Samsung Galaxy S II T-Mobile review: A dragon's heir

11 October 2011
The T-Mobile version of Samsung Galaxy S II is has taken a sharp departure from its GSM siblings. Compared to the original I9100, the droid has grown in size considerably. Its face has changed as well, putting it in line with the U.S. lineup of Samsung...

McArra, 11 Oct 2011My International Galaxy SII scores 917points in Vellamo, is... moreDon't know what your point is, you saying the sticks got it wrong and we are equally fast? See my comment several back about benchmarks and don't worry soo much about them they don't measure more than how fast your device can do set routines with that benchmarks code, Doesn't measure actual usage or how another apps code will be handled (the benchmark Nat run better on one device than another (like better on the one they own and use but not yours) again due to many reasons (OS version other installed apps, tweaks, etc.)

John, 12 Oct 2011It seems based on the earlier news articles that version II... moreSounds like your friend got one with issues, mind only gets barely warm when overclocked to 1.8GHz and gaming.
I get awesome reception everywhere (I live in an area where we have alot of iron which can mess with reception and yet it still rocks).

Trust me the iPhone 4s only clicks an 800MHz CPU no way it is faster, again leads me to say your friends phone is having problems.

bRain, 12 Oct 2011Because these sharks from T-Mob dont want you to get a FREE... moreOr it sucks anyways, you need headphones with good solid copper wire cause it uses them as the antenna, and if you do try ANY cellphone is going to give feedback on radio spectrum due to the cellular modem (put phone next to a computer speaker (unshielded) or a landline phone (hear it the most when searching for signal). So, kinda pointless, though if you want it root the phone and download the apk and install it in /system/app (may not work with JB due to coding but xda has it for ICS) kills me people don't try Google before assuming things.

xman, 12 Oct 2011disapointing to see the cost listed at $250; Given contract... moreLoL, if you worry about replacing in 2 years you would be good for another subsidized upgrade and get the better price anyway. Besides, have had my phone little over 2 years (or very close). STILL top notch performance and no want to upgrade (and I am an Android developer who works with the source code and builds my own ROMs from source so I have abused it quite a bit and require the best performance).

AnonD-26160, 17 Oct 2011Hey guys i got my galaxy s2 from tmobile and im getting a l... moreIt is highly subjective to even rely on benchmarks they only measure a set action over time which in no way mimics a human using the device or the specific code (some apps are slow due to poor coding so wouldn't matter how fast it was processed if written poorly). Back to you though, those high scores are from tweaks and other tricks (ie a very minimum ROM running for test just to get higher score). If you haven't rooted and studied the INNUMERABLE tweaks you will never out rank a thoroughly tweaked device. Kinda like running on stock ROM feels like walking in sand to me vs a good custom ROM like paranoid android but someone who has always used stock would probably never realise this (stupid touchwiz :-)).

I have had no issues in loud environs with either video or audio recording. Impresses me how well it picks up far away audio. If vids of the kids are soo important maybe invest in a true video camera as this is a smartphone not solely dedicated to video (or test in loud store or return it within the 2 week return after purchase window allowed by all carriers)

In this reference they are fine to call Android Droid after it is clear what they mean.

It's not a droid. The OS is Android. Droid is a branding name, I believe almost exclusively Motorola. Either way, this is not a Droid. The end.

Turn your screen down to max low brightness. Go inside a room and shut off the lights and try to look at a BLACK blank screen and you will notice bleeding, black blotches, and the backlight isn't really sticking to what reviews call "true black" Bleeding and a disturbingly wrong backlight glow plus verticle lines on the screen made me return two units to the Tmobile store. Even the one that the rep had - had screen issues. The display model had it too. Samsung please fix this issue. The T989 was compared to my i9100 in the dark. It's a big pain when watching movies.
