Samsung I9000 Galaxy S preview: First Look

13 April 2010
Competition is certainly one of the things that make the Android OS so much fun. There are already several manufacturers involved in the Google OS game and each of them has already released a flagship that aims at the peak of the...

This flash thing is generating too much heat over here in this thread!

Talking about myself...
I only DESIRE ... I don't REQUIRE there's a flash with GalaxyS IMO!

We just can not overlook for flash, the other awesome specs that this device offers (4" + SAMOLed ... I really like reading e-books over such huge screens, not to mention the divx movies). I can survive without the flash if it comes to night-time recordings. I know HD recordings may result in somehow dull frames in night but hey!! night-mode controls do decent job, if not perfect, in this regard!

Still, I wish the final unit includes this lil' piece of hardware to satisfy the needs for those who require it desparately!

Good Job Samsung ! Keep it up !

[deleted post]Even without using the flash on my 2-year old Samsung phone the camera is better than any HTC camera with flash I have compared it against. I'm not a Samsung fan, this was my first Samsung phone, but the positive experience with the camera is one reason why I'm looking at Samsung again, not HTC. And if Galaxy S gets a flash after all, as some websites suggest, then even better!

I was going to get SE X10 because SE make great phone cameras and finally they caught up with the rest of the world and diversified away from the inflexible dinosaur that is Symbian, but unfortunately the keyboard got poor reviews, which is a no-go since I text a lot.

[deleted post]No offense, but what you're saying is bullshit. The quality of a camera doesn't depend on if it has a flash or not.Besides, the cameras of Samsu ng devices are way better than that of HTC's.

Your "arguments" are just bashing.Didn't you read the posting rules?
I'm not a Samsung Fanboy,I have rather been a SE Fanboy until they disappointed me with the outdated X10.But every reasonable Person must admit, that the Galaxy S ist THE phone with the most impressive specs so far (yes, despite not having a useless flash and despite Samsung's bad support).

[deleted post]I use camera flash in like 5% of my photos and videos. Galaxy S outshines the X10 in many ways. Don´t get me wrong I am a SE fan and if they came up with something better than Galaxy S, I´d go for it.

[deleted post]Did you check se-nse? There will be no multi-touch in X10. Does it mean that people who bought the X10 are stupid and that SE hates their fans? Lol

Best camera on windows mobile= SE X2

Best camera on Andriod mobile= SE X10

Best camera on symbian mobile= SE Satio

Best HD recording on a mobile handset = SE Vivaz

Worst Camera + No flash = Samsung Galaxy S

p.s: This comparison is regarding the phones cameras and it has nothing to do with the features and the overall specs of the phones.

              SE= make.believe

SE 2010 is right. what is the use of hd video recording if there is no flash. All shots and videos taken at night will be dull. I would prefer the desire with a more useful camera even if the quality isn't that great. A big shame on Samsung.

Noman, 22 Apr 2010That colour scheme for the UI looks like vomit! At least you can change the colour if you don't like the green. Try doing that on the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, oh wait you can't

This preview is way too short and undetailed.

Makes me wish Samsung sent this to a another phone review site. I can't imagine anyone else doing a worse job...

                              FLASH!
                              (gotcha)
Nahhh, it's always interesting to view different people's opinions...
Again, trying to be the voice of reason here...

I used to be the biggest fan of SE for years, I bought the P800 (remember that!) and P900 - LOVED them! but then their designs went downhill, they didn't keep up with upcoming technologies and unfortunately now they're playing catchup with people like Samsung and HTC... Which is a shame, I remember really looking forward to the X1 it was "my phone" - but then it was delay for god knows how long and when it came out is was laggy and already out of date...
And this unfortunately continues with SE - the Satio and Vivaz being recalled, plagued by software bugs, and their latest effort X10 (and trust me, I did a lot of reading on this, because I love their screens and designs and quality of build). I considered the Vivaz, touted as SE's HD camera - but again, they don't put flash on it. I think to be honest HD videoing is going to be for daytime use (holidays, out and about) and not for evenings, but recording video in the evening is usually better than just taking a snapshot, it depends on the sensor! And considering the reviews of X10 have been luke-warm - citing the UI (something that will need X11 to change) is a bit laggy and clunky and underdeveloped - not amount of 1.6 to 2.1 or multitouch is going to change that.. which is a shame... but again a classic example of SE delaying their phone and when it comes out it's out of date...

I have to say regarding Samsung - I find their phone designs (Omnia, Jet, and now Galaxy and Wave) all a bit boring and samey - yes I know they want the same "feel" - but they are really boring, and when I first saw the Galaxy S I thought "well that's a bit sh1t, it looks just like my old Omnia, I want something NEW!!!" - and I had already decided on the Desire... not for the camera btw (because I know how rubbish HTC cameras are) but because of the screen, processor, UI, speed, etc.

BUT!!! And here's my point (a long time coming) SE 2010 says "if flash isn't important why are so many people saying they won't buy it.." - well some people won't buy it because it doesn't have a flash, my friend wants a camera phone - the camera is the most important part, so no smartphones are suitable, you'd go for a Satio or Pixon for that... BUT!!! to say that you have a "smartphone with the world's rubbish camera" when it records HD (in daylight of course) and is the first mobile to be DVIX HD 720p certified (videos on it look AMAZING) is utter rubbish... If you want to put across an argument, at least try to know what you're talking about... and be objective (don't throw your toys out of the pram...)

Equally to be balanced... the only competitor to Samsung Galaxy S is the HTC Desire (in terms of screen, etc. - the legend is just a little too small to be compared) and I think there's nothing in it - I reckon it's going to be down to personal choice (which UI you prefer) both snappy, both equally impressive... I'd say Samsung has the edge because of the AMOLED screen and HD video, but the UI doesn't look as flashy... And of course the Desire is better looking...

GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR CHOICE!!! ;)

[deleted post]Gsmarena show the things the way the really are, they don't praise and lie to satisfy samsung fans or SE fans or whatever. Unlike, mobile.review who are nothing more than scam! At least gsmarena are being honest, so you should appreciate their honesty.

And by the way gsmarena like samsung handsets and they are famous of being bias against SE and moto handsets. So I think you should at least be fair instead of being a child and accusing them for such thing because they are by your side believe me.

SE 2010 I get what you're saying but it seems there's an obsession with the beam and flash. Your giving people the wrong vibe especially when you keep on referring to their brain power and samsungs conspiracies against consumers. You need to take a break and just let things be. We should all wait for the final product and decide for ourselves what we want. End of story.
