AnonD-39775, 12 Apr 20121- microsim is not a problem. your gsm provider will change... more1- Okay, I wasn't sure whether my operator would exchange my standard size sim for a micro one. Why should I (or any user for that matter) prepare for a nanosim? Because Apple is going to make devices with it? Other manufacturers are just supposed to follow suit?! Both microsims and nanosims were Apple's creation- not that of the GSM governing body, IIRC.
2- You're jumping the gun here. I never said anything about replacing batteries. A removable battery is not just for replacement alone. If the battery is non removable and if your phone freezes up, what would you do? Wait for the battery to get drained? If you are into custom roms and stuff, it's likely that at some point your device would do just that.
And FYI, I do not sell my mobiles just after a year's use. I used to do that, but not anymore. I'd buy something that really appeals to me and use for a couple of years or more.
3- About the expansion slot, that's a real issue. Maybe you don't want it, but you aren't the only one purchasing this phone. Other folks do use it and require it. Does it hurt anyone if a memory expansion slot was present on the One S? Sure, for 80% of the folks, the onboard 16 gigs would be enough, but what about the other 20%? Dropbox? That option's out where I live- mobile data's too slow to take advantage of that.
Maniacs like me do require the additional space. A single flac song is around 30-40mb. Just my top 10 albums are around 8-9 gigs already.
Start piling up 1080p videos, stills and movies into that thing and let's see if 16 gigs suffice or not.
You sounded like Bill Gates when he said back in the 90's that the maximum space any user would require would be 45 mb.

Someone please answer me, is it the 2GB is only for the app itself? While the data of the app is stored in the 10GB internal storage?

Nice. This kinda just confirmed that Krait provides the best DAC out of any mainstream mobile device out there.
Qualcomm is king again.

It will be fun driving on the road knowing that other people may be driving using phone navigation for which their navigation voice component has expired.
Not
Since the Xperia S has an older chipset maybe it is better to compare the One S with the Xperia P. The Xperia P is only a 4" but HTC have no new 4" and you can get the same effect by just holding the Xperia P a bit closer to you :)
They are the same number of pixels and same sized camera and both have new but different chip sets.

AnonD-12580, 12 Apr 2012So close yet so far. This would have been a perfect match f... more1- microsim is not a problem. your gsm provider will change yours for free with a microsim plus adaptor. in a short time prepare for nano sim, smaller than microsim. it is good for miniaturisation of the device.
2- in 15 years of using hundred of mobiles i have never replace ANY battery. unibody monolith design of iphone, nokia n9,x7,lumias, htc is superb because is elegant,no moving parts, very stiff and tough and will be no need to switch the battery for sure in the next 5 years for sure.isn't enough for you 5 years? in maximum 1 year you'll sell that mobile. the era of ni-mh or ni-cd battery with short life is gone since 1998. wake-up !!!
3- no microsd is a problem as long you are a maniac to put so many information. for 80% of people that amount of memory is more than enough

So close yet so far. This would have been a perfect match for my tastes. Why are manufacturers aping Apple and making stupid design decisions like removing memory expansion slots and accepting microsim?!! It's frustrating, especially when a product like this is so good in almost all aspects but a simple noob decision like this makes it a bad buy.
Apple can afford it and get away with such things- not other manufacturers like HTC and Sony. If they want to be like Apple, why don't they learn the good things from the Cupertino firm- like good design and the perfect synergy between hardware and software? Instead they put in useless stuff like microsim, non expandable memory and non-removable battery and expect people to treat them like they're the Apples in the Android kingdom.

This would have been the perfect phone for me if there hadn't been a couple of massive deal breakers.
I was really impressed by the audio quality results- finally a smartphone worthy of my Westone 4! However, without a microsd card slot, I'm limited to about 10 gigs overall. For me, that's paltry- my flac collection's huge. 25 gb of Dropbox storage isn't an alternative- data tarrifs in India is pretty stiff (especially 3G) and isn't very quick either. Not to mention the drain on the battery..
The next one would be the price and availability in India. If it's priced anything above Rs.30,000 it's not worth it. I don't think it's available here either.

I find it incredible that the list of cons does not mention the size as a con!
That is a HUGE design flaw as I will describe below.
This phone is 130.9 x 65 but is only a 4.3" phone. The reason is that the designers wanted a thin phone. There is no point in it being thin if it is very high and wide.
The phone must be large enough to fit the components inside. Mathematically volume is maximised where the three dimensions are even. Pushing one dimension to be very small makes for very small overall volume.
If the phones wall are 0.5mm thick then:
130.9 x 65 x 7.8 = 56.5 cubic centimetres of space inside
A phone just 1 millimetre thicker would only require to be 115 millimetres tall to achieve a greater volume.
115 x 65 x 8.8 = 56.9 cubic centimetres of space inside
They could have easily have made a shorter and narrower phone by making this phone 1mm thicker. I would actually be interested in the phone then.
The design of the HTC One S is incredibly unnecessarily flawed. I can't express how awful the decision to go so thin is.
Design Fail!

I use to own an HTC Desire but traded it in for XPERIA Arc because of its poor screen legibility in sunlight conditions. How does the HTC One S compare in screen legibity to HTC Desire and XPERIA Arc?

i don't agree with the phrase:"the cleanest sound output we've seen"...iphone 4s beats the one v EVERYWHERE but the stereo crosstalk (when the headphones are applied)...all the other readings are better on iphone 4s!..so i think that 4s is the best at this section! :)

have had this phone for a week. you know what, I am disappointed at the end not becuase welded battery, not because non microSD slot. It's because of stupid super AMOLED they put on it. This screen consumes most of the battery, usually 60%+. Any benefit offered by the 28nm technology is offset by this rubbish screen. So at the end the batter performance is just about the same as my Atrix and much worse than my Streak.
What are you thinking HTC, fitting such a decent processor with a more-than-a-year old screen. Just get rid of that STUPID 25GB dropbox and use that money to get us a decent screen.
Very disappointed. Cannot change now as I am stuck to a 2yr contract. Sigh

It's the most freaking awesome phone I have ever seen. Period. Phone that are well designed like Iphone4, Galaxy Nexus or HTC Sensation look like crap compared to it. If you don't believe me, just go to a shop and handle it. I bet you'll immediately buy it or will start stealing from your granny in order to collect money.
16Gb do not bother me; you have 10Gb for media and documents and 2Gb for apps. Also, you get additional 25Gb cloud based.
