Motorola RAZR MAXX review: Power ranger

24 August 2012
Motorola achieved the unthinkable with the RAZR MAXX. A 9mm body, which is slim even by today's modern standards, fits a battery that dwarfs all others. With the CDMA version our all-time battery backup champion, it's now time to see how the...

I have been using this phone for 3 months now, probably few days after first launch. Still amazed with the great and solid build, the unmatched battery reserve and the elegant manly looks.
Only bad side is the delayed upgrade to ICS so i had to move between the leaks until i settled to the most stable one for me, among dozens of different regions' ROMs.
I have used S3 for a couple of days, i loved some features that are mostly software like smart stay however, i couldn't bear the huge difference in battery life I'm used to with my Razr Maxx, also, the S3 was very slippery due to poor grip on the glossy back cover, unlike the very good grip Motorola's kevlar gives. Can't deny S3 had a more lively screen too.

            Hi GSMArena,

Nice writeup on the RAZR MAXX, further i read on your blog that this phone achieved 87 hours endurance rating. That is MASSIVE and no other phone even comes close. i am sure this must be some major breakthrough in battery technology. How come Motorola has managed to keep it so quiet. Do they have a patent or something? If you have some links please post, will make very interesting reading...

GSMarena, it's about time that you stop calling the "No dedicated shutter key" a disadvantage. In effect, while pressing a hardware button, one can easily tremble the device and thus damage the photo. While gently touching the shutter on screen does not cause trembling and hence pictures are always good. Try it, you may love it.

                        Simply a good phone.

BTW I think you got something wrong:

"Oddly, there's no way to create a folder on the homescreen."

I have folders all over my homescreen? (Running ICS, no mods) Just drag and application over another one and they create cool looking circular folders, which are awesome!

Anonymous, 24 Aug 2012Where is the battery endurance test?It was published ages ago and has since served as a benchmark for any other endurance test ever made on GSM Arena. If you've seen any recent endurance test, you have already seen Maxx's (top bar on every chart).
If not, here it is http://blog.gsmarena.com/motorola-droid-razr-maxx-battery-trial-is-over-meet-our-new-champion-test/

Superb phone ruined completely ruined by stupidly large dimensions, no FM radio (nobody wants to stream radio when a hardware solution is so cheap and easy to implement) and no camera hardware button. I wish more manufacturers would realise that battery power is top of the list for many people and there's no point making a super fast phone with gugabytes of RAM if it barely lasts a day with even modest use. As for the lack of a camera button, sadly more and more Android devices are going down this stupid route forcing us all to fiddle with virtual shutter buttons on the screen when a hardware version would be infinitely better.

its not just the battery that plays a important part, its also the OS. Motorola's version of the android OS does a great job of preserving the battery which helps it.

when i workout, im usually watching/listening to videos on VEVO, even when i have 15% battery left, it last more than an hour. BTW im using the cliq 2.
