Nokia E6 review: The E spirit

08 July 2011
Don't let your E71/72 smartphone read this. No, it won't have a heart attack or anything. But you don't want it suddenly feeling sad and useless. You certainly realize the E71/E72 duo is getting old and rusty. Like it or not, it's time to move on. The Nokia E6 will not...

Vijay, 23 Feb 2012I have an E72. With all its limitations and quirks, E72 has... moreVijay, you can always install RemindMe software to have even better visualisation of Missed Calls/SMS/emails on E6, using its light notifications.
Basic one (around Dpad) is way to weak compared to e72 and practicaly useless.

AnonD-42967, 20 Feb 2012IMPORTANT Need: Hello - I haven't been able to find on ANY... moreSkype on E6 does not support video calling.

I guess you can video call between two E6 devices connected in modern 3G network. There is this "number for video calls" field for every phonebook contact. I am quite sure you can't videoconference to a PC - skype or any other ip telephony software.
My advice - don't buy this phone for video calling feature :)

its great to know that good 'ol symbian is still alive and well in premium phones like the e6. In a world of Androids, iOS, dual and quad-core phones, the e6 is somewhat a sight for sore-eyes. I hope that Nokia continues to support Symbian, it still has the potential to keep up with this ever changing market.

Hello evryone. I had purchased nokia e6 about 3 months back. It's sad that once shining star of smartphone industry i.e. Symbian, is no longer able to grab the market today. Even i purchased this phone just because of the reliability and trust on durability of nokia e-series siblings. Many people try to run off the symbian based nokia phones due to the fact that nokia will gradually phase out the support for symbian in coming 4 years. Well, my take on this is, which platform attracts you against this. Now don't say it's android. You purchase an android phone today and within 2 years, ur phone won't even exist in market and 3 years down the line, ur phone might get outdated even for recieving the latest android updates. The longevity under any kind of usage that a phone like e6 would give you is unmatched. But change is the rule of time. People are more attracted towards the brightly lit vivid and glossy interface of other smartphone platforms. But as far as the intuitiveness is considered, till date i don't find anything more obvious than working on symbian. Everything is so familiar as the basic interface is unchanged even in anna/belle. Plus in symbian based devices like E6, you get out of the box support for a myriad of audio and video formats, USB OTG support and ability to use both the cameras for evrything. Please correct me if i m wrong but as far as my knowledge is concerned, evry android device lacks smthing or the other. The advertised features are great to grab the attention but goibg deep in the usage, you will find smthing or the other absent. Moreover, android based devices are battery eaters. You can't go out of your home for two days without carrying the charger, but E6 won't let you down in such case, provided you use it's capability judiciously. Well one thing where symbian will always remain behind the competition will be a limited no. of applications in store/marketplace as well as other third party developers. Well, nothing is 100% perfect, nor is anything 100% rubbish. Finally, i can safely say that E6 is a long running horse whereas other devices based on competing platforms are like cheetah, which sprints faster initially but can't run as long as the horse. Feel free to comment.

I have an E72. With all its limitations and quirks, E72 has been a good workhorse so far.

Now, I'm considering an upgrade. Of the things I'd like to know, one of the first is whether E6 has the blinking/flashing notification light, seen around the D-pad of E72, which notifies the user of missed calls, new messages, or new e-mail.

IMPORTANT Need: Hello - I haven't been able to find on ANY review online if the front facing camera on the E6 will for sure work with Skype, in terms of successfully making video calls (?). I know that Skype voice works, but that video is hit-and-miss with each phone out there, so before I take the plunge to buy this phone, can anyone confirm with me if Skype video does indeed work with the E6?

                          Thanks

Nokia E6 is nice business phone. U have 5 screens to keep ur business up t odate with excellent widgets to be downloaded from ovi. The processor is little slow when u do multitasking. Keyboard is the best. Pricing is quite decent compared to BB Bold 9900, with relatively same features. Only problem is when u take or make a call - the mute button or speaker button is automatically touched by the ear causing problems.

If Nokia managed to install a decent autofocus camera on this phone, have a HDMI-out (and i dare say, maybe Windows Mobile too) i would buy it tomorrow!

Great review. Highly informative. The e6 seems to be perfect for my needs.... except for the battery life issue. Does anyone know if that issue has been resolved? Maybe I should scour the internet for an e55? Thanks.
