HTC Desire V review: A simple wish

8 October 2012
Long gone are the glory days of the Desire line - once a cradle of flagships, it now gives in to the rise of the One series. With the Wildfires all but extinguished, the Desires got the lower midrange all to themselves. But instead of clinging to a glorious past, they're now trusted to start winning over the next generation of smartphone users...

Beside..the over all performance is poor... in the steady state when i don't load any app. there is only ~ 140 MB free from the RAM which is not enough for fast performance

With the One V having that annoying messaging bug, I doubt anyone will have an enjoyable experience using this thing as a phone. The bug still exist on the latest firmware for the One V.

There will be times when the Messaging app will fail to display the contact name for each thread and in writing a new message, it will take a looooooong time before the contacts will appear. The same thing could happen when you get a call, it will appear as if you don't know the person calling you. Their number is saved on your phone and instead of their name appearing in the "call" screen, it will just be a number. It's really annoying and I'm turned off of Sense now. It's been amazing when it comes to being smart but it sucks for use as a phone. I'm not even sure how this phone will handle all that with two SIMs and an inferior processor.

Seamoon, 09 Oct 2012A great phone for me as this is my 1st Android phone... but... more4GB is the total storage, some of that is used for the OS files, and some is used for applications, and the rest (1GB) is for the user. Just get a memory card, even 16GB so cheap now, you probanly will not need 32GB on this phone since its unable to play HD videos anyway.

This kind of handset that will make hTC going down..
Lame CPU, small RAM, no front CAM, small BATTERY.
                                WELL DONE HTC

Eyeglass users, or more specifc Nearsighted people are the ones who are most picky about display resolution, since they by removing eyeglasses/contact lenses can see far more small details than people with normal vision, the higher grade nearsighted the more detail they can see. Thats why nearsighted people dont like Pentile AMOLED, for them even a HD Pentile display will be pixelated when using small fonts.

Actually they dont see better, not at the same distance, but their eyes are able to focus at shorter distances, and ofcore, as you get closer more detail will appear.

lol... This competes in the feature phone category, not mid-range. At around $300, it's also overpriced garbage.

It's not the same as the dual-sim phones of a few years back. It is really more convenient if you carry a dual-sim phone now if yiou use two carrier networks regularly, or if you travel a lot.

I just recently bought a dual-sim phone because of this convenience.

I believe the best dual-sim phone right now that is not China-specific is the Lenovo P700i, to which unfortunately I missed out on because it was just released yesterday in our country. I believe this is a much better phone than the Desire V. Although physically uglier and heavier than Desire V, it is par with the Desire V in screen specs, build quality, and OS (ICS interface sans the HTC sense of course). But most importantly, its advantages are its 1Ghz Dual-Core CPU, monster 2500mah battery, and its price -- USD$80 cheaper than the desire V.
