Samsung S5620 Monte review: Well connected

14 May 2010
Affordable touch phones are all over the place so the Samsung S5620 Monte will have to win the old fashioned way – by giving more and better features. Done deal: with full-suit connectivity, the Monte aims to deliver great touch experience...

I bought this phone last week and here are my few observations.

    Pros:
Camera quality in outdoors is excellent. Smile detection and panaromic modes makes the feature really fantastic.
    Stylish look.
Touchscreen is very sensible. Ease of access to every page.
Virtual QWERTY with Opera Mini. But i like the normal T9 virtual keyboard (as i am used to that) which suggests the words as we type.
The default browser is good with rtsp support for playing videos. Had no problems in playing youtube videos.
Music player is good with the surround sound.
Excellent memory card access timings. (I had nokia s40 prior to this and i have to wait 4 to 8 seconds for each folder access in that.)
Internet accessing through EDGE is really fast. I am able to download a 4mb song in 6 to 8 mins (hope getting around 144 Kbps with Vodafone network, India).
Cheapest mobile with almost every currently available features - 3G HSDPA, UMTS, EDGE, GPRS, Bluetooth, WiFi, Touchscreen, GPS(I have not tried yet), 3.2 MP Camera, AV Recording.
Connectivity for facebook is good. Couldn't test Palringo(think some server settings error with vodafone).

    Cons:
Can't access Menu while on Call, so cant read text messages while on call, cant record on call conversations, etc.
Video recording creates false shapes when moved fastly.
Youtube, orkut, download(samsung site) widgets direct to the default browser only with the repective addresses in the address bar. Not separate applications.
Divx support is not available - cant play .avi or .mpg videos on mobile directly. Only .mp4 and .3gp supported.
Music player has no user equalizer setting.
Play via Bluetooth for Music player is missing.

In Short: Best phone for those who have an unlimited internet usage plan.

I use EDGE & other applications very frequently of this mobile & even after so much use it gives me 2days time without charging. And if we just use it normally like without using the power-hungry things e.g. gps, games, internet or movies etc. then its battery will stay upto 4 days or so :)

THANK YOU SO MUCH GSMARENA for reviewing and publishing this phone otherwise i'd have missed a beauty :)
Its a full value for money and loaded enough as not to get outdated even after a year.
                  Thanks again !

the phone looks and feels good and the camera aint so bad but thats as good as it gets, theres no qwerty keyboard, on mine there was a lag problem when texting or writing notes, the music player was average, and like all samsungs the battery is poor, i expect this phone will be a very cheap pay and go phone sometime soon

I need a cheap phone to replace my SE W610i as my 2nd line. Would this be ideal or should I go for the Nokia 6700 Slide which doesn't have the WiFi I'd love?

It’s fairly common to see clones of Apple’s products over in China, and we’ve caught sight of an iPad clone before. Now it seems that another Chinese company has taken the time and effort to come up with the APad, another iPad clone. It’s priced at $210, which is less than half the price of the iPad, which could become a deal for those who are on a tight budget. Specifications of the APad include: see it at www.blingblingtronics.com

This phone does everything right but does not have a virtual qwerty keyboard. Why this is the case just boggle my mind. But like the normal Corby I am sure it will sell well.

Well the disadvantage as mentioned about flash & youtube are not true at least in my case ;) I bought this great mobile about a week ago & its functioning without any problem. I played youtube using widget, direct from the browser, and also from opera mini 5 :)

I see in many reviews of GSM Arena pictures of the I-Phone like this review to compare with what, price, model or size? Is the I-phone a standard? I don't think so.
