Nokia 5250 review: Back to basics

20 October 2010
They made a promise and kept it. What can we say – nice phone this Nokia 5250, but not an N8. Yeah we know, we need to be respectful and professional. But it’s easy to be a jerk to a 100-euro smartphone. The Symbian-powered Nokia 5250 is bottom of the...

    Ooooh!!
Someone had a close look at the Sony Ericsson X10 mini when designing this phone.
Look; it has the same keys in silver at the bottom and the same backside going round the sides in different colors.
    Boooooh Nokia, just plain booooh!

Sounds like all the people commenting are bloody rich. 100 euros... i have a nokia 2630 classic dumbphone as a spare which costs 50 euros. No memory card slot, and just around 10mb internal memory. Basically, a sms and phone call only phone with a VGA camera behind. Add another 50 euros, you get bigger & touch screen, memory card slot, 2mp camera, and more. Seriously, adding so much features for just 50 euros, and you have lots and lots of stuff to complain dont you, guys? Go buy an iPhone instead then. THIS IS AN ENTRY POINT DUMBPHONE (like the C1 and C2), which is supposed to make calls and sms only, with minor pluses.

But yeah, you're all right. I remember buying the nokia 5800. All in all, it wasn't a bad phone, just a bit fat and what not. But what am i supposed to expect from a company that has just released it's first touchscreen phone. Anyway, then i see this phone, all i see is a phone with specs similar to the 5800, maybe slightly slimmer and missing 3G.

Is Nokia improving in the market? Any statistics would be rather interesting. One thing i know is that my next phone is going to be an Android phone.

360x640 on a 2.8 inch.. the dpi is going to be crazy! ironically the e series flagship only managed same resolution on 4 inch screen.

The screen quality is bad because it's made in China. I've had 2 identical Nokia phones - one made in China and the other made in Mexico. The made in Mexico's screen quality wins hands down (better color saturation, brightness, black levels, and white levels).

Good example of why quantity generally harms quality.

                        No 3G? Nor Wifi?

Are they planning to give this free with pre paid plans on poor countries?

                          what's the differences between this 5250 and Nokia 5233 / 5228 ?
                          the spec is very similar.

btw, here in my country, the price is in the same range with SE Xperia X8 and Samsung Galaxy 5. and those two has better specs (3G, Wifi, GPS, etc). so i guess most people will go for the androids instead...

I'm with most others: this just seems like kinda a waste. Like they feel there's an expectation to bring out a new device so something got thrown together.

Looking around at success stories like Nintendo, Apple and even Sony/SE I just don't get the strategy here. It's almost as though Nokia releases more handsets than all its competitors combined!

utterly pointless entry with the existing 5230 and the better specced and way more attractive c503 just announced. I think this is a desperation move: fire as many bullets as you can and hope one hits the target.

Tested model, compared to equaly cheap Nokia 5230, is a big looser. Small screen, no 3G and GPS take all the potential out of already outdated Symbian S60. What is the logic?

Perhaps people will buy it as a replacemnt for MP3 player.

                                    This will sell loads indeed.

But why not use a cut down version of the new Symbian?

Or are they using the N8 to beta test it?
