Nokia C3-01 Touch and Type review: The missing link

22 December 2010
Nokia seem to have the missing link in the evolution of mobile phones. The Nokia C3-01 Touch and Type is an attempt to bring the best of both worlds. A touch phone in a form factor that’s as classic as it gets. Like it or not...

i agree with many non touch screen user said, that is keypad is so easier by one hand operate where another hand holding something or doing something, what we like is practical ,for camera also need auto focus for scan document...and camera can make a zoom after each shooting to review the image clearly in hurry.

I bought this phone on February this year and in March it started giving trouble. It heated up very quickly and very hot while charging and listening to radio, the phone stalled while charging and after a 5-10 seconds i tried restarting but couldnt. Also, the customer care from is the worst because obviously they do not know anything. So if u want to waste money buy this phone.

metal casing, autofocus and all.. love it..
still waiting for Nokia to release an upgrade for the 6700 classic perhaps..
a 6700 classic with a 2.4in 16mil color screen, wi-fi, 3.5m audio jack, front facing camera, and a D1 video recording will do..
                        this phone would be perfect!!

I have had a chance to handle this phone in the many thai mobile phone shops. It has a lot more plastic in it than than the 6300,6500,6700. As such it is not a worthy sucessor. I decided to stick with my nokia 6303 as it is so much more solid.

I am really sad that Nokia seems to be abandonding the metal bodied 6 & 8 series feature phones. I'm just not a fan of plastic bodied phones. Nokia, why have you been pushing cheap plastic down your loyal consumers throats? It is an open invite to try another brand...

Just the other day a co-worker of mine returned her touch phone for a phone like this. She didn't like the touch screen. So there is a market for this....so many Nokia haters, IMO.

                              It is very late.
SE had already launched such facility 3years back, W960.

Without a D-pad most of java apps and games will not run. There should be a software emulation for D-pad and sofkeys to make this phone compatible with S40 devices. IMO, missing D-pad is big mistake of Nokia designers.

I'm pleased to see a manufacturer try something different! this maybe the way forward or just find it's own niche. Whatever happens I hope nokia and others keep innovating.
That said, I don't think I would be happy using this phone because it would need two hands to operate and thats not always easy to do.
The biggest problem I find with touch screens is you have to look at them to find the buttons! sounds crazy but you can find your way around a physical number pad by feel, touchcsreen software often changes the location of buttons on the screen for common tasks.
I would like to see this kind of Classic phone with an Optical D-Pad, good pysical number pad and a high quality normal screen. All the above would make a very easy to use phone!

Really nice phone and I especially like the built in SIP support, so I can make dirty cheap long distance calls now! and it even multitasks, receiving a SIP call while doing other tasks works out of the box. Only bad thing was that there was really low amount of SIP providers to choose from, but then I found n0kVoIP while googling and it solved that.

                                      Yep! people still buy Nokia..
i was thinking about buying this phone but then i think the price is still a bit high for me..
so i just bought a 6303 classic (not the 6303i) for the mean time, and i'm loving it! specially it's autofocus camera with powerfull led flash.
it's one of the things that i don't like about this phone is that it's not autofocus, we'll so are all of the new phones Nokia is coming out with (except N8).
6303 classis, better buy for me.. autofocus camera for less! (c3-01 about 150 Euros, 6303 about 100 Euros) by the way it's case is also made of metal!
