Sony Ericsson Xperia arc S review: S as in Sophomore

14 October 2011
Raise your hand everybody who at any point these past few months wanted an Xperia Arc. Whoa, not bad. Hardly a surprise though. Who wouldn't want it? The Arc is pure class, a daring display of skill and style. Now, you might just want...

I think the Arc is awesome, and I've seen the Arc S and it's quite amazing.
Moreover, I saw the Arc S and it costs about 15% less than I got my Arc.

Dual core is a marketing ploy at the moment. If you're maxing your 1.4 duo processors make sure the phone hooked to the power supply and that you're wearing gloves cause it's going to heat up. The Arc (S) gives the majority of users what they need, but the competition is just way better at selling on the gimmicks like front facing camera, swipe and duo core that give the perception that SE is dated. They're losing on that front. Besides I think SE just changed processors for the Arc S because the suppliers for the previous Arc really suffered after the tsunami. But they made good use out of marketing it as a new product to revive interest. So they're fighting well and once they've recovered from the effects of the Japan earthquake I think we'll see SE reclaim the market share they've lost in recent years.

video call camera ? not all of us needs it ... thats why we have a lot of phone manufacturers for you to select the phone that you want .... SE performance for single core is still comparable to other phones.. BUT the promise of SE still stays... better...more reliable...very good quality ... if they say its 1.4 ghz its 1.4 ...SE still no. 1 for me no matter what ...

Kiseki, 14 Oct 2011Arc = sudden automatic rebootsi had the problem with sudden automatic reboots as well, which was EXTREMELY annoying. however, i upgraded the system software (another pain - you have to plug it into a computer to do that) and the problem seems to have gone away. the newest software also seems somewhat more responsive. so you may want to try that!

htc sensation and samsung galaxy s2 may be more powerful android devices than se xperia arc/s but it also drains the battery way more than SE devices so theres the good and bad.for most beautiful android device it got to be the xperia brand..SE just have to focus on keeping up with the highest gadget tech and better updates for consumer then they will rise and if sony take over Ericsson then a phone call sony xperia will be so cool.

Got the IP4 which is now a year old, the Sensation XE and the Arc S in white. My go to phone is still the Arc S. Video call/front facing camera, I have had loads of phones with it but can't say I have ever used it! It is a completely useless facility to 99% of phone users and simply there just in case.SE had phones with it years ago, so go figure that one out. Dual Core? 99% of the apps in droid market are not optimised for it. So much garbage being spouted! This phone is unique, in terms of styling and design and is simply the most attractive phone on the planet currently. If you are thinking about it get it, if you don't like it, tough! Go troll elsewhere.

They don't give front camera in smartphones like Arc S and if they do they don't provide the facility to male traditional video call like Samsung which makes loyal people like us to shift to another brand. Are they kidding ? Not surprised to see their market result.

As an iPhone fan, I have to say, Sony Ericsson would be my phone of choice should I get an Android.

Lovely original design aesthetic, and solid phones, with a nice integrated feel to everything.

                                Keep it up Sony Ericsson!

Just what does an extra core actually do these days? Whoopee. When they are fully supported, THEN moan about processor speed.

"S" as in still single-core processor, but worse, STILL 512 RAM!?!? This is my worry for SonyE - here was a chance to really ramp up the specs, try and at least go toe-to-toe with the GS2 before the GS3 comes out...
The problem here is that when they do bring the Arc2 out it'll have GS2 specs and the GS3 will be out...
They need to catch up quicker, they're still a year behind...
And bottom line is that these kind of flagship handsets appeal to people who want the BEST of the BEST - and at the moment (apart from great design) it's delivering second best...
