Anonymous, 17 Nov 2009Adding full Flash Support to Opera Mobile is easy. You real... more"Adding full Flash Support to Opera Mobile is easy. You really should remove the missing Flash support as a disadvantage, because it's not missing but just not activated.
The camera is no disappointment either. It's as good as other smartphones and this is all we could expect."
so is it in a plug- in? where can i get it?
my TD2 is sorely missing flash support,
and forget IE8 for that- they are about as useful as a set of udders on a bull. i am yet to get a video to load without telling me that i need to upgrade my flash plug-in

Excelent review, very well written and documented. I like how you guys blend the text with the youtube videos, so there is no shortage of ways to form an opinion about the handset.
I look forward to more reviews written as pasionately as this one and several from this month. Keep up the good work!!!

First of all, HTC HD2 can now be considered as the REAL contender for the iPhone. In terms of software, it is well designed and intuitive.
But looking at the outside of HD2 itself, I might say that it is really not as attractive/appealing as the iPhone! It kinda feels like it is a very large, bulky and non-smartphone device in your hand. Edges aren't rounded off very well. Plus the display itself is not virtually frameless. By this I mean a phone with this size must actually have a ultra thin frame around the 4.3" display. This is not the case and with its huge size it's not making itself a real attractive phone.
Actually, a real high-end phone must be "equipped" with both inventive softwares and attractive outer look. Software alone can not assure you great market success. For an great example, take a look at HTC Touch PRO2! IMO, HTC Hero (not the sprint version) has also failed in terms of hardware (due to its chin).
These all are just my opions and should not be considered as an offense to anything or anybody!

Wow! I'm tempted by how this handset looks, especially in demo videos, and some of it's features are outstanding.
But the WinMo O/S and lack of built in DivX support put me off - and fact that the CoPilot Live8 software can only be saved to the phone's memory is quite an issue which HTC need to address.
I was thinking of getting a HD2 - but, apart from the larger capacitive screen and a dual-LED flash, does it offer anything that the HTC Hero doesn't already offer?

"Main disadvantages" is quite objective. Still a very, very good handset. I am eagerly awaiting the Milestone review...

It's a great phone, but still is not perfect. It can record just VGA videos, and audio quality doesn't improve from Touch HD. And there is only 2GB microSD card in the package.

Actually, the Snapdragon platform can play 720p videos, given that they're of a low enough bitrate.
(Though it's a bit useless, considering there's no way to output them to an HD screen)
And the OmniaHD can play HD videos because Samsung have added an HD decoder to the OMAP3 platform, this has nothing to do with CPU/GPU/DSP power. (All of which the Snapdragon completely destroys the OMAP3 platform in)

People should seriously stop bitching about the HD prefix. Its just a naming convention and should not be taken literally. Does the LG Icecream taste like an icy treat? Does the Diamond 2 look like a gemstone? Bottom line is, if you are interested in this phone, you should also have enough knowledge to know what the specs are to prevent you from getting hoodwinked by the name.

@GSMArena
The Snapdragon CPU isn't powerful enough to handle HD video recording.
The only phones with this feature (SS Omnia HD and SE Kurara) both have the OMAP3 platform.
Remember: CPU clock speed isn't everything!

I think it's hightime for HTC to give more focus on cam module that they were using. It's not about OS/software anymore.

xoory, 18 Nov 2009I hate when the writer says: "If only we had that kind of h... moreYou are right..
I've seen & borrowed this phone for a while,it's not comfortable in one hand using, way too big compared to my 3Gs.
As for the multi touch it is responsive enough but still behind iPhone--Not slightly behind like the review said--User interface of winmo is always the problem, and i still find it in HD2,that's one of the main reason why i don't ever want to use winmo-Os smartphones anymore.
I am using 3Gs not because of RAM or bigger megapixel camera phone,i choose 3Gs because of the user friendliness that i've never found from any major brands that's been around longer than Apple, yet none of them
made evolution UI like iPhone who merely in this business for a little while.

The reviewers comment about the iPhone not being a serious contender had this device come out 2 years ago is ridiculous and negates the relevance and integrity of the review. The HD2 is a great option for a business user who is required to use a WM device, but it's not the best consumer option available.
As far as WM goes, the HD2 coins the phrase 'lipstick on a pig' ;)
