Samsung I9300 Galaxy S III vs. HTC One X: Alien vs. Predator

11 May 2012
There's no battle to end all battles in this industry but there's no point either trying to reason with two deadly droids, armed with the latest technology. We have two of the season's hottest smartphones in combat mode and Android supremacy is...

I hope the dismal audio output of the OneX bites HTC in the backside big time with lost sales. A phone should be built around having an amazing loudspeaker and audio processor, the main point of the phone is for voice calls after it. The loudspeaker should be LOUD and clear, and the audio processor (especially for portable music playing which is what made Apple a dominant company) is an enormous market and the little attention they'd paid to these would mean i would never consider the OneX no matter how good its other points were.

I must admit that I become a samsung fan with S1 I had mobile phones from Ericsson GA628 to nokia, motorola, nokia, samsuns... Nokia was just fine one of the best phones about 3 years ago - best smart phone from nokia was N95 - durable - almost service free... I had Samsung Omnia (windows mobile) first touch screen for me - lame phone - non user friendly but durable and with no limits.. - use to download torrents directly to my phone and watch divx xvid movies on it, even mkv 720p!!! - non of the iphone can't manage that! :) Than I saw galaxy S1 - for my opinion steel much better phone than iphone 4S! - Now it's time for new S3 (developed by samsung - hardware by samsung and made in korea, not in some chinesse foxconn - for some rise... like apple and others. Just my opinion

AnonD-54413, 12 May 2012Fantastic tech writing. Managed to balance both HTC and Sam... moreHow did you come out with the logic that the S3 is for teenagers? Oh, denial.

Excellent gaming machines, but how are they in making a decent call. I have a Note which has been disappointing with reception and clarity which is frustrating so how does these phones go. We seem now to be buying benchmarks over real world funtionality, and also there is that nagging question of Android and Google security. So can GSM Arena, or anyone, say just how secure is the Andriod operating system. That is my bigger concern, not benchmarks.

Adam, 12 May 2012Very biased, HTC screen may be brighter but it looks washed... moreyou are biased!
Both are stunning. Neck to neck.

Some people prefer design over functionality. whereas some prefer functionality over design.

                  But none has both.
I do not prefer SGS3. I go for One X. But my alternative for SGS 3 is Galaxy Note 2. Because no other phone that has the same size as that. but feels like carrying a flat brick rather than a phone.

                  hopefully, SGN 2 has 5.5" to 5.8"

A quick addendum to the post I just submitted (and is pending approval by a moderator. I'd appreciate if you could just mash it into one post.)

A more accurate way to calculate if a pixel is visible to the eye is to check the Subpixel Angular Subtense.

"The pixel density is virtually identical - 306ppi vs. 312ppi - but if you consider the subpixel density - 612 vs. 936 - the difference seems bigger. The reason for that is Super AMOLED technology uses a PenTile matrix with two - not three - subpixels per pixel." ~GsmArena

Your method for calculating subpixel density is totally flawed. See http://www.anandtech.com/show/5000/galaxy-nexus-pentile-discussion-confirmed

I took the time to calculate the actual pixel density, and subpixel density using two metrics: Sub Pixel Per Inch, and Sub Pixel Per Square Inch. http://i.imgur.com/V50QQ.png

                              Thanks for the review GSMArena.

My Dad has the HTC One X and I've used it. Now I'm a medium+ user where my Dads a light user. He takes it off charge at 5:30am and puts it backing charge at 10pm, for his ver light usage, his battery life drops from 100% to 65%, where when I've used it, I've taken it off charge at 6:30am and by 10am power has dropped from 100% to 40% so I don't even think it would last me to 3pm. With my experience on the HTC One X, I can honestly say the battery is really terrible and is not made for medium to heave users. I won't touch it now. If it had a removable battery I might like it more.

As for the Samsung Galaxy SIII the fact the battery is removeable, has a bigger battery power and beats HTC here in test, the SGSIII has won me over and I'm defiantly getting it.

                              Thanks for the review again.

                              Cheers

What actually GSMArena meant was differences between HTC and s3 actually are of no big deal , i mean its not like comparing single core and dual core where u find lot of difference in performance and "real life" fluidity.

But congrats for s3 on setting a new standard.

I think iPhone 5 or whatever coming in future doesnt cross this line because i really dont find anything what apple wants to put on next iPhone which really makes people to trash s3 for an iPhone , maybe they use something similar to Siri this time (i mean something related to software rather than hardware) but also questionable because software things can be ported to other devices easily these days.
