Windows Phone 7.5 review: Ready, set, mango

7 October 2011
Some people are wary of buying a first generation product - and with good reason, there're always kinks to sort out. That's what Windows Phone 7.5 is here to do. The long expected Mango update finally puts iron to fabric in a bid to get rid of the said kinks...

This OS promotes its simplicity, who cares about different font colours, different tile colours etc? Things like replying with vocal recognition, linked contacts from different platforms and integration are the innovations you should focus.

The disappointing thing is lack of support for Office 2003.Now I cannot edit or save to Skydrive any of my documents.A huge own goal from MS as virtually the whole of the public sector in the Uk runs on XP/Office 2003.This will be a deal breaker for business contracts in the uk.

          Hi smartphone-experts,

I'm struggling with a question about the sync possibilities of windows phone 7.5 : I've multiple windows live sub-calenders (with different colors) on the same windows live account.Quite handy, for instance, to share a calendar with social events with my girlfriend.
I'm wondering whether all these sub-calendars (the shared ones too) sync with windows phone? That would be quite convenient!
Is syncing the different to-do-list of the different sub-calendars possible too?
          Thanks for your replies!!

Well part of what you've said is true, if we live in a fary tale story.... Wp7 makes thins a lot easier i couldn't agree more with you, but you forguet that Android is one if not the most personalizable OS around at the moment.
You will hardly get bored with an Android device, the way you can play and change things it's so attractive like no other OS can compete at the moment.
Besides you'll get stuck to Microsoft....Look how long they've took to launch an update! Almoust one year!!! Eventually things have moved on, and WP7 it's on another league where Iphone and Android belong.

WP7 lacks many apps that others can offer at the moment.
It's an ok OS if you want to be different, but thats it, it's no match against the others. Perhaps better than web OS or symbian (not difficult), but way behind....

Too little, too late. Sorry WP, most people just aren't interested. Handsets are too expensive because of the high specification required, and this is enough to put most people off a limited OS like WP.

windows mango is good still amateur though but i hope most the cons will be cleared off by the next update apollo but a small suggestion from my side 1)give the choice to the user to apply different colours for each tile 3)also how could it would if the user can change the back ground colour or if he could add some pictures and themes for back(most of the times it is black) 3)also it would be great if user is allowed to change the fonts of the text and also colour of those fonts these suggestions may sound silly though but they would make the ui more visually appealing and add more customizability to the user

Probably I missed it in the review, but still:
                            - Is there storage mode when connected to PC?
                            - Can you play Divx, mkv etc.?
                            - Is google maps working with this OS?

There are same many restrictions in WP as in iOS. It seems MS stupidly think that those restrictions make iPhone successful.
