Nokia 808 PureView in low-light: From dusk till dawn

20 June 2012
The fact that Nokia 808 PureView is the best cameraphone money can buy is sure as shooting. This won't even pass for a pun. The 41 megapixel sensor and the tack-sharp optics deliver what no other smartphone can match and we even saw it successfully stand its ground against much heavier competition.

Anonymous, 22 Jun 2012Try to compare NOKIA 808 to samsung, iphone, sony, LG, HTC ... moreIt was already compared to all those smartphones and it beat them horribly. It ws compared to a bunch of point and shoots and also beat them horribly. What else do you expect iot to be compared to? The word cameraphone does not stop it from being able to compete with a dslr, its the technology within. And the pureview has some pretty high end tech.

I can't believe people like this still exist in this day and age, denying the facts even when its presented before them. This situation is very close to when people denied that the earth was round and not at the center of the universe as they were so caught up in their beliefs. The same thing is happening here. You people are using the word cameraphone like it some how limits the cameras prowess. It does not, and all the tests done here and on other sites prove that.

If there is one similarity between this phone and all other cams is that they all have cameras and on that ground they are all worthy of comparison. It just so happens that one of the better cams out there is now on a phone. No one is saying it wipes the floor with dslrs, but it comes pretty close in some situations and even beats some in others. Just accept the facts that are before and stop denying them like idiots.

Rover, 22 Jun 2012As expected, the Nokia 808 Pureview got smoked by the DSLR ... moreHow did it get smoked? If I recall it beat them in the first few comparisons. If anything one could say its comparable and that it beats every point and shoot.

Speaking of cameraphone part - Nokia 808 PureView is the best one ATM.

Speaking od smartphone part - Nokia Belle is a great OS. Anyone who has held and tried a Belle phone simply couldn't say one bad thing about the OS, its performance, speed, responsivness and capabilities. So, if you genuinely want to see how Belle performs, go and test a device, don't look at the specs which mean nothing by themselves.

Wow, incredible technology! Picture quality that beats a DSLR. Now imagine what this technology could do if it were implemented in a DSLR with big lenses, if it already now beats a DSLR in most circumstances with such a tiny lens.
Simply mindblowing that common people can now get DSLR+ picture quality at such a low price. And it's even pocket friendly :)

The DSLR reign is unaffected, make no mistake about that.

This review just shows Pureview's strengths, not DSLR's weaknesses.
I'm considering it for myself too, after the price tag softens a bit, say by 10-20%.

I do not know why they choose to do the comparison with the 8 megapixel PureView mode , the best result is at 5 megapixels PureView mode and it is also the default mode of the phone!

Anonymous, 22 Jun 2012What do you mean? Didn't the author already stated clear... moredslr are not meant to be used in auto mode buy a p&S instead!!!do you own a canon dslr??there other setting they failed to mention like auto lightning optimisation that shit must be turned off as it decreases quality and noise reduction must set to low or off as i always do and always shoot raw and the sharpest aperture for the 18-55 is at f4.5 @18mm

"All cameras had their ISO setting set to automatic and flash was enabled. Each of the contenders was shot in its maximum native resolution, save for the Nokia 808, which appears twice on each set of crops - once in its full-res 38MP mode and once in the 8MP PureView mode we believe will be most frequently used."

All contenders are using automatic ISO setting same for pureview.
