Windows Phone 7 OS review: From scratch

I realize this is not a popular view here, but I suggest all of you think of this: if the iPhone could sell handsets by the boatloads with many of those same functions missing, what's stop Windows Phone 7 handsets from having a modicum of success?
And the UI is going to draw in quite a few people.
If I put up a WinPho 7 handset against my Froyo equipped Nexus One at a store with average consumers (say Best Buy), I know exactly which one most people would buy. For two reasons: simpler UI and name recognition (Windows).
And I'm obviously an Android fan.
I think Google and the OHA really have to step up their game here.

Lets give some credit to Microsoft to computerize the world, not like Apple started with limited support to outside USA and pricey.

What’s going on? Is it a trend?
Are companies focusing on mobile OS’s with more and more eyecandy but less functionality? Seriously, no BT transfer, no copy-paste, no multitasking…
They want us to buy their ‘toyphones’ as they should be called.
If this continues, they’re gonna regret in a couple of years when Indians and Chinese independent factories start to produce their own versions of ‘toyphones’ because the software won’t be difficult to replicate.

why this OS can't support many common features
now you all say symbian is out dated
but symbian support so many features just OS UI must change in symbian

I am a big Android fan but I'll give credit where credit is due.
For all the specs that WP7 is missing, the user interface and the underlying concept behind the UI is quite sound. Even when I compare it to my Nexus One.
The thing that attracted me to Android over iOS was the desktop. iOS isn't so much as smartphone OS as it is more like a featurephone OS with that giant app launcher. Android's desktop concept with widgets was so much better. WP7 takes this to a whole new level.
That said, before I'd consider switching, I'd like to see how well this concept goes down with app developers. That's the big question. Apps are main reason people get smartphones these days. If developers don't support this platform as enthusiastically as Android, there's little reason to switch.....especially because it's quite easy for somebody to essentially skin Android quite similarly to WP7...just look at the Sony Xperia UI.
The other big question is whether MS will allow tighter integration with competing cloud services. I prefer Google Search and GMail to Bing and Hotmail. However nice the UI is, I am not going to switch if the services I use aren't easily accessible.

high performance CPU and no multitasking. ok fine. but that still means bad battery life.

The fact that iPhone and iPad fanboy Stephen Fry has publicly endorsed the windows phone at its launch because it is "a joy to play with" says it all.

Remember, the update for winPhone7 will be receive by all windows phones. this is very nice. unlike android where one model receive update for froyo , and most others are not. actually most of the time with android , to get new os update you need to buy a new phones!! that is SUCKS HUGE !!
Sure thing WinPhones7 is missing some features, but they will comes for ALL Windows Phones !!!

Its all cool .. but its still an amateur .. and lacks a lot of firepower thats already available with the big boys in the game TODAY.
It is clearly too soon to be spending on a WP7 today. WP7's successes depends on how quickly this kid can grow up to play in the big leagues and I dont think it is going to be so easy if there are going to be less takers ..
But then what do I know .. people who love eye candy far outnumber those who look for functionality proved by the Iphone's successes .. So this still has a good chance to establish itself ..
the key will be speed in bringing the missing functionalities to this .. Got to wait and watch .. for now I only wanna read abt it ..

I have always relied heavily on GSMarena's reviews, but they're increasingly reading like adverts. This specific article just amazes me. The OS has glaring oversights (no bluetooth, no USB mass storage????), and yet the writer actually tries to apologise for those, and down-play other handsets' accomplishments? And we're somehow meant to be happy that copy-and-paste is coming next year? Sheesh. Seriously guys, being balanced is one thing, but being an apologetic fan-boy/girl is something completely different.
