Nokia X2-02 review: Two in one

14 March 2012
Another dual-SIM phone by Nokia should be about as surprising as snow in Finland. And while we can understand it if you don't exactly brace yourselves for a shocker, being prepared won't hurt. The Nokia X2-02 has some real nice treats for all of you who like surprises...

G.F. Gokce, 14 Mar 2012I dont understand what has happened with the best 2mp shoot... moreTrue, I miss the days where a 3.2 megapixel Carl Zeiss beats a generic 5 megapixel camera on a smartphone hands down.

AnonD-12210, 14 Mar 2012I thnk due to cost reduction , they do not use the CMOS sen... moreIt does have a CMOS sensor. All phone cameras use CMOS sensors. CCD sensors are used only in standalone compact cameras nowadays (there used to be DSLRs with CCDs, but no longer since Sony stopped making CCDs in APS-C size). CCDs consume more power than CMOS sensors, so they are not used in phone cameras. The real reason for the poor quality of today's 2 MP phone cameras is that the sensors are even smaller than when 2 MP was not yet bottom of the barrel. Small sensors gather less light, which means poor quality due to noise (and noise reducion).

The current 2 MP camera modules also have very cheap plastic lenses, which will further degrade image quality. Decent quality 2 MP modules are no longer made, because their manufacturing costs would be the same as 3.2 or even 5 MP modules.

I dont understand what has happened with the best 2mp shooters like Sonyericsson W800 and K750 and Nokia N90. New 2mp shooters all are awful to see.....there were plenty of moderate 2mp shooters like Nokia N71, N76 and N92.

"The only downside of the X2-02 is that both its GSM radios are dual-band only - the 900/1800 bands are pretty wide spread, but they don't give you world-wide coverage.

Something to keep in mind is that if you're in a call on one SIM card, incoming calls to the second SIM will get a message that your phone is outside network, rather than getting a "busy" message."

Something is not right here, it has two GSM radio units, but both sim cards can not be active at the same time! Why?
