AnonD-3713, 15 Mar 2011I can see why people think that Symbian is getting old and ... morei dont know about others but im not bashing any1. symbian is good. iOs is good. android is good. ios is smoothest, android is most customizable. symbian is.. well all round os i guess. but i am still going with android, because: apple is way overpriced, and symbian doesnt have as many apps.
we all have our points of view, but PLEASE get back on topic, mkaayyy ? :D

Dude I noticed that your really trying to defend symbian ... moreI can see why people think that Symbian is getting old and boring, I just can't accept the fact that people bash Symbian like it's the worst OS on the market while the talk about Android like it's the most advanced OS. Yeah, Android UI is great, but it's not perfect, the Java interface is extremely demanding of CPU power and also battery, it's doesn't make it advanced, quite the opposite.
I'm not lying when I've said that most mid-range Android phones lags, take a look on GSMArena itself and you will see that I'm right about that. I got a friend with a Milestone, and even being an Android fanboy, he was impressed how responsive is my Nokia C6-01.
Nokia is planing to switch to Windows Phone because the new CEO is american AND related with Microsoft, THAT tells something. Ovi Store is pretty small compared to Android Market and iPhone Market, but it was growing faster than ever, so why switch to another OS that have no apps, have insignificant market share and from a company that is not that respected on the mobile market while they could simply work hard to improve Symbian UI? Symbian is not limited, at its core it still a very powerful OS, it only needs a complete new UI for touch operation. What is funny is that when they announced the partnership with Microsoft, they finnaly announce that they are recreating the Symbian UI, so that's the proof that it could be done, the partnership was only necessary for Microsoft and Nokia CEO interests only.

"Although the Reality display is no match for the Samsung’s SuperAMOLED, ..."
I have to say the above is just the opinion of GSMARENA. Owning both the Samsung Galaxy S and the Sony Ericsson X10, I can safely say, while the Super Amoled display on the Galaxy S produces more vivid images, its image quality is, however, no match for the LCD on the X10!
Get a similar picture on both phones and zoom in to a particular area; the superiority of the LCD display becomes evident. Even looking at the jewels in simple games as "Jewels" or "Jewel Rotation", the pixelation on the SuperAmoled display is noticeable.
Sure, viewing angles are wider on the SuperAmoled, BUT, isn't a phone a private device?

I guess you didn't keep you 5800 upda... more@diogo,
which flavour of android did you use? Symbian was a good O/s for mobiles. However it has got its limitations and over years it did not evolve significantly.
Hard truth, Symbian s60v5 has to end, just like the Symbian UIQ which did wonders.

AnonD-3713, 15 Mar 2011What do you mean by "closed"?
Slower? Seriously ... more
Dude I noticed that your really trying to defend symbian badly. I understand that you like it, but let's face it many users are just leaving this os because it's getting old and boring.
For god sakes, Nokia themselves plan to switch to wp7 for their smartphones? Doesn't this tell you something? Isn't this full prove that nokia know that symbian doesn't stand a chance and is getting less populer by the moment.
being fair is something and being blind is another thing. Please wake up my friend and stop defending something that the company it self admitted that they were wrong about.

Slower? Seriously man, your friend C7 got to have a problem, I got a C6-01 and I can guaruantee that the thing is alot smoother than most Androids on the market. Take a look at the hands-on videos at GSMArena itself of Nokia C6-01 and compare with devices like Galaxy Spica, Galaxy ACE, Motorola Defy and almost all other mid-end Android phones, most Android phones have noticeable lags on menu scrolling, home-screen swyping and sometimes even reproducing trasition effects (I don't know about your X8). Also, all theses phones I've mentioned got 800Mhz of CPU, while S^3 devices have only 680Mhz. Of course if you pick a device with QVGA resolution like a Xperia X10 mini the phone will works fine.

I know it looks much better now, but its still slower and "closed" compared to android. Even my x8 runs faster than my friends c7 and i even dont run 2.2 or 2.3 on it, just have JiT installed. Not a single power-user i know is happy with nokias os and each and every one of them jumped the android train and never looked back. Imho Nokia should have killed symbian and went WP7/android/meego or should have done a complete overhaul of it. But back on subject, this is about SE ;)

Terdroblade, 14 Mar 2011All i know is that there is no way in hell i am ever again ... moreIt's the most touch unfriendly, no one said the opposite. But it runs and is far better as a OS on its core than Android.

All i know is that there is no way in hell i am ever again buying a SE phone if they dont update the first gen of xperia androids (x10, x8, x10mini). I have a x10 and a x8 and im pissed at SE for not giving a damn about their customers. If they dont want to update their phones, fine, but than open up the bootloader so we can update them our selves.
And pls stop saying stupid things like symbian running better than android, symbian is by far the most touch unfriendly OS out there. And most of if still looks like my old s60 nokia 6600 xD

AnonD-3625, 13 Mar 2011Nokia N8 is good only for foto, not for video, especially i... moreNot good for video? What make you think that? Just compare N8 video-recording with the iPhone 4, for example, N8 got far better color fidelity, N8 not only have the best video quality, but also have incomparable stereo audio recording with high bit-rate (What's the point of a good-looking video with poor audio?), not to mention things like the special video zoom that you can Zoom in and mantain all the video quality, there's no other phone on the market that offer such feature.
Symbian sux yeah? OK, you read that in some biased website right? Give me one reason why Symbian sux.

I guess you didn't keep you 5800 updated or simply used a custom theme that slowdowns the phone. The scrolling is not fluid? Take a look then: watch?v=OK4QZAIlEtM
It's certanly more fluid than most Androids on the market...

Since Nokia S60v5 phones didn't have a GPU accelerated UI also and if it's properly updated, it works alot smoother than most Android on the market. Proof?
