Samsung I9300 Galaxy S III vs. HTC One X: Alien vs. Predator

11 May 2012
There's no battle to end all battles in this industry but there's no point either trying to reason with two deadly droids, armed with the latest technology. We have two of the season's hottest smartphones in combat mode and Android supremacy is...

The GSM Arena comparison review is very well written and was a lot of fun to read. Well done, GSM-Arena!

I only skimmed through the comments below but have already seen quite a few of "flame war" -like stuff going on.

Personally, I have been quite undecisive, whether to go for the One X or to wait for the S3. Although I knew the S3 would most probably have the edge in terms of raw performance and hardware features, I have to say that I totally fell in love with the One X. It's like a beautiful, gorgeous looking young lady that is a pleasure to put your hands on. The S3 -while being a monster spec wise - simply doesn't appeal to my senses. I just don't like its looks, period. So Iconsciously decided to go for the One X despite knowing it doesn't have an external SD memory slot and no user-replacable battery. These are trade-offs, for sure, but the overall look-and-feel of that phone easly makes up for this.
It's not just how the shape of the One X looks, it's the overall user experience that simultaneously fondles your hand and pleases your eyes. It's the unique combination of the gorgeous 720p full RGB screen that is around 50% brigher than that of the S3, alongside the superb polycarbinate material that allows for fantastic 3G reception, a slightly curved shape (just like the waistline of a lean woman) and the overall superbly fast operation powered by the Quadcore CPU. The One X doesn't beg for anything, it doesn't show of with some blown off specs, it just is the incarnation of a superb user experience. That's why I love it. The S3 might be somewhat faster, and have longer battery life, but if I want the best and sexiest user experiences a smartphone can give right now, the One X is the way to go. I am just loving it!

jackskellington, 14 May 2012Its funny how every HTC fan has to keep stating benchmarks ... more"Sure it takes better low light, but the sgs3 was all around way better. In good lighting the pictures were drastically better at first glance without zoom.
Video was far superior and in complete dark the flash is gonna do you much better"

No, they weren't. The good lighting samples meant jack because they took the photos under different conditions. They also had to zoom in to find differences in detail. You've got to be insane to think there was a big difference. In no instance with any recent P&S or smartphone have I had a problem with daylight shots. Only in poor lighting do they generally do badly. I'd again argue that video is actually superior on the One X. Clearly it doesn't show as much detail than the GS3, but again it destroys it in low light. Unfortunately the GSMArena team leaves only one sentence for that ;)

PS Both phones have a LED FLASH. They do NOT light up much of anything at all and mess up the colours on faces and such. Come on!

One thing Samsung always shines over its competitor is the underlying basic experience optimization.

                            Let me explain further

Galaxy S2 was known for its hardware (not the top of the group btw) but the key feature was hardware optimization found in the UI as well as the web browser. There was not a single phone that could duplicate the smoothness bar none.

Based on some of the browser benchmarks as well as the handson video comparisons in transitions, it looks they've done it again

Look the Sensation, it looks like the the One X! I even suspect that HTC borrowed the curving design from the Galaxy Nexus. Look at them!

And people, polycarbonate is the same meaning as plastic. It just sounds fancy but its one and the same!

For HTC One X owners, justify all you want with your purchase. The tests done of the Galaxy S3 performance over your unit will remain factual. Yes, your HTC One is prettier.

Again, how can some of you comment on the build quality and feel of the SG3 before you've ever held one??

every review so far says it's better than expected! not as good as the HTC but nowhere near cheap and tacky!

I intend to do a hands-on test before I commit.
