CES 2012: Sony overview

10 January 2012
CES 2012 marks the end of Sony Ericsson and the birth of Sony as a leading smartphone maker. The first two Ericsson-free smartphones are the AT&T-bound Xperia ion and the global Xperia S (previously known as Nozomi) and they both look...

Since the announcement of this amazing Xperia S, it appeared on the Sony Ericsson France website, indicating it as soon available.
It means surely that it will be available in Europe at once.
    Kind of great news ^^
I've already noticed that the plastic seems to be all matte, I guess it's a very point and one more selling point.
I guess Sony understoos that it's really a bad idea to stick to shiny and fingerprints friendly plastics :D
With that kind of beast, their 4 screens (TV, laptop, tablet, smartphones), their ecosystem seems well build and very powerful.
    Sony rocks.

AnonD-21645, 12 Jan 2012I have to say... Sony have started the year well, but the ... moreYou want to feel you actually upgraded? Faster processor, better and brighter screen, better camera, newer OS (Yes, 2.3.7 looks completely different than the crappy Touchwiz 4.0), Playstation certified device(That alone makes me want to get the phone), free movies and songs from SEN while purchasing, front facing camera with 720P, faster updates from Sony obviously(Samsung has not even set a date for when it's S2 is going to get an update), much much much better design, Facebook inside Xperia, Timescape, and the list can go on...

I bet you won't tell the difference between a dual core 1.5 Ghz phone and a quadcore 1 Ghz phone...why? They will both run with flawlessness without any lag lol. It's not the hardware, it's the software and OEM stuff that mostly matter ;) Super AMOLED screen or not...both screens are amazing, and somehow the S-LCD is brighter :) I can guarantee you that you'll feel upgraded. I hate Samsung because somehow they convinced me that their Galaxy S2 is superior than any other android phone, and I stupidly bought it thinking it was better than my Arc...after 2 months I really wanted to return it and get an Arc S or HTC Sensation XE....

Can someone tell me if the data @ Flash Memory eMMC be wiped off when we doing hard reset or os upgrade/reinstall? Just imagine all the photos taken with nice 12MP camera been wiped off (since no ext memory) if phone spoilt.....

I think it should be the REBIRTH of Sony-branded mobile phones. They were a global brand, albeit not very successful, around the end of the 90s to the very beginning of the 00s. This was before the collaboration with Ericsson. At that point, and in my honest opinion, their phones truly suck.

                I have to say...
Sony have started the year well, but the problem is I think this is their line-up of big hitters for at least 2/3 of this year - if that's the case...

The only reason Sony 'rules' or 'won' CES - is because none of the big-hitters actually showed their phones (and I'm not sure the CES is the best place for it tbh)

The designs as many have said are pedestrian at best and the specs are basically last year's (bar the screen / camera - they match the GS2)

The problem is.. when I upgrade this year from my GS2 - I want to feel I've UPGRADED - not stayed the same!

A missed opportunity from Sony - back to blocky phones again...

                  GREAT...
I am big fan of this brand...SE that moved by omitting Ericsson name...
                  But...I saw nothing impressive...
                  nothing special different than before...
Where is Walkman and Cybershot hiding now ???
It's A Sony (if they still make Walkman and Cybershot phone)...

123, 11 Jan 2012these 3 physical buttons are always biggest fail of sony ....Sorry but you could not be more wrong the three physical buttons are one of Sony's strongest points, tactile respones always win

It does look similar to satio as a successor, but should bring back xenon for a true satio successor, i would defo love that, or bring back the cybershot brand :-)

I'm surprised to find myself saying this, but Sony won CES. They showed the best products, two great Android devices and that all new Crystal LED TV. I am confident Xperia S is my next phone!

So that means the ion won't be available for others then at&t owners?!?
As they said that xperia S is the international version of the ion am lost in that point....!!!!!
Someone try explain plz?!?... Sony explain?!?!?!

123, 11 Jan 2012these 3 physical buttons are always biggest fail of sony ....I don't think the S has physical buttons. There are 3 dots of light between the flimsy-looking-plastic-bar and the screen which I think are touch buttons, shame. I can't believe no one is showing some kind of discomfort in this. After the X10, arc, this is the best Sony can do? But anyway, people love Samsung. It's like they bought Ericsson shares but not their design team.

The Sony Xperia S has nice specs. For me everything about it is good besides the LED screen and the small battery. That will have trouble running for the whole day I suspect.
