Samsung I9300 Galaxy S III vs. HTC One X: Alien vs. Predator

I am due for a new phone and am keen to try something other than Apple.
I am considering one of these. I played with a One X the other day and was very impressed by the performance and experience it offers, but I think that the lack of expandable memory is a dealbreaker. I have heaps of albums and movies, and 32gb is not enough.
I think I will have to go with the SGSIII... A bit of a shame, because I like the look of the One X more. Though, I have yet to see a G3 in real life, so hopefully they're not quite as ordinary and cheap looking as the pictures and vids portray.

Benchmarks are important sure, but in all honesty do you really notice differences of milli seconds during real world usage? Perhaps some do, but I certainly don't.
The One X is blazing fast, and while you can't dispute that the SGSIII is superior when it comes to benchmarks, I doubt that when I do finally get to play with one it will make my One X look like a Symbian phone. My one X has never lagged or stuttered.
Personally, I still think that iOS is marginally superior to Android in terms of overall UI smoothness and speed, probably due to the more lightweight OS. But I've never had, nor do I think I ever will, an iPhone as I find them far too restrictive.

AnonD-54793, 14 May 2012I read thru the review and it was great... Appreciate all t... moreI have a one X and the music playback is OK for my needs via speakers, though I don't listen to a lot of music on my phone. I've heard that if you have quality headphones (particularly Beats) then the sound is quite amazing. I've only used the cheap earphones provided by HTC.
I can't comment on the SGSIII as I haven't played with one. But if GSMArena say that its audio is superior to One X, then I'd probably go with the Samsung if music playback is a deal breaker for you.
I suggest trying out a One X in the store and see if you can live with the audio performance.

Godfather, 14 May 2012HTC One X is a very impressive hand set, I am using one now... more"Rubbish" Galaxy Note? It outdoes the S2, has a longer battery capacity, and a Wacom S Pen system, kid!
If HTC makes such great smartphones, why aren't they the top manufacturer? Explain that to us more convincingly, please.

Appreciate all t... moreBeats Audio is just an EQ software as someone said...in any case, a good music source is better with better Digital-To-Analog Chip like a Wolfson DAC inside, which the SGS3 has. This is as well applicable for all Beats Audio out there which is only a marketing ploy...so no, it's not a deal-breaker.

AnonD-8685, 14 May 2012maybe, but only Apple users like iOS, and if you want an iP... moreWait wait wait..
You said "I can't wait till we see the sales for the Galaxy S 3. The One X will fall. The looks of the phone don't matter cause at the end of the day your phone will be in a case and that's a fact.".
So I said
"Please, look at iPhone sales.. does any single smartphone sell more than this glass and metal beast? Despite everyone choking on gigabytes and quadrant points.. The overpriced little bit of style from Apple has the single most dominant phone in the world. So if you need to keep telling yourself that Samsung is somehow on another level.. keep doing so but realise its not for my benefit."
So your reply is:
"maybe, but only Apple users like iOS, and if you want an iPhone you have to have iOS.
So you may not be interested in anything except Apple, but as Android has a bigger world share than iOS many people will be interested on the choice between the ICS beasts"
firstly, if you want a Samsung you have to have Android - whats your point? I thought we were talking about looks of a phone being relevant.
Secondly, why are we now suddenly talking about market share? I dont know nor care too much about exact market share numbers, but I know enough to be aware that iOS is huge and important to a lot of people. BUT WHAT DOES THIS (OR THAT) have to do with what we were talking about.
Why cant SGS3 fans admit, the whole lure of the phone they want is the fact that it has awesome results on Quadrant and other "tests".. and the looks of the phone is not that important. Its quiet ok to think this, but you really just need to accept that this is the case. Its not like anything will run better on the SGS3 than the HTC ONE X by any noticeable margin, except of-course, on synthetic benchmarks.
Looks sell everything not just phones. When you go to bar, and you want to talk to a nice lady.. which one you talk to? (marry is different - marriage is forever.. in a bar is for fun :))

HTC One X is a very impressive hand set, I am using one now as I have upgraded from Samsung GS2.
GS2 was good, but the reason I changed to HTC One X had a bit to do with the Poor Level of Customer Service provided by Samsung in Aus..
HTC One X has all the features I need and want in a hand set, except its lacking external memory, although 32gb should be enough. Also the One X actually feels like you are holding a phone in your hand u like the Samsung Galaxy range which feels like a cheap piece of plastic.
Played with the GS3, and nothing special. In fact its very over rated. HTC deserves the Number 1 handset manufacturer title..Samsung .....Fail....
1. HTC One X
2. Galaxy S3
3. Motorola Razr
4. Galaxy S2
5. Galaxy Note, if you wanna waste your $$$$ on rubbish...

I read thru the review and it was great... Appreciate all the info..
I do have a couple questions I was confused about if anyone can answer them
1. in the start it says one of the perks to the HTC is Beats Audio, but then it loses in the audio comparison. so that was really confusing. which one is better for listening to music???
2. Google music... since there is no real internal storage for music and I would move everything to Google music. do I lose sound quality streaming it from google music compared to having it on the phone with Galaxy SIII? I do have unlimited data plan so no biggie for me streaming.
3. what does Beats Audio really do?? is it a deal breaker?? obviously I am most concerned about the sound output of the phone for music.
Thanks
