22 June 2011
Today's smartphone scene is one of fierce competition and breakneck growth. Rarely though do announcements get any bigger than this. The Nokia N9 seemed forever stuck in rumorland, but never lost its grip on users' minds. The handset is rightfully enjoying as warm a reception...

The absence of a physical button for the camera makes you take more erroneous pics because you cant preview if the subject is the right focus you want.

Will it run flash content and the android apps faster than the new huawei with 1gb ram,the 1.4 ghz cpu,ice cream android and the 300 bucks price.Oh I forgot the new nokia pod will come on pink and blue and it will be amazing.....

Sails, 25 Jun 2011Agreed, if you have decent memory on phone you don't need a... moreThat's why it puzzles me when people say "Waah, not memory card Fail", when phones are nowadays more like portable hard drives anyway :)

My E71 is a fantastic phone, I was planning to upgrade to E6... but now that N9 surfaced, I suddenly feel I don't need QWERTY that much ;-)

AnonD-3575, 25 Jun 2011in my opinion, my recent 5-6 phones had a memory card slot ... moreAgreed, if you have decent memory on phone you don't need a card. I bought a 16 Gb mem card for my last phone and I never took it out.

I'll get the 64 Gb model, which is more than most people have even with mem card. Nokia phones will show up as hard drives just by plugging them to a computer, no extra software or drivers needed. Transfering even big files is a breeze.

N9 will also have the wonderful USG OTG, so if you really need space, just take that 2 Tb external drive with you and plug it in when needed ;)

Anonymous, 25 Jun 2011I am still puzzled as to why is there no microSD card slot?... morein my opinion, my recent 5-6 phones had a memory card slot
and ive never used a mem card reader to transfer data
so i dont see the use of it anymore, especially when you have 64gb

and for the lack of radio, i personally dont listen to it, but it would be nice to have it nevertheless...

looking what a great potential MeeGo can bring i think it's not wise for Nokia to move to WP7.. they should concentrate on MeeGo instead.. may the phone be with you MeeGo!

Just because the reason it's not an Android, everything else is good. Not perfect yet, until some phone can matched the GSII spec.

At least Android had its selling point, best hardware available, more game to come. I still don't see the reason to shift to MeeGo now.

Nokia, at least you reach 1Ghz cpu. Hope it won't too long before a dual-core.

Love the looks of the phone and the interface. Nokia really pulled it off, just when almost nobody expected. This phone is probably the best looking smartphone right now, and the OS has a los of nice innovating features that you can`t find on other mature operating systems. I really hope nokia will support and push meego very hard, not just in the "transition" years to the WP7, but in the long run too.
I was saving money to buy the Samsung Galaxy S2 this summer, but if the Nokia N9 will be priced right ( and i`m sure it will be considerably cheaper than the GS2) , i will really have to think hard on which one to buy.

Sails, 24 Jun 2011I am so buying this phone. This is how the interface should... moreYou don‘t know what battery performance it will have. You know that no nokia smartphone has managed to make a battery life difference. You know that it has outdated cpu and that multy core processing is more power efficient. You want to buy it just to be a nokia fan and that‘s it.Nokia also now copies apple and nobody cares even if Elop wants to be an other Jobs...chao chao and don‘t be surprised all you fans money spenders to see chinese brands to be on the first line next year....

Actually quite dissapointed this and the n950 no longer have the FM transmitter. Looks like it'll have to be the old N900 to replace my aging N97

I am so buying this phone. This is how the interface should be done, iOS and Android look so last generation now.

With N900 you could run most Debian apps and I think you could do something similar with N9 too. That means quite a lot of professional apps. With Alien Dalvik you will probably be able to run most of Android apps too.

To those people talking about faster Android devices, please consider the following:
-Android isn't all that efficient OS
-Real mobile performance isn't MHz limited, it is heat limited. Fastest phones can run at full speed for only short bursts.
-There needs to be some balance between speed and battery life. Trying to actually fully utilize that 1.2 GHz dual core will absolutely kill even best currently available phone batteries.
