Sony Xperia T review: T-rex

24 September 2012
Back when the driving seat was shared with Ericsson, Sony was a little short of delivering a real winner in the high-end market, the company's top-range smartphones always a notch below the Galaxy S lineup and their HTC counterparts...

I cannot believe it has a non removable battery. This means the phone will automatically die, when it is 2years old. If I pay twice the price of a netbook for a phone it better have a removable battery.

Why no display measurements? (e.g. brightness, contrast, etc)? Recent GSMArena reviews really baffle me, as almost every review misses some of proper measurements (sometimes no audio quality, sometimes no display, etc).

But overall, looks like no star catcher phone. Shame, because design is great, size is perfect for me, and I had high hopes for new Sony lineup... Oh well.

Great review. Although you didn't mention NFC nowhere. Sony made pretty useful feature with their SmartTags and it should deserve it's place in this review. They are not included in retail package of yours but you can buy it for $4,99 or so online.

And you made a small mistake in Camera part: "In Normal, you pick the Scene settings manually or you can enable Scene recognition and let the Xperia S take a guess"

Other than that, it's a great review, well balanced and full of info. Keep up with the good work!

        Cheers!

A flagship with so poor viewing angles? Sony must be joking.

The price should come down soon, and it's also important to remember that benchmarks are ARTIFICIAL and that a heavyweight dual core will be superior for mos real-world usage than quad middleweight cores. Applications and the OS are just not optimised well for 4 cores, and then there are things like memory and storage bandwidth that can cause bottlenecks.

However, one thing that really grates me is things like the loudspeaker volume. Really, there is no excuse to get the basics like this wrong.

No lanyard eyelet at the bottom? Too bad, I think all other Xperias have one. Why did they have to be like iG5S3 stuff in this department...

Looks like a good phone with a few short comings...

However a 4.55" is just too small.

Galaxy NOTE 2 is the beast! :-)

It has a DIGITAL image stabilization (takes two pictures and combines them).
The Nokia lumia 920 has a OPTICAL image stabilization(the real thing, what DSLR cameras have).

Poor loudspeaker performance? It is same loudspeaker in Sony Arc?
I am very happy with my Sony Arc loudspeaker performance.
My Sony Arc loudspeaker it is much better then iPhone5 loudspeaker. Just listen.

What kind of image stabilization Xperia T uses for stills? Is it related to gyroscope as in some LG models (eg if camera movement/shake is detected image won't be captured). I know this is far from OIS in 920, but still would like to know.

                                  Cheers,

The reason why the Xperia phones didn't produce much picture quality during Quick Launch or low light situation it is because there are limited options whenever you are taking pictures. I just wish that the next update for all Xperias is to allow full modification settings on the Camera function this will improve alot. I got my XS and we need an update more function as well.

well , even the reviewer think he is too harsh . The conclusion actually indicate its the best build quality flagship currently on market .
