Once one of the top three phone manufacturers, Sony Ericsson has been through some hard times, but the company underwent a painful restructuring and it found a way to make its handsets desirable again...

honestly i was about to consider this but after my experience to SE (i have the X10) they don't care about updates, i mean they can update everything, from the os, camera...etc but they don't, they want us to buy another product everytime they release new...

2.2 or 2.3 update for the X10 first, and I'll reconsider SE phones again. Totally not cool of them to abandon the phones that are less than a year old. But SE is not the only one I guess, Samsung also abandon the Galaxy, the Galaxy Portal/Lite/Spica, and the Moment.

For now I say Kudos to Nokia and HTC for providing updates to phones that are over a year old.

How is the battery life on this?
Apparently the Screen is super efficient, even more than SAMOLED.
The X10 already has decent battery life but the Screen sucks up juice like nothing so battery life should theoretically be astronomical on this thing.

This phone is lovely lookin but the video recordin doesnt look great for a 720p camera. And the specs have been done and dusted so y dont SE make it with higher specs. Nokia and SE were top dogs now they r both well behind and its a shame coz they used to be real good fones and this fone is a shame coz its stunnin lookin. I guess its about the new LG x2 or the next samsung beast just hope there fast enought to have ps2 emulator.

so my samsung galaxy s gets a quadrant score of 1750 and runs 2.2

and thank you gsmarena for explaining that it has a LCD screen, with all the drawbacks. no, nobody would pick it over a superamoled display, or even an amoled one.

One thing about those performance test... (quadrant)
I own Desire HD, and the test gives it always around 2000 point (I made one now - 1983). I must admit it works quiet fast...
I wonder how does it compare to devices which gets 1000 or even less points...

I don't get one part of your preview - you say this phone performs extremely well, buttery smooth... well on many videos of the phone on YouTube you can see the device performs not so buttery smooth. It lags, hangs, stutters... everything. But you say it's not. Maybe you have a newer version of it?

Hopefully SE will make sure this device is indeed buttery smooth by release - I really want this phone.

                      SE did it!

They couldnt get it right with the X10 and it seems like they are finally trying to make up for that. Its a solid device I might actually sell my wavr to buy this =D

                        About LED status...

"Above the display we find the LED status light, the proximity sensor and the earpiece."

Isn't that ambient light sensor? Because on the side to the right from micro-USB port there is something that pretty much ressembles LED status light? Can someone confirm?

Just to correct two misleading statements in the preview. HTC Desire HD does better than the Arc in the benchmark tests. I am running a stock ROM with a stock kernel (no overclocking) and I get 1750+ on Quadrant (the screenshot of the Arc suggests 1500+). And the camera on the DHD is not to be underestimated - it performs very well especialy with the new update (yes HTC actualy update their software!). It's as simple as turning the sharpening setting to -2.

Why did they place the jack input on the side?It will make it harder to fit in a pocket. It might even break..Bad design..
Also blaming the weater for the video/picture quality..What are you suppose to do when you're out with your friends and want to capture that moment..Sorry girls i cant take any photo's cause the unfavorable weather conditions..lol

                              Btw..
Where is the LG 2X preview?
I want to know if it has a scratch-resistant surface..
And if it has a good sound quality.

A warning to anyone considering buying future SE products, they suck at customer support. X10 Mini Pro is only 6 months old and no longer updates for it. X8 is only 3 months old at best and no more updates for it.

They release good hardware with old versions of Android, take ages to upgrade to a not so out of date version and then say... nope... no more, sorry, we have new hardware we want to concentrate on.

This is the most beautiful monster! Great job GSMArena for giving us a preview, hope there's additional preview as well on it's media player but still thanks a bunch. Good job to Sony Ericsson, they just never fail to impress me and I'm awestruck by the beauty and brains of this phone. This would be a good buy this 2011 and I can't wist of have one of this phone. Gorgeous Arc!

Nice preview but, GSMArena, you should take more pictures when reviewing the cameras. For example - macro shots, low-light shots, tests of the flash, etc. Arc has an Exmor R sensor which should perform well in low-light conditions and you should show us whether it really does so or not.

Will SE bother to provide software updates for the Arc, or will they follow their past history with delays and eventual early abandonment?

For the sake of those looking to buy the Arc, I hope for the former, but as an X10 owner I'd expect the latter.
