Nokia E6 hands-on: First look

12 April 2011
The E6 is Nokia’s latest business offer and it has just landed in our office. It’s the company’s first smartphone running the new Symbian Anna OS out of the box. The E6 is a touch phone with a QWERTY keyboard and it even has a higher pixel density than the iPhone’s Retina display...

*sigh* GSMA has to admit that Sym^3 is a dead end.
But to be honest, it looks alright. My phone is a tool, not a toy - (I'll be getting a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 v2 for my Android tablety goodness) so assuming an in-depth review of the Anna update is positive - in particular the camera interface and browser - the N8 is looking like my next handset.

WOW!!! I really liked this. Good work Nokia. I hope it just keeps on getting better from here. Nokia's back in all seriousness.

I liked the Symbian^3 Anna update. Brings Nokia back or closer to the fight. And like GSMArena said, it has caught up with the modern tendencies. I don't think anyone should mind the Processor or the RAM as long as the phone can handle it perfectly. In this case, I think that it's way more than enough. Symbian^3 is a very light OS so it doeesn't need a heavy Processor or RAM. A lighter Processor and RAM in this case gives the Nokia E6 the awesome battery life it has. I know that the camera unit is very good. Even though it's a fixed focus, it's good. But I still hope that it was a auto-focus instead of fixed-focus. However, I don't really mind it because it's a business phone.

Keep up the good work Nokia.

Love this phone with physical call and end buttons! Screen is perfectly sized and the OS seems to be running smoothly and without lag, that's most important. 5 band 3g with wireless tethering out of the box...so awesome...so so awesome.

Ah! If this phone lives up to the expectations, it might rekindle my love for Symbian (which the Nokia N97 so bitterly took away).

You seem very sure but with no specific example but a more powerful processor and bigger screen. And since when do Blackberry have a better camera than Nokia? You made me smile :))))

Better dpi than the iphone 4s retina? idrones won't like that after Steve Jobs spent so much time brainwashing them into believing no display could have it better than his iphone 4s and even the iphone 4s was beyond the eyes capabilities.

Actually scratch that, apple slams its mighty fist and claims the e6s screen dpi count is all lies

I don't like the new "Loading circle" very much. I think they should do something more atractive, like the "instant transition effect" on iPhone, it breaks the lag feel.

They can't do things like that with WP7, so I believe that Symbian will still living for these kind of business phone.
Anyway, I want thhis update for my C6-01 asap, they could at least improve the browser performance and not only the UI, hope everything get even better on the release.

To all people commenting about the requirement for higher processor. For first higher processor speed means higher power consumption that leads to lower talk and internet time. Yes i have used all high end phone with high processor, with all the phones the maximum time I got was maximum include browsing and talk time is 3 to 4.5 hours that require charging the phone for at least 3 to 4 times in a day (24hrs). With relation to Nokia with Symbian OS you don't need higher processor even 320mhz can work but 680mhz is massive that's equivalent to 1ghz and with 256mb ram the Symbian works great and check out the talk time- you all be surprised. my self at the moment use E7 charge once a day or with maximum use of browsing, emails IM and talk i get 8 to 9 hours of battery life that's pretty good for a phone. So to all fellows there; before talking about processor think about how green are you and how many time you charge your phone. Nokia phones do everything and has more functions than android or Iphone with better battery life. THINK....

The OS does indeed make a difference. A lighter OS with a lower CPU will run faster (or at least the same) than a heavier OS with a higher CPU.

This can be the Blackberry Dakota's huge competition, considering the similar screen resolution, QWERTY bar and the OS. But there is a difference between 680Mhz and 1.2Ghz - and you can't just say the OS doesn't need it because the OS is optimized, because better CPU will make it even faster! Why 680 ALL the time, Nokia?

Nokia clearly didnt expect RIM to come back HARD like they did, the Bold Touch completely shits all over the E6, it's got a bigger screen (better for touching), better camera, twice as fast processor, 3x times more RAM, carbon fiber back cover and better yet... Nokia, really... HANG IT UP!
