huawei,htc,sony-ericsson,samsung,motorola,apple - real nightmares in terms of after-sales services,especially apple iphone crap, no points of service, no spare parts, no well trained engineers for repairing, no tools, no acumulators to replace, no lcd panels ,no software, no nothing, no support for updates and free navigation software and no free maps like nokia have. they look very appealing in the shelves of the stores,they are cheaper than nokia, but in the end any experience with a non-nokia device is a big disappoiment every time. every time i tried exotic experiences with samsung or sony ericsson i was cheated and practically i have thrown my money at the toillet. who speaks here about any samsung or sony-ericsson are just poor frustated people wich cannot buy a nokia and they hate and envy. and beware: apple is a thief of money, a gangster, never ever take an apple product. i did such a mistake with iphone 4 crap

Have you even touched the Galaxy SII or the N9 before you came up with your flawed conclusion ? The interface on galaxy sII is one of the smoothest ever (more smoother than meego demo video). And this is agreed by all major review sites.

samsung no matter wich model is out of the race. they have a practically non-existent service, it takes years to repair a samsung no matter what device because service have no basically spare parts to replace: lcd panels,acumulators,plastic shell components. to repair any samsung in any country it's a nightmare. acumulators are rubbish at samsung, cameras are very low compared to any nokia camera and price is dropping at 2nd hand at a few bucks, no matter how much it cost brand new. SO NO SAMSUNG AGAIN FOR ME.

Something like SGS II fails pretty spectacularly on all those fronts. It can't actually run those cores on full speed more than short bursts, it kills the battery and the interface still doesn't look quite as smooth and beautiful as on N9.

Nokia has the best support in the business, obviously N9 has pretty DAMN good design and hardware (1GB RAM, decent processor, probably very good camera). After all the best overall phones wins the competition. If Nokia keep developing MeeGo and provides top-nocht support and updates as usual, this phone is already one of the best out there for sure! After superior reviews of N9 all around the web one think is for sure - it has the charisma to be a best celler and a winner. Dont forget this is the first try of Nokia in this kind of smartphones (non symbian OS), I cant imagine what's next. Its up to Nokia from now on...

icon looks bit smaller than normal size and colors are also bit confusing...\after all this is nikia shittt and i wouldnt buy it..../!!!!

a promising phone from Nokia, finally! the hardware and OS are great, multi-tasking and the transition is sooo smooth, just hope that it wont eat up the battery though.. I owned an android phone (HTC Desire S, SGS II) and the battery sucks bigtime when browsing and when a lot of apps open, sigh*

I can print it for you and it's going to cost you only 100$. I think that you people with your specification requirements should wait and maybe do some comparison at your local store. Or is it too hard to make up your own mind about something with out some form of numerical evidence?

This was confirmed by Nokia employee at meego forums. It also has option to close apps (shut down the app) by swiping from top to bottom. This can be set in the settings.

well, in my opinion, if i'm going to be stuck with a microSIM, i'd choose iPhone over this particular model from Nokia.

Nowadays portable hard drives have 1-2 TB (1000-2000GB) memory and not something like 64GB, you shouldn't compare a phone's memory with a portable HDD of today

The N9 has an 8 Mega-pixel camera. Not 12 Mp.
I agree with you about the hardware button for the camera.
But I do not agree about the swipe issues you refer. But wait, I did not have the chance to test this baby :) But from the videos I saw I guess - as other paradigms in computing - it will need its time to us to use it without thinking we're using it.
I believe this N9 will have success if 3 things happen:
1) reasonable price
2) frequent updates of the MeeGo for at least 2 years (kinda of the iphones with 2 years, still updated today)
3) quality apps (some free, some paid) from some kind of an app store

but how "easy" it is to swipe back by mistake?
And how much the display eats the battery by stand by when it waiting the gesture to unlock it? And how sensitive it is... for example i have it on my surf shorts that have wery thin pockets? Or eny pants that have shin pockets enyhow...
That UI is unbeliavable. So nice and unique.
Puts that sh1tty looking Android to shame. Honestly Android really needs to work on the UI because the best hw and great community. UI is just one generation behind WP, IOS and now MeeGo.
Starts from the multitasking Google.
Design - wise they have done it right this time. Looks classy and solid. The abscence of paint to be scratched is another thing many people have expected. If they put a good image sensor, the reduced resolution to 8 instead of 12 megapixels is going to only do good to camera performance in respect to noise. The placement of LEDs is like in a real camera.

does it support chinese input? i gave up n900 for no chinese input
chinese input as in change the message to chinese language, not change whole device language into chinese...
Looks nice, but getting rid of HW buttons is not. Without a two-stage shutter button, the photo capabilities are severely limited, regardless of how "cool" the UI might seem to the typical consumer

The N9 looks great, but what's new? Really? The interface appears to be practically a cut-and-paste of Android. The specs are great, but these are also pretty common stuff now-a-days for most serious handset manufacturers (check out Samsung, Motorola, HTC, just to name a few). NFC? Well, Google has been pushing that technology for a while now. And there's, of course, the problem of developer support: one more platform out there? Come on! Yes, I know there's software you can load on top of MeeGo to run Android apps, but that's overhead, and in a portable device that's going to eat-up battery, and tax performance (who doesn't know that?) Nokia manufactures BEAUTIFUL devices, the N9 is an example, the N8 is another one, but WHY IN THE WORLD continue supporting software that is one, or more generations behind? I understand that having software platform options is good, but having STANDARDS is MUCH BETTER for everyone. It's better for consumer acceptance, and also lowers costs for manufacturers. NOKIA should have chosen Android as their standard platform (hands-down). WM7 could have been the better choice, but unfortunately, Microsoft never put enough muscle behind the mobile platforms, and let Apple and Google take over the world. Now it's too late. NOKIA should now compete head-to-head with Apple in hardware design (that's where the company is STRONG), and join forces with Google to develop the next Android software.
