some pretty amazing specs. Aside from the camera, what is really lacking? The review mentions plenty of things that the Iphone does and doesn't have. While the criticism of the camera may not be as harsh as the one on the N97, the review seems to be relatively unbiased. It is an objective review of a phone that is similar to one that has been released in the past, and the review itself mentions that many times. If you had never seen any other review on this site, you'd have no problem with this.

I still can't believe that Apple Fans can't see that buying the 3GS is basically buying a $200 firmware update.

Flames, 01 Jul 2009GSmarena's hypocricy and double standards stink to high hea... moreYou have beef with gsmarena?? Nokia is not what they used to be, believe it. They used to be the best of the best with the N95 but with newer phones coming out, they are getting outdated, N96 then N97, both outdated as far as other phones are concerned. I don't see gsmarena as being biased.

David, 01 Jul 2009Yeah, i heard about that. They had the same ban in soem oth... moreJust Google it. One of the results I've found:
"WHILE APPLE FANBOYS struggle with the reality that the fruit themed toymaker's latest Iphone 3GS sometimes gets hot enough to discolour the plastic, Wired thinks that the problem might be due to the battery.
Wired said that there have been only a few complaints, but Aaron Vronko of Rapid Repair, which performs teardowns of Iphones and Ipods, said overheating is likely an issue due to faulty battery cells.
He is predicting that the overheating issue could result in massive recalls of Iphone 3GS units, since the dodgy batteries are from very large production runs and this could mean that thousands, tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of Apple's latest technogeek fetish devices might turn out to be faulty.
Part of the problem is that Apple had planned for a nice little revenue stream by refusing to let punters replace their own Iphone batteries, hardwiring the things so that you have to take the unit in to the Apple store for battery replacement.
So, if the Iphone 3GS battery goes wrong like this, Apple will have to recall and replace the whole unit.
Apple PR is not saying anything at the moment, as we would expect it to do at this point. What it will be doing is hoping that not enough people experience any battery problems, so the issue can be safely dealt with without having to make any public announcement or recall.
Back in 2006, Apple had to recall its Ibook and PowerBook G4 notebooks because battery cells provided by Sony were causing some batteries to explode.
And in August 2008, Apple issued a recall for defective Ipod Nanos, which had caused three fires in Japan.
Meanwhile Apple fanboys have been rushing to share with the world their technical expertise on the white French phone discolouration. Their expert opinions have been that it must have been left out in the sun too long because they claimed there is nothing inside the Iphone that would leave that shape.
However, Vronko told Wired that the pictures of discoloured white Iphones he has seen reveal the outlines of the battery, something we would think an 'engineer' would know. So we can't help but think that Apple fanboy 'engineers' defending Jobs' Mob on websites are probably kids who own a Gameboy and think they are technology wizards. µ"
I see some lawsuits incoming...

GSmarena's hypocricy and double standards stink to high heaven. They couldn't even bring themselves to openly criticise the 3.2mp iphone camera which i'm afraid is also so backward you can't even compare it to the N97's camera.
Nothing shocking as Gsmarena has beef with Nokia......

Anonymous, 01 Jul 2009The SE Aino runs on symbian don't it? The same "buggy" soft... moreN97 is having problems cause Symbian is not yet properly tuned for a touch OS, probaly next generation will be really good. But the E71 is running on a non touch Symbian, that's why it's so stable and runs like clockwork. 7/10 employees at the our retail chain uses E71 and evertone is very happy with the phone. I have had no glithes or faults in year now since i got it.
The N97 though need to back to the factory, cause it's obvioulsy not a finished product.
I used to have a iPhone 2G 8 Gb, the phone alright except the much talked about missing essentials. I really enjoyed the music audio quality and the simple menus, even the option while talking on the phone. But i realized that i absolutley despise and became allergic i iTunes. That software gave me headache and frustration beyond belief, and is probably the only software in the world i could strangle to Dea**.
Other than that, i realized how the third party software in the Appstore became worse, after a awhile you couldn'r get one decent app, they all became apps made by 9 year old, for 9 year olds with fancy names and description but did nothing for the phone and harldy worked at all. So when the Appstore lost control i let the iPhone go.
I might get an iPhone in 2012-2013 when Apple have finished milking their loyal fan base and concentrate on real innovation and uppgrades, til then i not falling for this, im sorry.
My next phone will be the E72, cause right now i can't think of a reason not to get the spawn of E71.

Anonymous, 01 Jul 2009First of all - Thank you for the review GSMArena! Good job... moreoh hey m3gi no time no see, you said if you dont like Fiat you would not enter in a fiat store and tell people not to buy it well this has nothing to do with buying or not. these are people's opinions to criticize or favor a product just like you do in nokia threads, i have seen you talk crap about nokia and then you come and tell us not to bash the iphone ? very hypocrite of you.
