Samsung I8000 Omnia II review: A surprising experience

28 August 2009
Samsung's top tier of Omnia devices is populated by some seriously heavy-hitters - first the 720p video recording Omnia HD and now the Omnia II - with its best-in-the-business display, WM 6.5...

I've tested Omnia II hours ago. Kudos on the looks & its WinMo OS, but the on-screen keypad (even on landscape mode) was not really tactile & responsive. Not sure whether thats due to my large thumb(s), prompting numerous typo errors. That's not the case with Samsung Jet, though. Anyway, just sharing my (brief) experience.

Anonymous, 01 Sep 2009For anybody who has the phone, can you confirm how youtube ... moreI dont have any issue with Youtube, the Opera browser on the phone plays the Video directly into the browser same as on a PC and we can put videos fullscreen as on PC which is better. The browser becomes a lil bit slow but i think its all because of the internet Bandwidth u r connected to (i played it on WIFI throught 512K ADSL)

For anybody who has the phone, can you confirm how youtube plays on your phone?
In GSMArena's review, they had stated "some of the videos were lagging and the whole behavior of the browser became slightly unstable".
Not too sure if maybe it was just their paticular unit or maybe it's fixable via new firmware or anything?
Looking to get this phone but this may be a dealbreaker for me..

                Thanks!

[deleted post]Yeah u rite, 720p=1280x720 and D1=720*480.. Omnia II records Videos in D1 @ 30fps. For info D1 is DVD quality!! Omnia HD records at 720p which is even better. GSMARENA mentionned it cuz no other WinMO mobiles are capable of recording at D1 (30fps), nor HTCs, etc.

I really quite like this phone! But I don't understand all this fuss about D1 / 720p video recording.

My SHARP T923 records at 864x480px at REALLY decent quality (2.00Mbps)... why is this such big news on the omnias?!

I luv it... N for GSMARENA - i confirm that i got TV out even if the cable is not included in the package... N the mobile says that it got a 800mhz CPU!!! Its really responsive if we dont overload the 3 homescreen wiz some useless widgets.. we just have to put only the widget we need!!! N best of all watching DiVX on it is AWESOME, the screen is wow... i dont think N900 would be better with its bigger screen, AMOLED IS FAR BETTER.. For those geeks who r still making their minds, well i say got 4 it... Its the best Phone rite Now..

Allow me to help clear some things up.

The Omnia II was at first rumored to have a 667MHz CPU. It turns out that it actually has an 800MHz CPU.

It looks like that the "L" version is a speculated variant of the i8000 that would land on AT&T in the US. As of now, it looks like AT&T won't be getting the Omnia II, so you can pretty much ignore that. I've contacted the webmaster of PDAdb.net about it.

for an 800 MHz CPU it seems a bit slow dont u think :S and the touch doesnt seem 2 responsive or the guy who was using it in the video wasnt pressing well or something. dont get me wrong i like omnia (never owned 1, i am a Nokia fan, but i like the Omnia) and the features are ecxcellent on the omnia 2.

the omnia family made another fanboy jealous...samsung gives the best symbian s60v3 till now (i8510 innov8), best symbian s60v5 (i8910 omniahd), and best windows mobile 6.1 the 6.5 (i900 then i8000 omnia II)..no one can match the samsung accleration in mobile...ckoser n closer to nokia..leaves SonyEricsson and moto behind (technology and sales number!!) when xperia x2 come out..it will be outdated winmo devices....n97 is nothing compared to omnia hd,,n96/w995/c905/n86 is nothing compared to innov8,, go samsung!!!
dont forget samsung jet and best seller samsung star

I think gsm arena is one of most comprehensive and accurate cellphone review site. But it will be perfect if they also review the cellphone on video just like other site.

well i think that the information abour the cpu is not a problem..what i dont like is:why does gsmarena make such average reviews about samsung phones?back in the day where innov8 was the best phone on the market the review was short and superficial!whining about the hd video recording of the Omnia HD doesnt seem cool either, cause the phone is years ahead in that department from other phones.where are the reviews of many samsung phones?? the home page is full of nokia reviews,im seriously wondering if they are gonna review every xpressmusic phone out there!..come on gsmarena, give credit to the best phones on the market,no nokia can match Omnia HD or Omnia 2.

And of course it is the Windows Mobile. It's wrong to think that for the Omnia II review they somehow forgot this. They just decided to spare you the same words, which are written over and over again.

And at the end whatever is the source of the 65K limitation - it is a LIMITATION. I just don't understand what's the real problem here.
