Let me just say a couple of things for all of you here, first crystals used in LCDs were discovered in 1880's, yes you read it right 1880's and first diods on which today OLEDs are based upon were made in 1990. My point here is that OLED is still a young technology and it will be improved but for the time being in HD devices IPS is the way to go because of its 3 subpixel formation and more natural colors and higher brightness and much longer life span and low cost of manufacturing compared to OLED and much much more, so you don't have much to argue about, pick your favorite and go with it. For the time being I'm sticking to IPS LCD but who knows what will SGS III bring, but I doubt it will be much if any better than AH-IPS LCD, maybe just darker blacks but that too can be fixed in LCD using dimmed backlight or dimmed RGB backlight :D
Have a nice day gentleman!!!

Anonymous, 16 Jan 2012Wow. I happen to have been using Oled for a while. Omnia HD... moreIm not shitting on OLED, Im just stating facts based on my experience with the screen. Manufacturing wise OLED is pretty inconsistent, just look at the screen related issues on the Galaxy S2 ( all branded models and international models ), N9, PSVita , Galaxy Note, Galaxy Nexus.. just to name major devices.
Im just providing balance that OLED is not as good as you make it sound like, If I were purely after image quality then IPS is my choice hands down. This is coming from a Galaxy Note user.

People trying to say that SAMOLED is not that good certanly are envy because their phone uses LCDs. And probably never used an AMOLED before.

Anonymous, 16 Jan 2012Wow. I happen to have been using Oled for a while. Omnia HD... moreWow. That's long. I really don't think I could've said it better myself. Everyone quit hating on Oled. And ips. Ips is amazing but its gonna take more than brightness to dethrone Amoled. XD can't wait til the Super Amoled Plus HD comes. Then we can put that against an ips and a Sony screen with that bravia engine. Gonna be awesome.

OLED, 16 Jan 2012What you are mostly stating is from a market material and n... moreWow. I happen to have been using Oled for a while. Omnia HD, SGS, GS2,and much much much much much hands on with others. And of course many articles and videos.
Not fact? How is most of not fact? Especially when you confirmed half of it while trying to make it useless. Yes it users more power to display white, but is otherwise less power consuming . Unless you want everything white and only use the internet it far from defeats the purpose. Even then there is screen filter and inverted browsing.
If you are displaying true black then it is true black. Most things are not fully black so you will therefore not get the deepest black possible. IPhone is also the only phone produced by apple and saves room with a lower math lithium polymer battery which can be higher capacities at smaller sizes but instead is just smaller. Also that it would be thinner if it used Amoled. And GS2 is thinner and Droid razor is also much thinner.
Yes the bendable ability has not truly been taken advantage of yet but the chances are it may be very soon. Also not yet being utilized does not negate the fact that it is. Are you kidding? It is definitely one of the smoothest screens around. Just about any LCD would be Moe susceptible to ghosting over Amoled.
And amoleds lifetime is not that horrible. You just as much as any troll will always try that ploy but it lasts just fine and is improving vastly only to be more greatly mproved over the next few years. Burn in is not something that happens to most amoleds at all. It happens yes but nowhere near as often of a number you are gonna try and make it sound. Even my Omnia HD's screen is as good as day one.
Also to note is that some of the advantages are a little less noticeable on mobiles...though still present. As screens increase it becomes more noticeable..especially once we hit the TV range. Amoled already shines in mobile but will dominate the best LCD extremely in TV..assuming they don't mess it up...now just to wonder if Sammy or log releases the first Oled TV..aside from Sony's small one....
PS. I just said what made Amoled awesome. I never disputed the ips or its good points. In fact applauded I it for such performance and improvement. So why turn around and shit on Oled?

Not know a great deal about screens (apart from the obvious comparisons between LCD / SAMOLED)..
Are we saying that only LG will have these fancy new LCD screens? Because if so, that has to be a major factor why NOT to get a phone (look at their current software update record - positively horrendous) and battery life... and all the rest...
So really as GSMA say - the screen is only a facet of a mobile... I would have liked to see a comparison with the new SonyE bravia engine screens - how they compare now with these... and of course HTC ones...
ACTUALLY! A 'screen-off' on existing mobiles would make a very interesting article...
As it gives people a guide of what's available now and how manufacturers improve on 2012 models...

Anonymous, 15 Jan 2012Everyone is entitled to like which they like better but tha... moreWhat you are mostly stating is from a market material and not actual facts, Im sure you dont have any real experience with different OLED devices.
Sure it has better power consumption but it consumes more power when its displaying white colors this negates that whole advantage.
It does not offer trueblacks, even with SAMOLED Plus I can easily tell where the screen ends and the bezel begins, anyone who is not legally blind can also do so, but it has deep blacks I give it that.
OLED is a thinner display, true, but it really has no impact in real life the iphone4s uses a LCD but its one of the thinner handsets around, flexibility is a moot point as of now as theres nothing on it for mobile displays yet.
Response time of OLED can be 0.01ms but you van easily see ghosting and image retention.
OLED's life span is laughable honestly, in less than 6 months people already reported burn-ins and discolorations mainly from the notification bar and the AM/PM symbol.

It is a personal choice, but once you have used an OLED with its real black and amazing contrast, it is hard to go back to the grey LCD.
When SGS3 comes out with HD RGB OLED, there will be no competition at all.

What's the point of comparing a dying tech with the future (oled) ? It's like comparing flat CRT to a 1st generation LCD. Everybody knows that LCD will become absolete in a few years.

OLED, 15 Jan 2012SuperAMOLED only has 1 real advantage over IPS is that it h... moreEveryone is entitled to like which they like better but that is false. Fact is still fact. Tips LCD is amazing and has brought LCD a long way..but Amoled still has most of the advantages and that does not seem to be changing anytime soon. Yes not just deeper but true and ONLY capable of black is one of the biggest advantages, but not the only. As you saw it was way better in the sun even though the tips was a lot brighter. Amoled is also bendable, thinner, and overall less power hungry. Its contrast levels are nearly infinite. Also their response times are capable of about .01mm way beyond LCD.Still has the bes t viewing angles especially the bigger the screen gets. They also appear to be at a higher brightness than they are. It can be brought up that LCD lasts longer which is true but not like Amoled doesn't have a good lifespan and its newer and being greatly improved and in the past couple years has made amazing improvements already. Also just wait HD Amoled plus.

Anonymous, 15 Jan 2012To be honest IPS LCD better than Super Amoled in some spect... moreThat's not saying LCD is better. That has nothing to do with display types. That is a higher resolution on a extremely small screen making a much higher pixel density.

Anonymous, 15 Jan 2012i really love ture white vote for lgs ips lcdThe whites on Amoled are only just barely off. You probably wouldn't have known if you were not told. And its whites are way more white then LCDs blacks are black.

These tests are useless because i saw clip on youtube for both Samsung Skyrocket and LG Nitro display on videos and games they are the same in quality except Skyrocket is more bright and sharp.
These tests done with magnifying pictures from captured images which nobody will do such a thing.
If you don't believe me check it with yourself.

i think the first pictures with the subpixels speak volumes.
3 subpixels vs 2 subpixels...not even a real fight.
lg's screen wins the HD test.
After all it's a HD , as in high definition, test, right ? It's not a which black is blackest competition..it's high definition.

SuperAMOLED only has 1 real advantage over IPS is that it has deeper blacks, beyond that everything in IPS is superior especially screen uniformity and color reproduction.
