Nokia C3-01 Touch and Type review: The missing link

22 December 2010
Nokia seem to have the missing link in the evolution of mobile phones. The Nokia C3-01 Touch and Type is an attempt to bring the best of both worlds. A touch phone in a form factor that’s as classic as it gets. Like it or not...

thanks for the review. I would probably buy this or x3-02.... don't know yet.
as for the resistive touch screen it's just a plus for me because in cold seasons I do not want to take off gloves to use touch.

Ah, the usual whining from haters. No-one's forcing you to buy it.

But haters gotta hate I suppose.

This is a nice entry level handset. Classy and functional. A winner I think.

compare touch and type phones with sony ericsson P900, P990, P1, w950, w960, m600, g900, g700 & g700 business. Learn to compare mobile phones . In past there were much much better phones then this joke . Symbian is Nokias software so they didn't gave proper development of Symbian OS v9.1, UIQ 3.0 for standard use of touche screen . User friendliness was joke to nokia then they didn't recognized the touchscreen techonology and needs for it if the did back then they would still be best in os nad technology but they aren't anymore.

I've recently seen the other version of it, the X3. The resistive screen wasn't up to the modern standars in terms of responsiveness. It was quite disappointing cause i was ready to buy that phone.
So i strongly suggest anyone who is interested or excited about it to try it first and then decide.

I really like the simplicity and price cheapness/features combo of this device, it would be good as a second emergency phone, if my smartphone goes wrong or die I can use this until I buy another smartphone.

This phone looks fantastic, I'm in love already! Unfortunately I've heard that the horisontal stripes on the keypad, between keys, are quite a hindrance when typing, but even if it's true this isn't so important I guess, otherwise nice packet - wifi and all!

Eldar Murtazin comes... moreI also have been wondering about this. there was such a quantum shift in GSMarena attitude towards nokia products after the 5800 review that it's made me wonder. This is from somebody who prefers nokia phones.

I have tried the best touch screen products that money can buy and I have not liked them. Forced myself to struggle with them for 3 months; then sold them and moved on. I'm wondering that carrier driven modifications might have been one of the sources of my disatisfaction with these products.

finally I will be ordering this product within 10 days.

It's amazing to me that everyone forgot the brilliant p!i and the M600 before it that this this and so much more just a few years back, two of my favorite phones ever that just needed a better touch software and a slightly faster performance to be so good that I'd still be using them today over any other phone!

Interesting preamble. I do not agree that pure touch screen phones are inevetable. There disadvantages for the elderly and those in cold climates and those that need a device to work with a single had will prevent them from dominating the entire market.

Look at PC's : there are many more notebooks than tablet PC's

here's my ideal product: a 7-10 inch tablet that has a thin slender classic candybar phone that docks into tablet.

the phone has; a quad band GSM module in it, 12 numeric buttons + 2 yes/no buttons, & a small display (something lime a slender nokia 6230), 2.5mm headphone port, memory caerd, decent camera/camcorder embedded (5 mexipixels,WVGA 30fps)

the tablet has; Wifi, 3G, USB host port, hot swappable memory card, video call camera.

I am very enthusiastic about this phone an it seems perfectly built and very well packed with features for that price. I say this as an N97 user. If in future I wouldn't have money for expensive smartphones this would definitely be my first pick.

I noticed a flashlight sign on * button. Does a long press activate LEDs? Does it work only when on homescreen or can this shortcut be used with camera and video recording UI?
