Sony Ericsson XPERIA Neo review: More than a sequel

10 May 2011
It’s a sequel. Same cast and the same story but with a new lead and a new director. Shot in HD. The Sony Ericsson XPERIA Neo is to settle some unfinished business at the box office. A year stands between the Vivaz and the Neo and Android does make all the difference...

…And i quote from the 3rd page...
"As far as general performance is concerned the Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo does splendidly. It uses a Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon System-on-a-chip featuring a 1 GHz Scorpion CPU and the Adreno 205 GPU. The Gingerbread optimizations help too"

Also from 3rd page

"But it’s not synthetic benchmarks that we should focus on – the real life performance matters here and the Xperia Neo is smooth as silk. Sony Ericsson did a vastly better job this time than the Xperia X10 a year ago"

Dual-core CPU is enough to operate the device smoothly according to GSMarena and i don't see any reason to mention the dual-core CPU as main disadvantage.

Thanks SE

    MUCH better, in fact.
But I don't ever bother to reply such a blind fanboy as this guy. Sony Ericsson fanboys are scary.

SE may have distinguishable designs but are they fresh? are they inspiring? do they look expensive and sophisticated? do they look young and hippy? or is it just whimsical and too much? The arc definitely is a beauty but the neo? to even recycle vivaz design?

Simply put, phone that is pricing itself at high-end when it really belongs in the upper-mid.

I really like the specs but too pricey.

Here in Finland the sell this with a pricetag about 350 euros. Ofcourse there are some places in here it is over 400 but you can find it lower than 400 euros.

as i see it, the Neo isn't trying to be the best at anything.
That's why in my opinion is the best.

This phone is an "all arounder". You get everything you need.
Need fast cpu? i bet 1ghz single core is enough
need good camera? 8mpix photos and 720p videos are enough
need good display? you've got it.. still not the best but enough
need good build quality and nice design? here you've got it all

and the price tag of 350€ is very reasonable for an all arounder.
why buy a galaxyS2 or an oprimus 2x for 100€ more when you will barely notice any diference in performance? ..and yet you will get a sh***y build quality

                    i'm buyin one:)

                                Hi gsmArena,

you have written secondary camera for video calls but it can do video chat only. There is no option to make video call.

I just think that at this price tag there are much better phones, like Galaxy S.

Can GSMarena explain the differences in Display Test results?
In previous reviews, such as the LG NOVA trial test, Neo
                                    got

                                    0.05 68 1324 0.10 134 1295

But in this review, the result is

                                    0.19 299 1577 0.31 513 1670

Very different! Pre-production sample vs production
                                    sample?
