Nokia 808 PureView blind test: The sum of all pixels

14 June 2012
The Nokia 808 PureView has finally landed in swirling storms of hype. And of course, it wasn't given a chance to catch a breath. We didn't meet it empty-handed either. We had a finger on the shutter of some mean cameraphones and an EVIL digicam...

Very impresive result for nokia 808 in good light. Maybe you can do another set of tests, same rules, same phones and camera, but in diferent conditions:
1. Low light
2. High iso/noise
3. Night
4. Indoors
That would produce more complete test results of camera performance.

Tnanx in advance

The One X doesn't belong with the best 8MPx. It belongs to the worst 8MPx category.

Perhaps they should put it up against 3MPx phones a few years back. Maybe that will help?

To put into context 89% of the votes went to the Nokia 808 and Olympus.

The N8 was third best but a one vote system will not show this. Over saturated colours from the iPhone / Galaxy S3 was going to be next popular to the untrained eye because it "pops" out.

If we counted the votes in the order people gave from best to worst the N8 would of probably come in third.

I would say the result is a bit unfair to two of the contenders, Olympus PEN and Nokia N8 as both are a lot better when pictures are not downscaled to 8 mpix. Except for that a nice test, and nice to see how good the 808 is compared to the other 8 mpix phones in the test.

Anonymous, 18 Jun 2012Mm i think if you do that iphone & s3 will winNah the 808 with its exponentially larger back-lit censor, wide angle lens, carl zeis optics and pureview algorithms, would destroy the sgs3 and iphone 4s in low light.

I own N8 an it is impossible to take so blurred picture especially in the middle of the frame. It looks like dirt on lens, shake during shutter release or too long exposure.
I took some professional images in my life so I tested N8 under many conditions.
It works really fine. So fine, that my heavy Ds stays more often at home.
Probably when I get 808 it will stay at home even longer.
Nokia made my luggage much lighter.

As expected, the differences between the cameras are minute UNLESS you do 100% zooms which GSMArena conveniently did. Now let's see which phone comes out on top in low light ;) or heck a portrait shot which takes advantage of low aperture bokeh.

WoW. I can't believe! E is the 808! It is clearly better than F. Much sharper with greater detail. In your previous blind test you prove that N8 was probably better than a Sony compact and now this... What will happen next time? Are they aiming at FF DSLRs next? Just amazing.

PS. I hope this isn't some sponsored Nokia add and sample E is actually taken with some Canon 5D MKII rented from Photopavilion :D

the difference b/w the 808 and the rest will be even bigger, if you compare their digital zooms.. 100% no contest there.
