Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 mini preview: First look

05 March 2010
Mini is the John Smith of names in mobile phones these days. All makers in the Big Five are keen to have a diminutive version of a popular handset but if there is one to be the definitive repack, it would be the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 mini...

It says it has 16million colours. Is this true? As I thought Android 1.6 cannot display that?

Non replaceable battery???? Li - Pol with just 150 recharge cycles in addition? Sounds like a slap in the face of consumers.... How crude ... it would be a nice phone otherwise

Connie, 10 Mar 2010There are two things cell phone manufacturers still do, and... moreX10 mini fully supports 3.5mm audio plugs although it has three pins for extended functionality like media controls.

It is also possible to change the input method to a on-screen QWERTY and it works pretty well on the phone. It should even be possible to change to to the standard Android "home screen" on this device.

This x10 mini phone is a small but smart near-PDA in a compact package. It can deliver most things to most people, but you won't be able to appreciate the phone fully during your first few couple of days of ownership.

Anonymous, 08 Mar 2010Wish this had a capacitive friendly stylus with good handwr... morethere is a stylus that works on capacitive touchscreens (and trackpads of most laptops) look for the pogo stylus. sadly that wont change the missing features this phone has.

I just hope se dies for releasing such an average, entry-level specced phone at such a high price. I prefer my 5530 over this, despite the capacitative screen and 5mpix, becasue the screen is tiny and low res.

Damn there are some crazy comments out there..! Why do people comment with no thought to anyone else in the market..Do you think the avearge 21 -25 year old female is not going to buy this because its a QVGA screen!? Or that it might not support some Google apps?!
Look at the beauty in this phone.. put it on a shelf in a store.. and there is nothing else like it . This website is ahead of the curve in regards to specifications and technology.. if you walk into a Phones4u store for example.. you average customer will pick this up and buy it because its cute.. they wont ask what OS its running.

Good job SE.. X10 mini and mini pro are superb examples of addressing big gaps in the touchscreen market.

Really love the look of the mini pro!! I especially love that it has the QWERTY keyboard but is still SMALL!!! Not everyone loves HUGE phones...yuck!!

There are two things cell phone manufacturers still do, and I cannot understand why. One is sometimes making phones without 3.5mm audio jacks and the other is touch screen phones with no option of a qwerty keyboard. Tex-ting is the second most important function on a phone and I think even if you have to use a stylus a qwerty keyboard is always better than t9.

I like this phone inspite of SE's adamant persistence of proprietary headphone connector (can't call it a jack). There's a lot of appeal in mini phones; not every likes to carry around a paddle.

It is possible to customise the four corners in the idle screen as you like. You can put any app in any corner.
