HTC Sensation review: Front-page stuff

10 June 2011
HTC burst right onto the dual-core scene with a phone that's set to be an Android sensation. They've gone all out with the design of that one - from screen, through camera to the powerful chipset. No cutting corners, no compromise on features. Update, 02.08.2011: Video summary of the review added...

I have had my htc sensation for 4 days. Overall I like the phone. I am however a little dissapointed with the the lag issue. I have noticed the lag several times and it does at times tick me off a little. So far this is the only real issue that I have had with the phone. Everything else works very well. I am a little concerned about memory for storage as it only has 1 gig of internal memory, even though it ships with an 8 gig sd card. My previous phone was a n97, which sports a 32 gig hard drive and has me somewhat spoiled. I have filled up all but 2 gigs on the sd card that comes with the sensation. Granted this all comes from stuff that I transferred from my n97 but still, 1 gig? Really? You would think that, since sd cards are so small, they could find a way to fit a couple of extra gigs onto the phone. I am storing my extra files onto my n97 and am thinking about buying a 32 gig card. I do like all of the features of this phone, and would feel bad about parting with it. I have heard lots of good things about the samsung gs2 and have the itch to try one. I still have about 16 days before my contract becomes permanent. I will try to resist the urge to switch, but if things get laggy.......

I have both the Sensation and the Galaxys s2.
Say what you will (and anyone who spends a week with both phones can certify), the Sensation is a beautiful phone. However, in terms of pure speed ans responsiveness, the GS2 can´t be beat (and by a long margin). I don´t really care about Quadrant or Linpack scores...just real life usage. You can throw whatever app, video or processor intensive task, the GS2 does it all. The Sensation lags way behind (I found it not much different from the Incredible S). Beatiful, well put-together, excellent build, but no competition in raw power really.
Do use a GS2 for a week with your usual settings, apps, whatever...you´ll see what I mean...
BTW...I use MoboPlayer to watch videos (srt oblige...)and there´s a HUGE difference in resolution (in favour of the GS2, which is weird...). Maybe the app does not support qHD displays...

I done A LOT of comparisons, reading reviews ect, for .4 months. My upgrade was due in Feb, but I wanted to wait on a "superphone." lol. I was hyped up for the sensation as it would be a MASSIVE step up from my 2 year old htc hero! I just love sense. Now I was torn between this and the sgs2 as they are going head to head! In the end I went for the sgs2 after reading the comparisons! I just think it looks like the best phone oout just now and the chipset is far more advanced so the s2 will be more future proof. I also like the usb otg feature of the sgs2. Need an adaptor but they are 3 pounds from ebay that's delivery aswell! I just hope I don't miss sense 3.0 too much. As it looks AWSOME! but already people are saying after a few weeks use it's too heavy on the system and therefore causes annoying lag. And the superior camera also on the s2 made me choose it. It's just all about what you need from your phone. I am a power user. COnstantly on the mobile web. Facebook, downloading apps ect. IF touchwiz does my head in I can always use launcher pro (which is supposed to be a great alternative) If I don't get on with my new sgs2 I will be looking to swap it lol. Good luck on whatever phone you all choose.

MuShi, 07 Jul 2011umm i wanted to buy htc sensation but dnt knw wether my cho... moreIf you are looking for the best interface and ease to use for an Android phone, then u should go for Sensation, IMHO The Sense 3.0 UI is too beautiful to miss. Sense 3.0 UI is an experience you cannot get from other phone. I myself will get this phone for its Sense UI. Sensation got it flaws, but not something regular user like me will really notice, since its very technical related. Don't be fooled by the numbers and statistics, since the technical spec are almost the same, the performance won't differ much, u wouldn't even know it if u are not looking at this article. But then, be ready for the terrible battery life if you are going for Sensation, as with other HTC android phone.
another thing, If you are into technical customizations, HTC have the biggest community since their HTC Desire, there's no arguing in that.

May I ask? Is the death grip issue in HTC Sensation affects if the phone has a protective case (jelly, etc). Does the signal will wear off if they have a covered or protected casing etc?

                            Appreciate a reply thanks

i bought this phone 2wks ago.. yeah! my only complain is battery life.. won't last for a whole day.. and the unit is heating up even on standby mode! you have to charge twice a day..
but over all it's really great phone! great camera, video, and it's fast!
don't bother about the "death grip" you won't hold your phone that way anyway.. hehe!

On death grip issue, here's another review. It shows that wi-fi signal goes zero on screen BUT in reality (using wifi analyzer) it only drops around 50% so uplaod & download rate should be ok. See for yourself:

To anyone who wants to fix lag on the Sensation:
                                    1. Toss out the Class 4 sd card the phone ships with.
                                    2. Replace it with a class 6 or higher.
                                    3. Perform a factory reset under settings > phone and sd
                                    4. Enjoy a lag free experience.
                                    5. Spread the word.

Sensation does have MHL TO HDMI output...tried it on mine and worked great..camera and video are amazing...this phone feels a lot thinner and smaller than any 4.3 inch screen phones out there..no complaints nor regrets so far...

My slight beef with the Sensation is lack of HDMI output. My TVs don't have DLNA, nor do most people's TVs, but they do mostly have HDMI. The ability to play back video easily is great, so this would be a major reason not to get the Sensation. I've also heard too many reports about an unexpected lag within the Sensation to make it my next phone sadly. Otherwise I'd prefer to get the Sensation (with HTC's good reputation), but for me it's going to be the SGII, esp with the better battery life. Close call though, depends on what you want the phone for
