Nokia C3-01 Touch and Type review: The missing link

22 December 2010
Nokia seem to have the missing link in the evolution of mobile phones. The Nokia C3-01 Touch and Type is an attempt to bring the best of both worlds. A touch phone in a form factor that’s as classic as it gets. Like it or not...

Provided Nokia has used an older version of T9 for text input, in my experience the numpad is actually faster than QWERTY. The prediction on my N97 Mini is useless as it changes to accomodate my recent word choices.

Would definitely recommend this handset to anyone looking for "just a phone"

Nokia is pathetic. How many years ago Sony Ericsson released P1i or W960, devices with touchscreen and qwerty keyboard??

[deleted post]it's quite tiring to have every Nokia review be crashed by iFanatics blasting the device for either not having the same hardware as the iPhone or being a direct copy of the iPhone. When I read about Nokia product I DO NOT want to have to sift through Pro-iPhone propaganda. When I am interested in an iPhone I will goto an iPhone review. when I am interested in a nokia I goto a nokia review... and I get lambasted by a thundering heard of iSheep that are criticizing a product they will never own and have no knowledge nor wisdom to share about the product.

just got mine. still exploring it but its already a winner. i have big digits so QWERTY keypads really dont do it for me. dont like touch screen phones as well, id like something i could really mash when using SMS or dialling. this one combines best of both worlds (ok thats a bit far fetched). to those who are wondering if the flashlight icon on the * button stands for flashlight, yes it does stand for flashlight. i dont know how long you have to hold it, but it turns on the LED flash.

your icrap freezes most of its application then switches to the other,
                      you call that multitasking?!

Touch screen with a numeric keypad? Not even a qwerty? such a bad combination i think. But design is OK.

RJ11, 27 Dec 2010iCrap does not do real multitaskin.. "ehem"iPhone do smart multitasking, 90% situations freezing app is much better than leave the full app on background, because most of the apps doesn't have any background function.. But when there's apps what needs more function they can do more. Like listening internet radio background. Downloading/uploading files background, using irc on background/msn/fb chat etc. Using navigator, using skype, loading web pages on background, and more...

I hope i get samekind multitasking to my current WP7 phone, i dont want to think the whole mutitasking thing anymore, i just want to use my phone and when i do multitasking it just works without thinking that: now i'm multitasking, closing apps is history, losing battery life is history. But still can do many many multitasking situations.

marius, 26 Dec 2010i think that no multitasking is not a minus on a feature ph... moreActually iphone got multitasking, developers just need to make their apps to do multitasking, so when the iOS4 came, of course it didn't work almost any of apps. Now after half year users feel the full potential of iphone multitasking and it works GREAT, i don't want normal multitasking anymore. Very nice workd apple showing you can do things different and not taking the easy way.

and of course we need to remember iphone always been multitasking apple's own apps. Many nokia user STILL thinks iphone cant do other things while calling, it has worked couple of years :) Maybe iphone 2 did that too, i'm not sure never owned.

                                Hope Wp7 get samekind multitasking.

i think that no multitasking is not a minus on a feature phone.iphone4 was 1500euro in my country and it didnt have multitasking, only that shortcut and they advertised it as real multitasking.this one cost 150 euro so i dont see whay multitasking is a minus

Theres a lot of interesting phones in Nokia's lineup but unfortunately most of them lack autofocus. That is an obligatory for me.
