"The general image quality is also excellent, although we have to admit that the amount of fine detail captured was slightly lower than that of the Pixon12, or at least in our pre-release unit. All the other components were already nicely tuned with the photos having low noise levels, good contrast and pleasant colors. There are no visible image defects like over-sharpening or compression artifacts either."

The first sentence's just lame, the image quality sucks with this phone, you can't say a camera can have excellent image quality just because it has no comparison on its class. either those guys are blind or they have been putting the "its because its a camphone not a digital camera" argument on the table. Theres no way it can even compare to a cheap camera with that quality. Optical Zoom on mobile phone is just useless anyway and will always be useless unless we see some groundbreaking improvements over the sensor and lens architecture.

The phone looks great. I just wonder, how fast the camera starts.. compared to the 5800 i.e. What i mean is that, when you buy such a device you want your music, phone, camera and everything in one device in your pocket. I like this concept, but here is the thing .. i'm walking on the street listening to some music and i see something really nice that i want to take a picture of. Let's say a rare car that passes by me. The time it takes me to take my phone out of the pocket is fast enough to take the picture, but the time it takes the phone to start the application and auto focus and make the picture i too slow, and the car is gone... so can gsmarena make some kind of comparison of start times with other.. normal cameraphones ?

Is there any info on cpu speed or ram of the device. I see that it's not a smartphone, but still.

P.S. How do you always have sunny whether in Borovo ;)

In August, GSM reported a mobile phone with 12MP CCD and 3X optical zoom lens (http://www.gsmarena.com/altek_t8680_mobile_phone_doubles_as_a_12mp_camera_with_3x_zoom_-news-1049.php). And now, the Samsung monster comes up. Could GSMArena make product comparison between these 2 phones?

Real technical testing can be...well too technical with #.
People will just judge on the image quality they see from taken pictures for their own judgement.

The "pretty" flower is one of the best example IMO to see how well a camera can capture the colors in a photo.

Night shots will definitely require excellent lighting. This ain't no Hollywood show (maybe Saturday Night Live for ya)!

                      Wow, awesome :)

those pictures of the dead leaves and the fruit tree is amazing. You can see all the details in the leaves.

Its INSANE when you think that this phone is only a prerelease model and not the final thing.

Samsung has always equaled innovations and this just proves that even more.

Samsung has done a good job here bringing real camera functionality to a cell phone. My only real question is why 12M/pixels? Seems overkill for a hand-held device and only useful when the phone can be firmly fixed in position; the pixel count appears to be a marketing decision as opposed to an engineering one.

Reading the review and some of the previous comments, GSMArena.com will need to upgrade the information it provides for devices like the W880. Not only will we need spcs beyond pixel count and optical and digital zoom, GSMArena might consider investing in a Macbeth Color Checker chart and MTF chart as a basis of image quality comparisons.

Yah, what is lacking is smart OS. We need to install games, preferred GPS software and preferred browser.

                          Nevertheless, this is a monster.

Oh… my dream gadget is getting closer…

Could we please have real use video instead of showing us still flowers under perfect sunlight? How does it behave with low light, at night, with fluorescent light? Is panning correct or does the compression make the video look horrible as in most phone videos? I am disappointed by the many videos posted, not giving any hint of the quality (or lack of) of the phone. If they had only posted one video, ok. But here we have one dedicated page on video, with 4 examples. Come on!
