1 December 2009
Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 is one of the hottest names in the industry and it's not even released yet. Santa won't be able to get us one for Christmas but next year holds a serious promise for us geeks. N93,N70t L03, 02 Dec 200965k color = no buy no radio = no buy no dual sim = no buy... moreActually the X10 is able to achieve more than 65k, the problem lies in the android donut. Eventhough its not yet confirm on the specs, the capacitive screen of X10 is able to achieve higher, most likely between 256k or 16m but the android donut used for this is only able to achieve 65k due to some issues. Hopefully if it does get android eclair upgrade, it should be able depict higher. We will see when it launches tho next year. Plus, 65k screen does not differ much compare to 256k but alot in 16m (color depth) except in close up pictures or videos especially in transition cos its very hard to detect such difference with the human eye in a normal homescreen and day to day application (16bit - 18bit -24bit). On the upside, a 65k screen takes lesser time to process compare to 16m screen thus more user friendly which for me is more important as main reason to buy a smartphone is fluidity of using it. Well its just my opinion. Cheers

As an X1 owner, I've been excited about this phone since first announced.

I certainly wasn't going to go near the X2, as after playing around on my girlfriend's HTC Hero (running 1.6 'donut'), I'm sold on Android for sure (as much as I am fed up with WinMo).

What is concerning is that the upgrade issue (Snapdragon processor not being currently compatible with Android 2.0 'éclair'). Of course there is still plenty of time (or not?) for SE / Snapdragon to resolve & announce before go-live (even if released with 1.6 with the guarantee of an upgrade). It’s not that there’s any problems with Donut, but as an X1 owner, I still haven’t fully forgiven SE for cutting all ties with the X1 after less than 12months of buying. No WinMo 6.5 or any other phone updates (i.e. Panels), as it was not cost effective for them (of course, they were focused on X2 / X10). I know the X10 will be a great phone on release, but I do wonder for how long will it receive support / upgrades (if any)!

I’m not sure why so many appear to be upset about lack of radio – as with any phone you need a headset attached (as an antenna), yet you can by SE headphone with the radio built in. Also I’m sure they’ll be android apps for radio lovers.

The lack of dual touch support is very surprising and disappointing! I’m confused by this, as it’s a capacitive screen, with android 1.6 – which I though was the combine ingredients for exactly dual touch (although I hope someone can correct me / explain). In this day & age, surely this is an essential addition? Can this (software issue?) be upgraded (i.e. Android 2.0)?

Digital compass (like 3Gs / Hero)?

N93,N70t L03, 02 Dec 200965k color = no buy no radio = no buy no dual sim = no buy... moreWhy would you buy this phone is you can buy the HTC Tattoo(It has everything the XPERIA X10 will have, plus an FM radio) which is already available in stores, and is affordable. The XPERIA X10 if SE's history is anything to go by, will only be available 3rd quarter of 2010, cost an arm and a leg, and it will have some type software problem.

Surely this is a phone that's about a 6months too late for SE but at least they're starting to pull their finger out. Previous SE smartphone models have had the disastrous WinMo OS and all other releases are just W800i but in a different shape. If this was released in August 09 would have gone back to SE but too late now, am more than happy to stay with HTC handsets.

                  65k color = no buy
                  no radio = no buy
no dual sim = no buy
no slider keypad = no buy
no stylus input = no buy

the truth is: the reason you will not buy this phone is you're not smart enough to own this phone. And maybe your money is not enough too.

this could be the greatest peace of gadget technology in the world. timescape and mediascape is a perfect pointing out of SE's main virtues: it's multi media quality.
no htc and regular win mo, symbian or android platforms can cope with that.
please god make them make it fast, trouble free and reliable at last and released with a good marketing and customer care.
in that case it should finally swipe the iphone

I heard Andriod doesn't support FM yet. However Sony Ericsson is providing an alternative of FM with X10. It is not internally build but it is with the device. So you can say X10 is coming with an external FM solution for Radio lovers. :)

I merely expressed my opinion. I am sorry if I have offended you. But I still wonder why some Smartphones, and this includes the IPhone and BlackBerry do not include an FM radio on their devices? I never received a satisfactory answer for this question before.

Android is "not plagued by the Windows Mobile legacy"? Like 65k color limit? Last time I checked it was, actually.
Or did you mean "legacy" as in "the amount of existing applications for all versions of the OS"? Yeah, Android is not plagued with insane amounts of apps of all kinds, colors and smells.
I liked the pictures, though :)
